Airbag module fault, and measuring..

Featured Replies

Hi again Briskodians! :)

Once again i need your assistance, in this case regarding the Airbag module. I've been reading about this matter but can't get to the conclusion myself.

VCDS Lite says:

Control Module Part Number: 6Q0 909 605 H

  Component and/or Version: 08 AIRBAG VW5  08   0006

           Software Coding: 12344

            Work Shop Code: WSC 13765

                      VCID: 3C0BB7F33F73

3 Faults Found:

00532 -  Supply Voltage B+

        07-10 -  Signal too Low - Intermittent

01312 -  Powertrain Data Bus

        37-10 -  Faulty - Intermittent

65535 -  Internal Control Module Memory Error

        00-10 -   - - Intermittent

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I suspect that the module is broken (65535 -  Internal Control Module Memory Error 00-10 -   - - Intermittent) and the other two fault does not exist anymore.
-The car had a short in the PAS pump due to moister ingress and was totally corroded inside, that made all warning lamps go nuts. I have sorted every electrical fault i could find, and a new PAS pump has been installed and working fine.

The alternator seems to work just fine, and non of the other modules complains about low voltage. In the measuring block section i can see that it has connection with all airbags and sensors, as well as the seat belt tensioner. (Also Voltage Supply correct, but i'm not sure what it refers to.)

(4UE = Airbag for driver and front seat passenger, 4X1 = Side airbag front, 4QU = 3-point seat belts front w/ tensioner (electr.) and height adjustment)

Now, can i measure the pins (26 and 51 in the picture below) in the connector without damaging anything, just to make sure that this is as i suspect a module error? It should be 12V right?

I've also checked the CAN Databus Powertrain MBV if it helps:
J104 -1
J234 -1
J285 -1
J500 -1
J519 N/A -Something wrong with this one? Every other system seems to work just fine..

Give me a shout if any other information is required!

Thanks
Tim

There was a Official Recall for MK1 Fabias,  'Airbags',  check if your car was part of the recall.

That was a fast response, thanks!

Just something about the passenger airbag.. not the module itself.

Do anyone have some knowledge about this? :)

Yes, I had exactly the same problem, my PAS pump failed and took out the airbag ECU, I bought another airbag ECU on ebay and threw the old one in the bin. Problem solved.

I was lucky, I bought the same part number: 6Q0 909 605 H and got the right soft coding, 12340 in my case, by pure luck because you can't recode the ECU using VCDS, the ECU was cheap at £27.50 including postage.

Here's my VCDS report for the old ECU:

Sunday, 15 March 2015, 13:59:05:18585

VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.2

Control Module Part Number: 6Q0 909 605 H

  Component and/or Version: 04 AIRBAG VW5       0004

           Software Coding: 12340

            Work Shop Code: WSC 13765

                      VCID: 3C0BFF6A3F73

1 Fault Found:

65535 -  Internal Control Module Memory Error

        00-10 -   - - Intermittent

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

You need an ECU, try and get one from the exact same model with the same part number AND version number, you can't use one from a crashed car which has had an airbag deployment because it sets a non-erasable flag in the ECU.

The soft code means you have driver, passenger and side airbags together with electrically ignited seatbelt pretensioners, mine does not have the side airbags which is why my code is 12340 where yours is 12344.

The part number you need is therefore 6Q0 909 605 H (or 1C0 909 605 H), but it MUST be version number 08, nothing else will work I'm afraid.

This one for example:

Will NOT work because it is version number 04 and it is therefore the same as mine with the wrong soft coding for you.

I believe it is possible to get a module recoded but it must be sent away to be done and it is therefore quite expensive.

Good luck.

Thank you sepulchrave! Good information as usual. :)

I pretty much knew all that stuff except 1C0 909 605 H could be used also, thats really good info there.

I went ahead and checked the voltage in the Airbag connector and as i thought there was a healthy 12,26V there.

One thing i don't get though, is that it says this: 08 AIRBAG VW5  08   0006 in vcds as posted. But on the module label it say index 05. Whats up with this, now i'm confused.

Maybe i'll try an Airbag reset tool, i've read about people having success with that. Finding a module with all the right numbers and coding seems quite impossible.

You're right about that, the index number doesn't match the version number, it looks like the version number isn't printed anywhere, mine must have been a happy coincidence.

So, i guess i have three numbers. Wow! This car keeps giving me pita. :P
