Paint chips, rust spots

Featured Replies

I've got a few paint chips and spots where the paint has chipped and then rusted a little underneath - no bubbling yet though.

What's the  best/easiest/cheapest way to deal with this? Car is VW Jazz blue.

Cheers!

Erh, Well I think it's a sand down and respray as I have seen on Wheeler Dealers. However I could be wrong. Hopefully someone with a better frame of mind than mine can give you some valid answers.

Good Luck!

Sanding down and respraying is one way, however it is very difficult to blend such small areas, are the chips on the bumper/bonnet ? If so it would be best to sand down the entire bonnet, or, if there are any 'angles' on the bonnet, as in a change in shape, then this can act as the 'border' of where to sand up to. So if the majority of the chips were on one half of the bonnet, that half could be sanded down and resprayed, in the ideal world.

Professionally it isn't cheap. Although I would definitely have it done properly than attempting it myself.

Some pictures would help Alessio.

Additionally - if there is rusting happening it would suggest the chip has gone as deep as the metal. You could try and give the panel (s) a really good polish and SEAL the entire panel with wax. It won't solve the issue, and the chips and spots will still be there, but it could provide a satisfactory improvement. What's more, a bottle of polish and a bottle of wax/sealer will be much cheaper than respraying/spot spraying.

I'll try and provide some pics either later tonight or tomorrow. Some are on the roof - no idea how, they were there when I bought it.

Cheers guys!

Another place to look / ask would be on the 'Styling and Car Care' section.

There is a lot of information there on paint, spraying, cleaning, preventing and all sorts related to your woe.

Where abouts on the car are the chips / rust ... Mines chipped and rusting on the sills goin into the arches shes booked in for sanding back undersealing then painting back over .... If it's like bonnet or doors it will need respraying or possible paint warranty from dealer if it's still init
