Slightly Tongue in Cheek - Info Alerts

Featured Replies

Just wondering if the standard messages can be reprogrammed..

Its just I choose to turn off the ASR, well as much as I can and the car feels the need to tell me I have. I know I have, I just did it!!! Does anyone know if the standard messages can be removed and edited? Id like it to say 'nuns!!!' as I fear they are most at risk from my devil may care attitude... And Im currently living in fear of icy roads, mainly because the info system warns me I should be...

Mumblings about nanny state, etc.....

Anyway, if anyone knows if it can be done, that would be smashing...

Cheers

Why?

Because it stops the nanny state interference... I don't want any driving aids, just me and the car, feeling the grip and judging how to push... Just like on my road bikes... I lean too far, I fall off... I personally hate layers between what Im doing and the feedback I receive... That's why.... that's why Ive never used cruise or lane assist or auto lights....

I drove a lot of stuff in the army and the police, including 'borrowed' and confiscated cars... The Octavia, believe it or not is one of the best out there.....

Yeah I'm not going to believe that.

Yeah I'm not going to believe that.

obviously not a gt3rs, but ive driven confiscated bmws (eurghhh), Mercedes (until they rattled to pieces - anywhere around 5 to 6 miles), etc. Also, the 405 saloon is right up there with neutral balance and driveability...

Anyway, slightly off topic..

Nanny state....one day you'll probably end up thanking ESC for saving your life no matter how good a driver you are.....TBF it probably helped you in some respects walk away from the nasty shunt you had in your old MK2 Billyb.

ASR is only the anti-wheelspin element of the ESC system anyway, disabling that (even in ESC Sport) doesnt disable ESC. I also suspect if you happened to use VCDS to disable ESC altogether (assuming it can be done) you'll probably end up having your insurance invalidated if you had a bad smack.

Some VAG cars like the Golf R have ESC off options but I believe it warns in the brochure never to use it on the public highway.

Ever thought of buying an old MX5, plenty of retroness there with no driver aids? Ideal for a bit of fun while using the daily Octavia to cosset you with all its modern tech :)

This! Got the tsi vrs for daily driving with its lifeless steering but grunty engine and huge load space then the wife's mk1 eunos roadster (jap import mx5) for hooning about and its just about as much fun as you can have for a £1000 car. With its LSD, brilliant balance and great steering not to mention one of the nicest gear shifts... The complete opposite of the octavia

Cheers, I wasn't after disabling the whole lot.. somehow the topic got jumbled... All I wanted to do was change the message on the info system, to say something that amused me, just wanted to know if it could be done.....
