That's from the MKI. Its fitted in the lower section of the door card, next to the fuel filler cap release switch. Can't think where you'd fit it. Cant you just release the boot from your key? 

Ive 3 spare unused switch spaces on the centre console, using the key fob means fiddling and taking the key out

The ability to release the boot/hatch with the key fob from inside the car is disabled AFAIK when the ignition is on and it certainly doesn't work on mine. Not sure if this can be tweaked with the relevant software?

Of course! That'd be an interesting project.

what switches usually fit in the (4) spare slots i have on the drivers side of the gear lever?

I assume somewhere there is a boot release relay and/or a solenoid?

Why not just push the 'unlock' button on the drivers door - seems the easiest solution.

Mine does, just been outside to double check it.

 

In the MFD I have it set so one key fob push locks/unlocks all doors, plus auto lock when it is moving. If set to double push only the drivers door locks. The 'unlock/lock' button on the drivers door includes the tailgate on mine.

OK, were talking about different things, I assumed you just wanted to unlock it from the drivers seat, I now understand you want to release the lock mechanism.

I think it's to raise the tailgate...

im a taxi driver, if i stop to pick up and there is luggage, while im happy to stop the engine, remove the key, press the tailgate release button, it would be far easier to have a tailgate release button (with ign on or of), most passengers are happy to lift the tailgate if its released but with just the key fob its a stop/key out job

 

my 1st mondeo and the chevrolet had buttons, much simpler

as there is a release solenoid i assume a shot of 12v operates it
