I am having Hybrid thoughts.... Golf GTE

Sorry for daft questions but does the golf come with charge cable with normal plug or does it require special socket? Also does battery and petrol motors both power front wheels only

I have two charge leads Kenny, one plugs into the proper charge posts and the other has a standard there pin plug on it, both charge the car in about four hours.

Just bought myself a Lexus CT200h. Exact same as a Prius but with Lexus luxury. Really enjoying it after 2 days. It takes some getting used to driving a hybrid to get the economy. I just need to back off the right foot to keep in EV mode. Managed briefly to get 69mpg(instant mpg ) but at the moment it's about 58ish.

I have found with my Auris hybrid that it gets better. After a month I got fed up with trying to tease extra mpg out of it, got addicted to Power Mode and enjoy it even more, with virtually the same economy !

The technology is impressive but....

The lease deals at the moment don't make much sense. The GTE being about £100 a month more expensive than a Golf R.

Would rather have the R and use the £100 saved on fuel. :)

I've read this too on the Lexus forums. Most find Eco,Normal and Sport modes to be a like in terms of mpg. It's a new toy for me so I'm trying for the EV mode all the time [emoji4] works a treat if you're doing less than 40 mph.

Bumping this thread, as I've been looking at one of these to replace my VRS in the nearish future.  ~£350 a month on lease through work, all inclusive.

My work commute is 9 miles each way, so I could do that on battery, or do one leg on battery, the other on petrol.  I'm currently paying ~£30 a week on petrol; unless I'm missing something, the Golf GTE could halve this cost?

It's looks fun too. 200bhp, about the same 0-62 as the vrs and lots of toys.

I haven't read all of this thread yet, but are people warming up to plug in hybrids yet?

Going from a mk2FL VRS with B12s, would I hate the handling of the GTE?

Well timed bump, I was quite surprised to see this on the front page again.

I was one of the posters originally who had the GTE ordered, Arnold Clark ****ed me off so much I cancelled the order and ended up with a specced up BMW 120d.

I've had that nearly two years now and on Monday I swap it for a BMW 330e, finally get a hybrid! It's actually a year old, my boss is getting the 530e and handing the 330e down to me :)

Sounds good Dave. I do like the look of the 330e.

Time to change that signature of yours then.... ;)

Oh, a timely bump from me.

I swapped the GTE for a leaf and went full EV.

However, just this week have ordered a VRS 245 to replace that.

Full circle it seems.

Lose interest in the GTE?

That is an interesting car journey, certainly :)

Interested in the logic/approach, if you care to share...

Went to GTE as lease deal through work was too good to turn down. Work has free to use charge points and I was in a field based role, so was all good.

Fortunately (or not depending how you look at it) I got some internal move/promotion, but meant it was now a purely office based role, so went from around 15k business miles a year to almost none. As it was a lease through work I hoped they adjust monthlies down to account for this, but they reckon they couldn't, could only add mileage not reduce!!

So as I had free access to charge points, and only 20 miles a day commute, I handed GTE back and took a cheap PCP from nissan on a Leaf, its only the 24kwh model, range of up to 80 miles. Done just on 15k miles in it now in almost 18 months, and its cost about £40 in total to charge. Nice Tekna model, leather, 360 camera, Bose, etc etc. Can park in most ev bays in town and get free parking and charging too.

However, The lease is up in March and I cant wait for it to go back. The main reason isn't the car or its range, its the poor charging infrastructure, the lack of repairs and support when charge points are broken or ICED (blocked by other cars)!! There's a need to have different apps or rfid cards in case you need to use a point that's ran by one of the many different companies, there's no standardisation and seemingly little investment in the installation of new points.

That may be changing in the next few years, but at the minute I'm moving back away from pure EV. Hybrids are definitely the way ahead at the minute, for me the EV experiment is too soon.

The VRS 245 deals have come at just the right time, its works out that it will actually be slightly cheaper to lease it than the Leaf, obviously not as cheap on fuel though hahaha.

Good watch, thanks.  Just confirms for me my current opinion of taking a VAG car over a Ford almost always :D

I tried a KIa Niro, and decided i like that better than a Toyota Yaris Hybrid.  There is even a Cat D one selling on Autotrader. (2,500 miles, much cheapness.)

Currently plugging in my Electric Assist pushbike is becoming a PITA and i really need to purchase a 2nd battery for that because 3 1/2 hours to fully recharge seems like for ever when waiting to continue riding it.

So a Hybrid for me i think and not a Plug in.

A hybrid Furby is still the ideal next car for swmbo.. but hybrid where the ice is just to run a generator for electric drive train, Fisker style, but it doesnt exist yet.

Whatever hope the UK has with EV infrastructure, ireland is hopelessly f**ked in reality..

Id consider the same drive system in an Octy/Superb size car for next car too, but the premium on

a ) the cost over ice equivelent

b ) the initial layout and depreciation on a new car

c ) the use i give my cars on company time, i couldnt do it to a new car..

d ) the type of drive i describe doesnt exist yet..

I cant justify spending the money..

bridge being the operative word, neither fish nor foul

Uh oh. The NHS lease scheme will get me the 2017 330e M Sport Shadow Edition for ~£355 a month.  A new option has just flashed up offering the 530e M Sport for £375.  Both prices include tax, insurance, servicing etc.

Really freaking tempted.

So the major vehicle manufacturers who might be German are getting together to get more charging stations,

that is a cartel that the UK / EU will allow.

If they get charging station, Transport Hubs, Click & Collect locations, Recycling compounds and park and rides all in one area that would be sensible and

something the UK Government and the 3 others in the UK can get behind and have up and running without dragging out the planning permission for ever.

Actually this would do me fine-if only.

Many options continue to appear.

Quite an enviable place to be as a manufacturer, provided VW and it's suppliers don't upset customers / potential customers with a lengthy delivery lead time extension . Which might ,if not careful, just be unacceptable in the dynamic hybrid marketplace.

VW should be selling loads of them. Ramping up production, selling like hot cakes.

Just have the Real World Testing done, show the amazing low Co2 g/km that drivers are putting out using these hybrids and people will be hooked,

or maybe not, but publish the results anyway.  No more of the Old EU test stuff for comparisons.

I've joined the PHEV club. Picked up my 530e M Sport on Friday :D
