What functions can I enable?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am prepared to get my hands slapped by the more senior/knowledgeable members but it would depend on the hardware that is currently installed in your elegance. Mine is also elegance combi build in 07/2013 and it does not have the radar in the front bumper, for example. Based on this, I cannot have adaptive CC. Having said that, I would also like to know if I can "enable" lane assist as the camera that reads traffic signs (I believe) would also read the lanes, so that option may be available.

Rather than knowing what can be done, I would like to know where can it be done and by whom? Also will any changes affect the warranty? Some members have suggested that their dealership re-mapped recu and enabled some options when asked.....I just don't think they would not want to squeeze more pennies out of me?! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

The bottom line is that I am not answering your question - sorry! but I think before the oracles reply, you may need to tell us a bit more what you are after and more details about your car and whether you had any extra fitted already?

I have an octavia estate elegance spec so what extra functions could I enable using vcds?

Any definitive lists out there of what's possible?

The Elegance spec has changed at least 3 times since launch, so if you list what you have got we can work out what can be enabled on top of the factory standard spec.

If you have front assist (radar) it is in theory possible to fit ACC, but would be extremely cost prohibitive - different stalks and steering column shroud, wiring looms, additional control modules etc.

For Lane Assist you need the Lane Assist camera, which can also function as the High Beam Assist Camera (which is an option) and the traffic sign recognition camera (which is an option in most of Europe apart from the UK).

Don't confuse the Lane Assist Camera with the completely different camera that can only do High Beam Assist.

stand corrected ...my car 07-13 build comes with High Beam Assist (Inteligent Light Assistant) and traffic sign recognition. Although it only seems to scan for speed signs and display them via SATNAV display and not on the colour maxidot. I am using Amundsen, so I guess that it's not have the full version of the sign rec as other members have posted photos of different traffic signs displayed on their maxidot :envy:

okay. I went outside to get a picture of the windscreen section with the sensor and camera (link: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0zMVgSVsv5KTjRLa21VWkJ1Y1k&usp=sharing ) can you tell me, from the photo, what this kit is capable of? Thank you.

You don't have traffic sign recogniton - that is the HBA camera.

The traffic signs you are seeing on the Amundsen come from the map data.

thanks for that! I now feel low and depressed and the guy at the dealership was talking out of his ar^&! - nevermind!

What is the other part for, the diode-like square cluster I guess that's for rain sensor, right?

PS: one good thing came out of this....I am responsible for Andyvee's 5555th post - congratulations and thanks again for your quick response.

From what I see these are the list of adaption available to a standard Elegance

Enabling both rear fog lights, Enabling front and rear teardrop wipe, Enabling rainclosing, Enabling refuel quantity in the maxidot, Enabling laptimer in the maxidot, Enabling laptimer in the maxidot,

Enabling needle staging (sweep) on the instruments, Enabling passenger mirror dip on selecting reverse, Enabling rear lights with DRLs, Enabling DRLs only on AUTO, Changing the number of flashes of the comfort (lane change) indicator, Foglights as coming home/leaving home lights, Foglights as DRLs, Enabling fan (blower) speed display in AUTO mode, Enabling fan (blower) speed display in AUTO mode, DRLs flash alternately with indicating & enabling high beam assist to stay on permanently, Retrofitting Footwell lights

Great info indeed perhaps it could be pinned under vcds permanent forum?! The next question is where to get this work done? Any local member in the Surrey area who might be interested?

Power boot is not standard on an Elegance hence, I missed it off the list

Where are you based? It'll be worth looking at the technical section for your local vcds cable owner. Or as above, look for details of the nearest meet

Lukey, I'm going to the Hut meet next week and Jose is gonna be there with his VCDS for sure, just printout the VCDS mods you want and bring them with you.  Its not a bad meet and the burgers are good on a BOGOF deal, its upto you.

So an electric tailgate isn't standard (nor are footwell lights) but alcantara seats are in the UK? I'd really love to hear Skodas reasoning for the differences in spec between countries.

Here in Finland the electric tailgate is standard on Elegance, L&K, RS and Scout.

The specs seems random at best. Here in Norway the electric tailgate is an option on all trimleves.

The specs seems random at best. Here in Norway the electric tailgate is an option on all trimleves.

I think it's to do with purchase-power parity of the currency (PPP), the market research/customers' preferences, the degree of competition and nationwide legislation in each country. Being from the Czech Republic and living in the UK, I looked at getting my O3 from CZE and when I compared the specs, it just did not add up and it was so confusing with each spec showing different set of standards and extras that made it impossible to compare different models in different countries. So there goes my another reason why the topsy-turvy standard lists based on locality - VW AG is big and knowledgeable about their markets and they don't want a French customer to buy the car in Belgium/Germany. Long gone are the days where people drove to the continent to get their cars because they got exactly the same stuff but at a much lower price (despite having to put up with the steering wheel on the wrong side!  :D )

Skoda in CZE is priced cheaper than in the UK across all models. Czechs like their Skodas but the relevant income inequality and the PPP makes Skoda CZE offer a low-cost spec where just the pure basics of equipment are included. In the UK, I feel that the Skodas are prices just below the VW, Audi, BMW and M-B because Skoda continues to build its reputation and tries to get rid of the old Skoda perceptions - also, in the UK, there's a certain standard of equipment to be included as expected by the customers and even your lowest spec in the UK has certain "extras" as standard when compared to the CZE market - excellent example is the Winter Pack due to geographical and weather differences. But if you do your research, you will find that the O3 is the most expensively priced model out of all the Octavias mk1 and mk2 - the good name of Octavia has been achieved - maybe?!

Happy to discuss this further if others have different views. :coffee: :dull: :coffee:
