230 Bhp Vrs

Featured Replies

This is there website, but it is only in Slovak as they are the only workshop to fit it...hence why it is supposedly so good.

The very basic idea of how it works is that the box is connected to 6 electronics systems in the car, but there is no way for the potential thief to know which (and each car is fitted with a unique combination which is not written down, kept on a database or otherwise recorded.  No diagnostic system can reveal which 6 are connected/disabled.  The only way to steal the car is to load it onto a transporter or otherwise spend 4 hours dismantling the system...not really time a thief has.

Know what you mean, I nearly had this fitted in my RS4 but opted against it in the end. Doesn't stop them breaking into your house and stealing your keys then trashing the car in the process!!

Wonder if the configurator has a sister, could be popular going down as often as it does.

  • Well here she is !  Over the moon with it.   Missing roof rails though and have been told that they should have been there and to await a bulletin from skoda about them ( mind you i like it without

So SUK rang me today about my email regarding the Missing Roof Bars.

They said that they were an option in the VRS brochure, and i stated that they needed to check the VRS230 brochure.  He then asked what date my brochure was (Sept 15) as my car was built in June an he would have to check the earlier brochure(interesting if he can find it) to make sure they were listed like they are in the Sept issue.

I now wait for an answer on the 14th when he is phone back with an answer about them. Then we will see what they will do about it if they will compensate me ? lol.  I dont want them on as i like it without but that is not the point as theymay have a build error and see what they will do.

Let me know how you get on.  I sent S-UK a mail via the "contact me" on the website to ask about the rails, no reply yet.

The Sept15 230 brochure clearly has rails as listed as standard equipment, and it shows on the list as std on the configurator.   I wasn't aware there was an "earlier" brochure.. bizarrely even the current sept15 brochure still isn't listed on the website.  !?

I like the clean look without the rails but from a practicality point of view i will actually need them..

Are rails standard on every Octy estate? Would be surprised if they weren't on the 230.

Yes.  standard on every estate, including the basic "S" model.  That's why were're all a bit flummoxed as to why they appear to be missing on every UK 230..

Must have been built the day after Happy Hour at the factory bar.

That's a very low punch.............

The RS230 isn't in the same market, it's aimed at the sensible family-man that likes a bit of flash, just like all of us Essex dwellers......

Ordered myself a black 230 today!!  Originally wanted a Cupra 290, but the RS230 is so much more stunning and practical.  For the money a Cupra looks boring.

Should be built and delivered in November/December so very excited.

Revo map and BBK upgrade is on the cards, but not immediately.

As is the Leon Cupra ST and Golf R estate.

Clearly won't be the case on a skoda forum but most reviews say the Leon is the best looking of the MQB platform cars.

I ended up buying the Leon as driving wise it's in another league.

As much as I prefer the looks of the Skoda and the look of the seats in the Skoda (standard seats that is) it's doesn't make up for that power and the whole suspension setup.

So although I disagree on the Seat being the best looker of the MQB platform (for me is a VRS with Black Package Plus) it's certainly the best overall package. The Golf R isn't £5k better than the Seat and not £10k better than the VRS230.

Now if they did a VRS280 with the adaptive suspension, or even VRS260, now we'd be talking! But VAG wouldn't want another car competing with the R/S3 or the FWD Cupra.

The Top gear magazine hot hatch review agrees the VRS is far less enjoyable to drive than the Leon Cupra ST.

As with every magazine it always boils down to a subjective opinion.

The Leon Cupra is no doubt a very good car, but after driving both and weighing up all the factors, the RS230 won it for me.  A DSG 290 Cupra with adaptive cruise, no sat nav, performance pack and bucket seats would set me back 35K EUR.  An RS230 with sat nav, kessy, lane assist, adaptive cruise, 9 airbags, auto headlights, heated windscreen, heated seats all round, heated washers and lots of other bits set me back 32K EUR.  In Slovakia, registering the Cupra would set me back 2300EUR whereas the RS230 will set me back 1300EUR (it depends on the KW of the engine). Thats a 4K 'saving' already.  The Leon may be technically better, but for the few days I would use it on a track or to the limit the Octavia wins hands down...more space, better looks (in my subjective opinion), more toys and for less money.  I disagree that the Cupra is massively better, the advantage of 60 more hp can be easily sorted with a Revo remap to give 300+ hp and a BBK update using TT RS brakes will set me back around 1500EUR.  As the RS230 has the all important diff then its only the adaptive suspension left as an advantage with the Cupra.

230hp is also a hell of a lot, I had a 200hp Mk2 RS and absolutely loved it!  I think either car would have been bloody good, I went for the RS230 :)

Plus the sales woman was incredibly hot and friendly :)

I was also quoted 42K EUR for a fully loaded 280hp 4x4 Superb in Laurin & Klement spec...that has the adaptive suspension and same engine as a Cupra + 4 wheel drive.  So if I was to really stretch the budget I would have probably picked that over the Cupra...I know its not really comparable, but my goodness the Superb is a stunning car!!!

In the UK the Cupra is equal/better spec than the VRS230.

Also you can get 0% on the Cupra but not on the VRS230.

So where I agree for you the VRS230 makes sense. But in the UK it's a much harder decision.

I find it quite amusing that you had an RS ordered and went for a Cupra whereas I was dead set on a Cupra but ended up getting and RS :) In all honesty I was ready to place an order for the Cupra 280 but was told I have to wait for the 290.  When that came they hiked up the price by 1630 EUR for nothing more than a different exhaust.  Even at the 280 price I was having second thoughts, but the additional price hike put me off.

As I'm getting the car as a company car (no tax here for using a company car) the dealer did a >9% reduction off the list price for business buyers.  Since we also save VAT the car will effectively cost the company around 19K GBP.  My boss has also said I can buy the car from the company in 4 year's time for its residual value and let me spec it how I want :)

Your assuming when I say 'Spec' I mean the whole spec of the car. Where in actual fact I'm comparing the individual specs. So equal in that it has same option (e.g Front and Rear Parking Sensors, 6.5" Sat Nav) or better in that it has a better version of whatever the VRS230 has (e.g Adaptive Suspension)

Although I realise now that the Cupra doesn't have heated leather or exterior auto dipping mirrors.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a troll bashing the VRS230. If anything I'm bashing Skoda UK. If I'd of got the VRS230 for what I'm paying for the Leon I'd be driving a VRS230 right now, but I'm paying less for a better speced Cupra 280 that I would of paid for a standard VRS230. (My car has the heater leather, ACC, Winter Pack, Driver pack Seat Sound etc)

TBH having driven a golf ED35 with adaptive dampers i'd actually prefer a decent set of bilsteins.

Signing my papers tomorrow for my new vRS 230.

Was the showroom model, the salesman said I could either order one from the factory and wait maybe 12 weeks, or take the showroom model next week.

I pick it up next Wednesday!

Black - hatch - manual

Pretty excited about it. Got a great deal too as I was walking out of the showroom, when they didn't meet my price expectations. salesman chased me down to offer me very close to what I wanted. Couldn't say no.

Will post pictures next Wednesday along with the deal I struck.... Don't wanna mention that yet on here as I haven't fully signed yet and don't wanna jinx anything :D

Look fwd! You must be well giddy? I have yet to convince the wife I need one of these!

How can you tell a VRS 230 from a normal VRS? Are there any visual exterior clues?

Some don't have roof rails on estate although that is a mistake apparently.

230 logo but again that is only on some.

So that just leaves:

Black and polished 19" xtreme alloys (as opposed to anthracite and polished)

Black exhaust tips

The headlights are supposed to be darker but never noticed this myself.

Stitched VRS logos on leather seats (as opposed to embossed)

Internal clue is the person driving it has a bigger smile :D cos they know they have a 230!

Swiss ones have roof racks but never seen a logo on the side and you can get most of the 230 standard kit as options on a 220.

So not much...er, black exhast tips as they pass you.

Update on the roof rails missing.

Was Phoned today and they have now passed the issue to the "branding " department and SUK are involved so it must have been skoda customer service originally ?

Another call due Friday from them. So far they have called every time they say they will.
