I have sat in Audi A7 yesterday with top spec interior and than I realized what cheap piece of crap Octavia is inside :D

Yes but sit in a current A3 which is much more a comparison and there isnt alot of difference really. If anything the Mk3 Octavia has an overall more expensive feeling cabin than a current gen A4/A5....the quality of the dash plastics on one of those is pretty shameful for its price/ relative prestige.

A friend of mine has an A3 s line, current shape. I'd say his is better finished off inside than my vrs. Granted, the difference isn't huge but it is there and it is noticeable. He does however lack some of the standard equipment that mine has. Sound insulation is also better in the A3.

In all fairness, my 2010 passat had better sound insulation than my Octavia. Some of that is down to ****ty design. The door cards, for example, are an acre of just plastic, bar a tiny bit of material in the door pocket. That sort of thing make a a huge difference to isolating and insulating against noise. There is nothing to absorb the sound waves, or even increase the panel mass and lower the resonant frequency. My passat had big sections of padding set into the door panels.

The thing with Audis is that yes they do look and feel better, but it's the same **** parts underneath...

My brother has an A3 as a company car, he has already decided, 2 years ahead of changing, he will get an Octy next, as he drives mine and prefers it to the A3.

Not annoyed, but a bit worried that none of it annoys me.....

I suppose the fact we had a puncture, wife didn't notice it, drove on it and had to keep going until she could safely stop, which ruined the tyre, which cost me £80 is as close as I've got

But stopping immediately would have cost more than a new tyre if the car had been hit.

And though the TPMS didn't flag it up, I'm not sure I'm that bothered..... The other (better) system has the downside of expensive valves and if she'd run that flat then maybe damage to the transmitter.

So I'm still in a state of happiness/ambivalence after 6000 miles and 6 months.

I'm with john above. I'm enjoying the cars quirks. I'm accepting the functionality as is. I'm struggling to see anything that's worth mentioning. It's also been quite mind boggling reading some entries. I'm hoping some have put things on here for the sake of it, rather then genuinely believing they have a valid gripe. But each to their own. After owning a nearly new MK4 Golf GTI for the last 12 years (which I loved), I find my Octy VRS a veritable feast of new technology, intuitive engineering, surprising build quality and driving it brings a smile to my face everyday. I know this post is off topic, so apologies for that.

The door bins are surprisingly small, considering how much Skoda goes on about storage space. I guess the reason they go on about being able to fit a bottle in them is because that is pretty much the only thing that will fit.

Yes, I also found this annoying, the front ones are small. The rear ones are even smaller!

Is this one of those obsessive/compulsive things??

One thing that bothers me is that the follow/leaving home functionality lights up the Xenons. Its outright dangerous when parked along a dark road. It will dazzle oncoming traffic.

Will have to get that recoded to the DRLs.

Or the fogs. Even with the normal halogen lights I think I'd prefer the fogs to be use for the home functions.

I've found one reason why the rear seat arrangement is annoying me. While the outer seats are each 2 inches wider than in my ancient Focus, the centre seat is 2 inches narrower and HALF the width of the others, and the Focus centre seat was pretty narrow already.

Could be worse.

What if Skoda had the centre as a separate piece, with the power motif set at an angle you did not like, and you could not adjust it? :devil:

This annoys me...

Lol... Me too! My solution is the adjust the volume from the steering control and when a passenger adjusts the volume using the knob I'll re-centre it and adjust the volume for them from the steering wheel.

The wife gets it and now when it's safe to do so will reach across to the steering to do the volume adjustment, but other people must think I have OCD or something! [emoji47]

The handbooks. Very very annoying to have to go back and forth on the same subject.  Not a mention of Post Code input.  The rear seats do not go properly flat. 

I agree about the handbook - it might as well be written in Chinese.

 

However, had to use jack for first time today - terrible. Also the way everything is stuffed into the styrene "tool box" inside the spare wheel is not a patch on previous Octavias.

Also hate the little plastic covers over the wheel nuts even with the so-called special tool to remove them.

Think I'll have to get myself a new trolley jack - not that it will be much use for problems out on the road!

 

BTW, has anyone had trouble removing a wheel, even after all the bolts are out?

First time removal of wheels is always a bit of a git. They never put grease on the hub so they always stick. You need to put some aluminium grease on them

I've not tried to use the jack yet on the car and hopefully never will.... However from reading some of the reviews I guess I'd better maybe have a wee try at it when the weathers nice and in the comfort of my driveway rather than on the hard shoulder of the.motorway at night in the pouring rain

When my first year service  is due, end of October, I'm going to ask them to remove all wheels, and refit with Copper Slip or similar. The service itself is free but I'd pay for the wheel grease job if necessary (I suspect they will do it for free but you never know!)

 

If I have a flat before then I will have to call out the AA, there is no way I can shift a wheel if they are all like this.

Just make sure its only applied to the very centre spiggot of the hub as its the friction from the clamping force between the back of the wheel and the mount face of the front of the disc/hub that takes the load under acceleration and braking

I would assume the mechanic involved would know what he is doing! Hope I'm right !!!
