Getting wet when opening window

Featured Replies

Does anyone else have a problem getting wet ( often very wet) when you open a window after the car has been stood in the rain?

When I open my drivers window a veritable flood of water streams in - oddly the passenger side seems OK

I have never owned a car before that does this - it looks like a design flaw rather than lack of drainage.

I see VW UP! owners are complaining about it on the UP! forums.

Fitting wind deflectors improves that situation but the seat still gets wet when you open the door.

Yes it's a problem, coupled with the wax on the paintwork the rainwater floods off the roof and plonks itself on your lap if you have the window or door open. Sometimes just getting in can disturb the rainwater sitting on the roof.

Same in my Toledo, I've learnt to avoid opening the window until the the rain has flowed off the roof.

Usual Skoda problem this.

Had them on the Octavia and were great.

I spoke to Westover today when I popped in to collect an extra key.

They tell me that VW group has advised that a  new door/window seal is becoming available soon.

They did not know if it will be a retro fit or made available to existing customers but admitted that it is a well know fault on the UP! / Citigo / MII and needed to be addressed.

We shall wait and see! :notme:

Wonder if new builds will have the new seal as standard?

I usually open the window after all the water has run off. Thanks to Sonax BSD for that [emoji106]

It's a water problem, not flatulence. :moon:

Are these easy to fit?

Just ordered a set.

If you have the Heko ones, dead easy. put the front end in the window slot, put the rear end in, then ease the rest into the slot gently.

Stop polishing car perhaps..LOL seriously though it is a problem due to acute angle of roof line in relation the edge of doorway..

When you fit them leave the windows shut for 24 hours to let them settle, it'll mean they'll be more secure [emoji106]

Don't use the clips supplied either. They're not needed.

Yes they are the Heko ones,no doubt i'll be back when it comes to fitting lol

I used the clips, better to be safe, lasted 2 years now, just use the window to keep them in for 24 hours

I sympathise (& totally identify) with the above Citigo owners. YES getting SOAKED each & every time that it rains is a HUGE problem. Whether the car is stationary or on the move, if it's raining (or has been raining)& one opens the window, then in comes water (sometimes a colossal amount) - soaking the driver: the seat, if the driver's not already covering it: the switchgear on the door panel: the whole lining to the door. The same for the passenger door as well.

Either a TERRIBLE design problem - or some Bean Counter somewhere decided that he could save a few centimos, by not fitting the bog-standard rain channels???

Personally, I would have rather paid a few more quid, & stayed dry - after all, if the designer had bothered to have done his homework (or perhaps sat in the car when it had been wet), he would have appreciated that regular rain seems to be a fact of life in UK.

Never had this particular problem with any other previous car that I've owned.

Sigh.....................

I've not noticed this on my 2015, maybe they made some changes?

The Seat (Toledo) is the same. Even worst when you re apply some wax to the roof, it gushes off.

Every Skoda I've owned does this.

My 2013 Fabia Monte didn't - others before that one did. Picked my white Citigo Monte on Monday in the rain and immediately remembered that little trick. Wind deflectors duly purchased.

Re helping to stop steaming up of the windscreen - a woman at my gym swears by one of those little dehumidifier trap things (£1 in Poundland etc) so I gave it a go. Worked a treat last winter and spring - not one instance of steamy windows caused by my heaving breathing in the cold mornings. It'll just be a case of where to pop it come autumn - may have to go in the passenger's door (if it'll fit).

To VRS Mike.

Mine IS a 2015 model - it's just had its first one month's birthday. If "they" HAVE made any changes, then it wasn't within the last month, & also it's perhaps no more than to advise owners not to open a window when it's been raining? Easier said than done in UK!!!

Well done, Mr Skoda.

Just want to point out if you do have the wind deflectors for the Citigo don't go blasting water into them to remove any grime, it has a tendency to piddle itself a bit
