Anyone own or owned Fiesta ST MP215?

Featured Replies

As per title, anyone own or owned new Fiesta ST with Mountune MP215 pack? Wondering what the owner experience is like, my son was considering one of these but his strong preference is normally VAG motors, in particular he was considering Golf Gti until he saw an offer on the Mountune Fiesta ST.

For background he had looked at 61 plate Golf Gti with 31k on clock, 3 door manual and leather interior. Marked up for 17k but of course that would be subject to discussion. Less than 400 yards away Ford dealer had unregistered Fiesta ST MP215 for 17,700. It's got him thinking.

Interested to hear others views on what their choice would be, and from owners who can shed some light on what they (new Fiesta ST) are like day to day.

Thanks.

BossFox has one at the moment

I have one and I am most certainly not a Ford fan.

It's a cracking car though, better for day to day fun than any VAG I've come across.

Suffers a slightly hard ride, which is the price you pay for the amazing handling.

Interior is a bit down on VAG too.

But show me some corners and I'm not touching the dash, I'm slipping in a downchange and grinning as it whips round corners like no front drive hatchback should.

There were a few things I was not sure of, like the looks.

But overall I have to say I've got used to it and for the money I can't think of anything else of it's age with factory warranty (remap included) I'd rather have.

I did a thread here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/313433-richards-fish-faced-ford-fiesta-st-3/

Go for an ST-3 and the spec for a small hatch that's in the Fabia class is amazing.

Heated recaros, keyless entry, auto lights and wipers, sat-nav, climate control, heated screen, bluetooth, folding mirrors etc...

Thanks Bossfox, he also comes into the category of most definitely not being a Ford fan, but the offer on this with the manufacturer approved remap and other upgrades has him thinking seriously about his next move. He hasn't had a test drive yet, but I suspect when he does he'll have his mind made up. His quandary is that he believes he knows what he is buying with the VW, I said that they are not as well made as they used to be either so not to write off the Ford based on old prejudices. It's hard to justify spending the same cash on an almost 4 year old car with only one year warranty compared to what the Mountune St offers as a package, and I think performance wise the Mountune ST may edge it over the standard Gti.

Thanks for sharing your views and for the link to the thread. Appreciated.

The ST is cracking value. If I could justify it I'd love to have one!

Yes, around £16-17k for a top of the range fully loaded new car that has over 200bhp and is under 1200kg is hard to argue against.

Especially when it leads most of it's (more expensive) rivals on fun and handling.

Bossfox, my son has been reading over this thread with me and is in disbelief that you have a Yeti with 2.5tfsi engine, he wants to know bhp and torque figures for that out of interest, same with the citigo? Am I also correct in thinking you're the chap with the vinyl wrapped GTR?

You've whetted his appetite for the Mountune ST now, especially as he has a mate with a Renaultsport Clio 200 who has been bamming him up about his car thrashing the new ST. Not condoning street racing but I believe his pal to be wrong about that.

Again, thanks for the advice.

Buy the golf its already taken the hit on depreciation

The Clio is a bit quicker in a straight line but slower round corners. Plus it's not as much fun.

Unfortunately people think a good car is about the 0-62mph time.

Yeti will be around 480bhp/450lbft.

Citigo a bit less.

Yes that was me with the yellow wrapped GT-R.

You can get an LSD in the Fiesta for £1,000 including VAT and fitting.

And then pee on just about all cars in it's class that still cost more.

Clios an Auto as well isn't it?

Yes the Clio is auto with launch control and race mode, though not sure how that affects handling on normal A and B roads.

Very impressive, almost insane figures for Yeti and Citigo.

He's looking at the ST more seriously now having read through your thread, not sure if he will go brand new and spec Mountune as dealer showed screen price of £17,999 but indicated he would move on that or buy nearly new and then add Mountune. The perils of being 21 and car daft!

Yes.

Remove brain, put it in the glove box.

Stomp on accelerator.

;)

The Fiesta has such a sweet gearbox and I'm used to the noise now, I find myself blipping down changes just going to work just for the fun of it.

Have a look on DriveTheDeal website too.

A number of Ford dealers will match that to get a sale.

Simple it wouldn't, it's French and electronic so will never work :D

So I went for a car hunting day with my son yesterday, visited couple of Ford garages and one VW garage.

Salesmen sometimes get a raw deal, on occasion though that raw deal can be deserved. Evans Halshaw wouldn't give my son (he's 21) a test drive in the 64 plate ST2 demonstrator unless he said upfront that he was committing to a deal on a 15 plate car. Chap suggested to him that he wasn't about to let a youngster kick the backside out of his car just for laughs. My son simply said to him, did you get to try your shoes on before you bought them and did you need to tell the sales assistant you were definitely buying them first? Ended with my son simply walking away.

Second one, Macklin motors was much better but didn't have demonstrator. Probably going back there during the week, but a late addition to the mix has caused turmoil in his head. He found out a VW franchise in Bathgate had a 61 plate Golf Gti with only 4k miles on the clock so we went through there to check it out. Deep pearlescent black, full vwsh, vw warranty and interior that looks as if never really been sat on.

So now it's almost toss of a coin time. He likes the look of the ST2, but hasn't had a drive. He said he thought if felt a little cheapo on the inside, the plastics mainly being a bit cheap feeling to the hand. But, he is aware of Bossfox opinion that it's the best driving warm hatch in it's class, and it would come with Mountune upgrade that still carried Ford 3 year warranty. On the other side of the coin the Golf is a cracker with really low mileage.

Decision time.

Nice dilemma to be in. Choice between max driving fun, or sacrificing some of the fun for a nicer *image*

Not just image stever750 but quality/fit and finish and extra usable room etc.

I'd class quality/F&F as "image" as that ostensibly is what drives that perception in the first place.

Only just seen this but my dad works for that VW franchise and would have had a word with him for you if id seen it sooner....still could if its still there and your intrested

This thread is right up my Straße as I'm thinking about an ST - it would need to have the Mountune upgrade to offset my doubts (same as above - interior and too popular!).

Not a bad choice to have.

At 21 I had an 11 year old Ford Sierra.

While we all want different things from a car based on our car history and desires, I still drive the ST and enjoy it.

I consider it one of the top three cars I've owned out of a fair few.

The Golf is bigger, more practical and better made. But it won't handle or put such a big smile on your face when you throw it into a corner, unless you've not tried anything better.

Either is a great choice at 21.

He's going to get a great car at that age whatever he chooses.

I'd get online and try to get an ST-3 though.

The OP's son now has his new car i believe.

I must have missed the update.

There was no update.

Maybe the OP can post one when he gets the opportunity.
