Handheld GPSs need a clear view of the sky to function and can't necessarily be relied upon in city centres, eg Cambridge, where streets can be narrow and/or buildings tall. I say this from experience with a Garmin eTrex Vista.

Geoff - did you purchase a secure digital card with your PDA. I also purchased the car kit which I will get my local auto electrical engineer to fit.

Gaz,

I did indeed by a SecureDigital card (128Meg) but i shopped around and got it a bit cheaper, from Ebuyer.com if i recall correctly. There wasnt much in it pricewise, but as i also bought a Multi Card reader at the same time, it made sense to save a few quid.

As for the car kit, all you need is to hard wire the power supply lead in (as opposed to using the ciggie lighter adaptor) all i plan to do is pick up a feed from the back of the radio, and leave the lead coiled up in the storage space under the head unit when i dont need it. :)

Did you buy the Euro map software too ?

mmmm....

i think that for me at least, it's a question of wait and see how these products develop.
