What about the things that annoy you?

Featured Replies

All I do is press the lock button again to make sure. Although most of the time I am locking it after having driven it, so the mirrors will tell me if its locked or not anyway.

Problem with pressing the lock button again is that you could deactivate the deadlocks (VAG have always been quite bizarre in that their cars deadlock and you have to deactivate them by 2nd press, rather than activate by 2nd press)....you could make your car inadvertantly easier to break into.

  • There are very good reasons for driving on the left   1.Your sword arm always faces the oncoming traffic 2.Your horse-whip does not snag in the hedges 3.You do not end up walking in the gutter whe

  • Seriously people, just start driving on the right side of the road so manufacturers won't have to bother with trivial stuff like that anymore!

  • There is a persistent squeaky noise coming from the front passenger seat.       (I keep telling her to shut up but she won't................ )

RE the mirrors they arent always a perfect telltale of locked/unlocked status as it is possible to fool them.....if you lock the car quickly after unlocking it as the mirrors are unfolding....more often than not the mirrors wont refold....I believe you have to unlock and then lock the car again to trigger them.

Similar in reverse, I think its also possible to lock and then quickly unlock the car whilst the mirrors fold in and they dont retract again....though a touch of the unlock button I believe does trigger them to unfold.

I like that they unfold on unlock as I like that I can see out of the side mirrors as soon as I get in the car and whilst starting the ignition.....not after.

When parking somewhere really tight you tend to have to manually fold the mirrors using the mirror switch anyway to get close enough to walls/pillars and its effectively an override switch....unlocking the car wont trigger the unfolding of the mirrors only moving the mirror switch to a regular postion will and only with the ignition on....the manual retract also only works with the ignition on.

There is the oportunity to manually unfold a mirror against a wall but it'd be unlucky or in a moment of madness.

One time I thought I may have broken mine.....rare occasion (and desperate act to get a v dirty car a bit cleaner) took it through an automated car wash.....didnt think to fold the mirrors but the car wash did that for me.....made a bit of a bang as they unfolded again which made me feel a little unwell but they have been fine.

Most of my annoyances are to do with the Amundsen. The satnav is pretty poor - has a great habit of showing approaching roundabouts as mysterious circles til you're right on it, only then dramatically revealing which way you should go. The artificial volume limiting is maddening,

But the most irritating thing is the interface with the iPhone via their Matsumi thing. Terrible. Gets hopelessly lost if playing anything other than the music player - podcasts / other apps often don't start at all, or get stuck in a permanent loop of play / stop / play stop. Wrong info on screen usually, then it might crash, needing to be disconnected to go back to square one. Bluetooth much more stable - no album art but hey. Only genuinely useful thing about the whole cable deal is that it charges the phone. Other than that, hopeless.

Windscreen Wiper Park Position on passenger side, why is it so high? I thought maybe it was mine and was going to ask dealer for an adjustment but looking at others they all seem to be the same. Drivers side is nice and low, wish the  passenger side was the same. I know they raise slightly when in use/auto position and move to park when off, but the passenger side parks much higher than it needs to imho, loads of space below. Is it the same on LHD? perhaps a RHD issue?

Skoda Octavia III 2.0TDi CR Elegance Hatchback

Dislikes:

Small wing mirrors with no blind spot.

Satnav screen too cluttered with side streets.

Seat side pockets have been removed.

Fuel tank reduced by 5L.

Central pop up storage space on dashboard has been removed.

Hdd plugged into USB needs to be formatted in FAT32.

Potholes more noticeable with the low profile tyres.

Rubber strip at top of hatchback causes water to run down read window.

The above post last line should "rear" window

Ok - a (very) minor niggle. Where the top of the dash meets the lower edge of the windscreen there is a narrow slot going downwards.

Every now and then the wife's blue badge slides down into the slot and I have to rescue it with tweezers.

Must remember to keep the BB away from the B******** slot !!

The buttons on the stalk for cruise control are very 'clicky'

A lot of my friends are like that too.......................

To all those complaining about your mirrors and when they unfold...

At least you had the option to get them - They were "not an option" on the UK VRS when I ordered mine ('63 plate)  :envy:

Position of the driver foot rest. I find my leg sits at an odd angle (and I'm not a tall man) which gets uncomfortable on long journeys.

Whats the solution to this?

There was a drizzle the other day, and water gathered in the door. Only my catlike reflexes saved me from wet shoes. :p

Gromle...had the new door seals fitted today...modified with some "extra bits taken out" according to the dealer ( I could see the difference from the old ones). So far so good...  two torrential downpours and no shoe wash !! Also had an update on the Amundsen applied to try and cure the random zoom in and out issue, but it seems that hasn't fixed it. So will be informing the dealers again tomorrow.

My dealer said there was no official fix for the door seals on the Octavia.

Sounds like they've just bodge a few cuts in another set of seals and fitted them?

Skoda UK were involved and told me that there was a fix for this. What ever they have done seems to have stopped the shoe wash.

I've had my VRS 6 weeks (15 plate) now and not had the "shoe wash" problem at all, so I guess Skoda have addressed the problem, and the modified door seals are available.

Mine hasn't done it and we've had a shed load of rain... No issues. I'm talking about flooding type of rain!!!

Mine did it once. And it was built in March this year.

It wasnt alot of water, more a little splash when I opened the door. But havent testet after heavy Rain yet.

Yes mines a March build too, I collected her on the 3rd April.

We've had a fair amount of rain over the last couple of days/weeks, and as yet no water foot wash problems

The black 'finish' on the outside of the doors which seems to scratch incredibly easily. I hope people here know what I'm on about. Normally it's matte or matched paint on cars but Skoda put on a metallic finish that looks great but scratches when you just look at it.

Have you happened to have taken photos of the bit that's different? I'm curious to know how they differ.

That would I like to see aswell.

I can take some tonight of the new seals. I didnt take any of the old seals though..only a quick video of water being released when opening the door which i gave to Skoda.

A very small thing, but it is slightly annoying that you need a screwdriver or similar to take the rear headrests off - I reverse mine when the childseats are in, and its fiddly to have to get a screwdriver for this job, when the previous ones used to simply pull out.

You can use the ignition key for that

I spotted that on mine a while back and rubbed it with a small pad of Duraglit Brasso wadding. The scratch vanished!
