LedPerf license plate LED bulbs.

Featured Replies

Anybody had problems with their license bulbs?

I changed my No plate bulbs for LED ones supplied by LedPerf this week, fine when I checked them after fitting, but came home from work this morning with my lights on and I have a bulb warning on the dash saying "check license plate bulbs", I presume this is the canbus warning.

They are both working, but I was just wondering if I may have done something wrong.

I know some can be fitted one way and they don't work, would this be the case for my error but the bulbs still work?

You can't put those ones in the wrong way as the led would point up so it soul be pretty obvious.

I had a pair off the same one in for maybe 10 months now with no problems.

Doesnt it need a reprogramming with VCDS?

Not the ledperf ones as they have resistors built in.

Cheers guys,

I must have a faulty one, I've sent them an e-mail so hopefully hear back next week.

I had a problem with one of mine, got the error message. When I opened it to check it the LED was really hot. Put it back with the intention of changing when I'd finished work but when I parked up it was working again, I got the error message again the next day. I've contacted LEDperf and they've offered me a €5 discount which equals free postage against a new purchase but no further discount. Mine have been replaced by the original bulbs until I can get my cheap replacement bulbs coded correctly, I'm not going to pay for expensive bulbs again that only last 6 months.

You should just get normal LEDs and code the car.

All these suuposed CANBUS friendly LEDs are an expensive con and potentially can damage your BCM.

Doh!

I did wonder that, seeing as that is all that VW seem to do.

Hay ho the power of advertising and a good website.

If you were closer Andy I'd be banging on your door for various VCDS  "adjustments"!

Mike Holroyd has had to replace a completely fried BCM on a rapid caused by Xenon HIDs with Canbus friendly ballasts.

Bcms aren't designed to cope with resistive and capacitative loads that fool it into thinking a filament bulb is present.

Totally agree - best avoiding the load resistors built in with these LED's.

We were testing some the other week and put a thermocouple on the festoon heatsink..... 70+ degC!!!!

They work ok on the car, but the thought of putting theses in a small enclosed bulb holder unit with minimal airflow/cooling......hmmm.

Get the car coded would be my recommendation.

Mm, I think I'll be removing them this afternoon.

So the best way is buy the genuine VW ones, then get them coded by the VCDS yes?

Or just buy standard LEDs. Much cheaper. I got genuine Cree LEDs from aliexpress.

Hmmm, I ordered licence plate bulbs from Ledperf last week, as well as fog light and headlight bulbs, arrived today! Guess I shouldn't fit the licence plate ones then? What about the headlight and fog lights bulbs from them, would they be okay to use?
