I am having Hybrid thoughts.... Golf GTE

Featured Replies

I've had a lease price for  a GTE on a 25k mile per year contract, £400.96 + VAT, the nearly top spec Mitsi comes in about the same.

That's Golf R money isn't it!?

Just kidding, I appreciate the 25K/year pushes the price up. I am in the same boat by the way.

VW should have had the GTE in the UK by now but it is not at our local dealer yet, so test drive is booked once the car arrives and depending on what I think the GTE could be here as soon as October this year.

I will post up some pictures and a bit of a review when I have driven it.

Here's both the Golf and Passat GTE's - some more photos available for the Golf but that's the only one for the Passat I'm afraid!

I can have a Golf R if I want one, believe me it is very tempting too but the BIK is a massive amount, the GTE is about £50 a month compared to the £450 a month for the R.  My commute will be 20 miles so I am hoping to do this just on electricity.

I've ordered the Golf GTE, delivery the 2nd of November :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Friends of ours have just bought themselves an Audi A3 e-tron.

They're very happy with it and not put a drop of petrol in yet as their commute to work is short and the car park has a free charging point.

My Hybrid thoughts have become a realisation, I ordered my Golf GTE on Thursday last week.     Looking forward to seeing the car at the end of October.

White, Xenon's and sat nav pack no other extras as this an expensive Golf!

Might find this interesting.

Thanks for the clip Richard, any car endorsed by Kryten will be ok for me I am sure.

I saw some of the early european youtube reviews and that is what got me thinking about getting a GTE, the clip above ^^ has confirmed this should be a good choice for me, especially as we move to Yorkshire on the 10th June reducing my commute from 61 miles each way to 19 miles each way.

Whilst I wait to take delivery I can keep thrashing the 116d to within an inch of its life, look out next owner.....

I've looked at one and I have to say it did seem very nice quality inside.

A good place to sit every day that's for sure.

One of the things I like about my DSG Tiguan is that there's a setting which allows me to coast when I'm not accelerating so will the regenerative charging be similar to braking in that situation?

The regenerative braking works by pressure on the accelerator pedal.

So as you let off the car starts to slow, using regenerative braking instead of the physical brakes.

Putting as much of the wasted "braking" energy into the battery as possible.

If you keep a light throttle pressure in the correct mode (Not GTE IIRC) on it will coast along using no energy at all, like an electric car does.  With the engine off.

I wonder if mine will be the quickest Hybrid on the How Fast leaderboard..

Is this a PCP?

How much of a deposit was needed for the £396 / month?

How many years did you go for?

Blimey, I thought Skoda's lead times were excessive!

Silver, the Golf is a company car, I have no idea what the cost is but I do know it is a lease that includes all servicing and tyres etc, I will try and get some figures and let you know.

Looks great in Black.

The e-tron, I guess is an more expensive Golf? That doesn't look as good.

I do like the YouTube fully charged show. Some very interesting videos and honest review of cars.

The GTE does look nice.....I hope VW dealers are more willing to do a deal for you than what Mercedes are like on the C350e.

Blimey, I thought Skoda's lead times were excessive!

Mercedes is worse at January at the moment.

This is what you wait for being done.

Base model works out on PCP as

7k down

315 a month over 36 months

10k final payment

So with the options it's going to be at least over 7k deposit.

You could back track the figures from VWs website to give you a rough idea of cost etc.

What annual mileage is that based on?

£117.56 a week minimum to drive one for 3 years and hand back. (£16.80 a day)

But then if your trips suit that type of vehicle Fuel costs can be near Zero.

And if it's a company car I image it'll be rather cheap to own for it's 2 or 3 year term.

We are three months on into hybrid ownership after replacing our 170 Superb with a standard Prius (ie non plug in) and its been a really positive experience, nowhere near the performance of the Golf of course but quicker than a lot of people think. As its the wifes car I'm glad i dont drive it every day (I am spoiled a little with my cars) , but I do find it very pleasant to drive long distances and its great on the motorway.

I can see the Golf being quite a big seller and whatever can get people into a hybrid is good imo , the amount of people that confuse hybrids and electric cars baffles me , as Kryten said in that Golf review the comments about the range being the most common one , the low emissions will certainly make it popular with company car buyers

Lets hope some of the other manufacturers raise their game a little now
