Hi ladies and gents.

I'm after some help here with your Rapids.

Last Tuesday SUK tech team came to look at my Sport which has been at the dealers for 71 days with still no fix. Anyway they've concluded there report saying that the movement of the fuel gauge is "normal " and a "characteristics " of the car. He said they all do it so no problem. What a joke. Anyway I'm totally disgusted with this answer/reason for it after so long now. They're now calling in an independent check of the car because myself and the dealer say there is a problem and Skoda says there isn't.

So I'm asking for everyone's help here please as I will be using this to show SUK that they're totally wrong.

My question to you all is:

Does your fuel gauge fluctuate ?

Eg: move up and down all the time either when driving or stationary.

This is what they think is normal.

Your answers please and many thanks to you all [emoji4]

My fuel gauge absolutely does not fluctuate during use. Skoda UK are taking out of their collective arses claiming otherwise.

Cant say ive noticed mine doing it. Usually only goes one way!

My Rapid 136 did but not my new one

mine alters if i am going up hill or down hill or parking on a slant about a notch or two not thought nothing about it

The only movement I get is the gradual decrease as I drive where the fuel tank has reduced significantly. Day to day, as I'm driving there is no movement, fluctuation what so ever.

I'll add to this too that the loan car Spaceback I had didn't do it either. It was static. No fluctuation.

It may be an electrical issue though...

They've had it 71 days and tried and changed everything.

Mine just sits there too, no movement. Certainly an odd thing to call 'characteristic'

Good luck.

Mine is normal. Only ever moved down gradually. Never gone up unless I have put petrol in.

It may be an electrical issue though...

Almost certainly a resistance issue on the wiring

@Stormchaser

This is what they say, or you were next to them when checking/replacing things?

Sometimes standard checks are not enough. It may be anything, from a loose wire or poor contact, problem with electrical mass, to the actual tank sensor that may need replacement.

Same instrument cluster as the Fabia.

My Fabias fuel gauge didn't fluctuate.  My Rapids fuel gauge isn't fluctuating.  Nor did the Citigos.  Nor does my Dad's Octy.  My Sisters Citigo doesn't do it either.  Even my first two Octys didn't do it and my Fabia vRS didn't do it.

They are talking ******.

It's had a new fuel tank sender unit, instrument cluster and the wiring loom. It's had resistance checks, block tests and actual test drive resistance checks. No fault codes ever showing. Unsure of ECU or voltage resistor checking/replacing. It's even been referred back to the factory for more "checking" again [emoji6] all earthing points have been done too.

It's just a duff defective car.

That's what they said they checked but there is fault somewhere for sure

Nothing unusual noted with our fuel gauge either, although most of the cars journeys are 20 miles plus, so I'd expect the gauge to noticeable go down during the week.

As others have said the gauge shouldn't go noticeable up, unless you got a high temp change resulting in fuel expansion but I'd be surprised if this happened in the UK.

TP

Why change all that stuff if it's normal, a "characteristic" of the car?

They are talking rubbish.

BTW my Toledo is fine, no gauge problem.

Another Toledo TSi (a Rapid Sport in drag) here with no fuel gauge or dash issues.

Its probably due to the radio.

My TDI does nothing of the sort. No dancing.

The needle stays put, granted it drops faster than I'd like ;)

Troy.

Another Rapid sport here. 53 plate with 8k on the clock and I've had no issue with the fuel gauge fluctuating what so ever.
Who ever quoted that absurd statement from SUK need to be publically flogged. What a crap, contemptuous excuse to remove them from blame. I would like to quote that he or she should be ashamed of themselves coming up with such drivel.
This must be costing SUK/VW finance more money in time, effort, consumables and labour than to just write this case off as a bad day at the office.....

Call themselves a Tech Team for SUK..... I wouldn't let them pump a rugby ball up !

You've hit the nail on the head. The bass is making needle bounce.......bounce........bounce....

Tell SUK you have a solution ! Put a piece of dynomat behind the speaker

Its probably due to the radio.

Meaning?

Close.....Picture the scene. Stormchaser is driving along listening to his favourite Celine Dion/Steps/Cheeky Girls (delete applicable) album. He comes to a particulary intense part of the song and is physically bouncing in his seat. Hence the fuel gauge moving.

Well if SUK cant find a soloution. You never know?.....
