depreciation how much worth 3yrs old

Featured Replies

wondering while its nice to get new, how much less would a citigo be worth 2-3 yrs later.

after a car for daughter, ad I know its not her preferred choice as budget doesn't allow, so know she wont be wanting to keep it for yrs to come.

so will I be taking a big hit in buying new, do certain models have a better residual value? on a budget as have to factor in insurance .

I know that selling it back to dealer would get peanuts.

there doesn't seem to be that many for sale privately used mainly all through dealers, is that because people privately struggle to sell them on

I would consider a "good car" for residuals to still be worth half its original price after 3 years.  I think many cars average out around 40%

Auto Express puts Citigo at 41.9% after 3 years - pretty good.

They also rated it 5 stars - so people probably keep them rather than sell them on.

some of the early 2012 examples are at 3 years now so that should give you a better idea

make sure you get a reasonable warranty as it will out of original manufacturer warranty,

a 60PS model will do and also be lower on insurance, as the 75PS only shows any difference when rev'ed past 4000rpm

3 door makes it a pain in rear for people to get in and out of the back so less likely she will get used as a taxi

what is the preferred car your daughter is looking at? as we might be able to give you some pluses in your favour

has to be a 5 door, a white car it must be lol

she likes fabia but citigo make be cheaper insurance, she does like the look of monteo carlo

now thinking of pcp, as if you get it at right price, my head is in a whirl now

Elsewhere on the What CAR site they talk about Target Price.

This is what you should be aiming to pay and for most cars it's substantially less than the RRP.

However, you can often beat the Target Price if you shop around enough and choose the model you buy carefully.

http://www.whatcar.com/car-reviews/skoda/citigo-hatchback/summary/26091-5

on this page the target price is about a 5% discount (this is a popular car clearly).

but here, pre-registered cars, start at  £500-600 less than the Target price :)

sorry I am having a blonde moment :cocktail:  meant to say is the depreciation price what I should be looking to pay for a used car at that age year 1or 2

You will probably get more value back in the future with a 5 door to be honest, they are the more preferred choice among some, my car bought in 2013 is worth a whopping £4000 :D guess that means I'll have to turbo it and eventually run it into the ground

Edit - My same model car is worth more value as a 5 door :wall:

Just quickly

Interestingly the Citigo is worth more than the Up!

I think the Take Up is the bottom model whereas the Citigo SE isnt.

Dealers will probably windscreen sticker them higher, but the figure from the graph gives you something to negotiate towards.

Value, about a third to half of what you paid for it new..unless it was a mini.

private ones for sale atm seem to be same price as dealers.

is it that private sellers just don't realise how much they have depreciated.

should an allowance be made for any additional extras the cars has, and are there some extras that are vital to have.

where can I find the deprication guide for a fabia.

read on here that fabia may be cheaper to insure than citigo as more youngsters have front crashed in citigo.

My daughter aint even sat in one of the cars yet, I need to make sure she can touch the pedals, she is just less than 5foot

my wife is 5 foot nothing and had no issues with peddles in her citigo

I an 6 foot 2 and could also get comfortable,

regards the front end crashes, one thing we noted was the citysafe made no difference to insurance, in some cases it even pushed the premium up

white car? hope she likes washing it (or you do :) :) )

my wifes 18month old 63 reg citigo elegance is up at a dealers for only £7000, and my 12 reg GLII fabia estate is up for £8000, but both are red

the fabia will be more expensive on road tax as the citigo is band A or B the older fabia petrols tend to be band C or D I think you will find and band D is the £135 / year

what sort of use is the car likely to get? and the annual mileage?

Keep an eye out for deals or steals they are around.

Bought my wife's car(Citigo 3 door 60ps SE) from a main dealer at 6 months old, for around £1,900.00 less than the first owner did @ £9,250.00 OTR and got a pid in the deal as well as it having 3 years servicing and a full tank of fuel!

Only had 400 miles too :)

Not sure if you are cash but it can help push the deal ;)

It is so cheap to run at group 1 ins and 58mpg (when wife drives it) average!

well  I think im going to go for a 2-3 or 4yr  old car, as

if new probably would of gone for a pcp, if no deposit and payments low enough, I wouldn't be concerned what end value is.

But if I can find a used car for not much more than the guide for depreciation on what car , I be happy as I need to factor in car insurance for first time driver. Also i know this isn't her first choice of car but money is a issue, my car is 12 yr old have from a yr old

ive just been to tescos this morning and cant believe I got speaking to a friend, sods law her friend wanted rid of her car as emigrating and ended up taking it back to dealer she got 5k for it only 18month old and in white, probably model I was after.

she said she was hoping to get around £6500 but she said what she thought her car was worth to actual selling price 2 different things.

whats city safe can I ask, is it something to do with brakes

good no issues with pedals, im only 5ft2 but daughter  about 4ft 10, yet younger daughter 5ft 6, sames dads incase you wondering lol

just need to check out whether a stroller would fit in boot or not, and whether the fabia has a better boot size.

really need to get cost of insurance, would have to be in her name as name driver

has to be a 5 door as a car seat in a 3 door car, I cant cope with lol

with being for a first time car owner they have no idea on what costs are involved of owing a car, living in Newcastle also also high risk suppose same with any city.

City safe - it's basically a radar in the rear view mirror base that's active in slow traffic, if it detects you are about to have a low speed impact the car will auto brake for you to avoid a accident, but again only at low speeds, as for a stroller take it down to a Skoda dealer and shove it in the boot of a car they have on the forecourt, I'm sure they won't mind, I can get my friends foldable triangle zimaframe thingy into the boot and still put the parcel shelf down

Thanks for that,

I told her to go to local dealer  and take stroller with her, problem is she probably see some other car take her eye.

don't want to be buying another stroller little one is not even 18month and on her 4th pram, spent a fortune, just bought a new one, may have to buy a new car seat as well.

and maybe book a test drive of the citigo and fabia.

with having a child now its all about practically, never mind what looks good.

does any of the citigo come in leather interior, just with a toddler being in back maybe easier to keep clean

what models come with PID as standard

I think it's only the Up! Models that come with leather interior, if I'm correct I think that, the base model (S) doesn't even come with a hole to slot the PID into and it needs to be retrofitted the (SE) model comes with the mounting points but no PID the (Elegance) model will come with a PID as well as the (Sport) (Monte Carlo) and the (Black Edition) but I could be wrong, but if I am they can be added as a optional extra when it comes to purchase, you might be able to get a deal as well dependent on dealer as a new PID can cost around £300
