Succumbed to the options list! (who is the worst offender?)

Featured Replies

Mind you Canton and variable boot floor isnt great as the floor blocks the subwoofer port, you need to lift the floor really to get decent bass

There is supposed to be a different sub for the VBF to eliminate this problem, was your VBF a dealer retrofit?

Lol,there was a time, years back when a Skoda owner would count himself lucky if he had four wheels when the car was delivered, never mind five

  • Ah yes of course, a baby buggy - just what you need in the boot when you find a fecking great chunk of metal sticking out of the side of your tyre.  Why didn't I think of that?

  • I think it would be easier to list the options I didnt get than to list what I ordered :p

No factory , any further info on the different subs so i can see which i have ?

Don't go mad though, you could regret spending unnecessary money that will be lost when trading in.

I'd regret not taking an option that I miss more than paying a little extra for something I don't need as much...but I guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping the car.

When I got my Civic as a last car it came with a spare wheel which I promptly sold to a forum member so that I could reclaim the boot space. (needed it for the baby buggy!)

And of course the Octavia is renowned for having a small boot [emoji6]

True true.

Same here. Nothing more annoying than realising down the line that the option you didn't want is the one you actually need regularly. Speccing on option you won't use in the end is just a minor and mostly financial inconvenience (unless you chose a very very expensive option that you never use. If final budget is the issue then you just have to chose substance of appearance.

As for the original thread. We bought the VRS with a base price of just over 28000€ and added about 5-6000€ extras, which went quite quickly (the biggest options we didn't chose were satnav and leather as they would be the sort of options I won't use much or regret having) . But then the car will be kept pretty much until it falls apart.

Off topic, but I have ordered winter package here in Norway. I don't think heated front screen is included? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well it definitely is here in Finland. I'd imagine it would be the same over there since our winter conditions are very similar.

(Our Winter pack consists of: Heated front windscreen, heated washer nozzles, heated rear seats, remote controlled auxiliary heater and a set of floormats.)

The Norwegian winterpack is the same. Unsure about the floormats, but the rest is the same.

I ordered it.

Edit: just remembered, I dont think the heated windscreen is included.

I was correct, the Norwegian winterpack is the aux heater, heated backseats and some kind of cargonet.

Heated washer nozzles is standard along with heated frontseats.

Too bad...

I've seen it mentioned on the forum, but at a guess, the sub port should be above the vbf, probably easier to find a PIC of standard sub and see if you're is different.

Sub port is below the VBF when it is the highest position. Difference is down to the surrounding area between the sub and the VBF.

Here is a pic of mine with the VBF out of the way. The port is in the same area as a non-VBF sub, if anything the port appears more open (I say appears as I've not got access to a non-vbf one).

well that isn't going to work well. How is the sound pressure supposed to get into the cabin?

The bass port is just for tuning, it doesnt really deliver any sound.

Its just a way to make the speaker sound better. Closed speakers require better components to do the same, and often a bigger enclosure.

Agreed. My point though was that essentially the port will be enclosed when the VBF (Variable Boot Floor) shelf is lowered down, this leaves no part of the speaker open to the cabin (from what I can see in the pictures so far)

Where exactly is the speaker in that thing? Is it fully enclosed inside?

Ordering my first new car and finding it very hard to resist myself when choosing options. On one hand I know that what I spec now won't make a huge difference to the resale value, but on the other hand this will be MY car for the next few years so don't want to do without something that would be good/useful!

Here is what I am thinking:

VRS Estate with options:

Red (it's free!)

Black pack

Sunset glass

Panoramic roof

Colour Maxi dot

Some sort of sat nav (waiting on MY16)

Front assist

Park assist (originally thinking front parking sensors but it's only £200 more!)

Who is the worst offender?

Me

Take a L&K DSG as a base, then add every single option apart from the door bin and boot net and factory towbar (which wasn't available when I ordered).

I had to amend the order to add the reversing camera and then the build got locked a week later :)
