Mirrorlink - update from Skoda UK 29/5/2015

Hi, I am new to this thread, and read your posts with interest.

Yesterday I picked up my new Fabia SE from the dealer expecting Smartlink. The car was already at the dealers when I saw it last Monday, the brochure said that Smartlink was included as standard especially as it was the end of July when I was buying the car - how wrong I was. I went back to the dealer later in the day saying that I could not get it to work, the first response was that have you checked the phone compatibility as per the web page given in the brochure, obviously the IPhone5 is not compatible with Mirrorlink hence the need for Smartlink. The salesman admitted not knowing about the technical aspects, and another more 'tetchy' salesman tried to connect my phone with no luck. His response was when are you due an upgrade!! I mentioned about the pre/post Week 22 production and they had no idea what I was talking about. In fact I asked when it was produced, they did not know or even how to find out from the VIN. Again not terribly good customer service or after salesman service!!

You don't expect to have to deal with this with what is a new car with the specifications stated in a brochure, on line, etc

I read Kevrs16's post about the Kenwood, has anyone else managed to get that offered by their dealers?

It is a possible option if Samrtlink is not available? How do people think this will affect the resale of the car by not having Smartlink?

The dealers just don't have a clue, just like Skoda.

What were you told about the specification of the car when you were looking to purchase?

If the dealer has mis-sold you the Smartlink,  as it looks like you only have Mirrorlink, then you will have to complain to them and Skoda UK.

I warn you now, it is a very painful process, and I am still waiting for my Kenwood unit, that should have arrived last week.

  • Hi all, First post here, but I did follow the mirrorlink topics here with great interest, as I'm also the "lucky" owner of a pre-w22 car (w20 ). First of all I can tell you that it's the exact same

  • I have today had a very positive half an hour phone conversation with one of the consumer Journalists from Auto Express, who are now pursuing the case with Skoda. From what I have told them of my own

  • Pictures all taken - Game on!   (Apparently some guys at Auto Express couldn't get Mirrorlink to work properly either) (Tehehe)

We too picked up a new SE-L on Friday, that has Mirrorlink not SmartLink.  I had asked while we were waiting for it to be delivered if it was a post week 22 car and been told it was.

To be honest I'm not that bothered about using SmartLink, but having been told it was a post 22 car, by a salesman who appeared to know why I was asking it is spoilt what is otherwise a great car.

Not had our follow up phone call yet, but it might be interesting when it does come!

I see you are in Northampton, was your dealer Progress?

I purchased from Progress in Bedford, so all in the group should full well know.

surely skoda uk realise the damage this is doing to the brand??

We have been back to the dealer today, the manager said he had to speak to his service manager and will ring us back tomorrow - time will tell if he does, but assured me he would ring whatever!!

We had a June 2015 brochure that said that Smartlink was standard, little did we know the dealers were selling a car older than the brochure and therefore was not standard. It is only while looking at this forum we have found out about the pre and post week 22 manufacture dates, the dealers knew nothing of it when we spoke to them yesterday or indeed today. They are under the impression that the system may be upgradeable!!

They need to know their products.

I think you will find that the stock cars they had were pre week 22 cars That's why they introduced 0% deals etc . I see Skoda don't know when to stop digging the hole they made for them selfs[emoji19].

Kate has tried for a week to speak to my dealer and failed! As she has now gone on holiday I guess I'm foobarred  :wall:

I think it now makes perfect sense Mick 50, post number 356.

A hard lesson to learn, I am not holding my breath anything will be resolved!! We can live in hope.

Has anyone else had an offer of the Kenwood as per Kevrs16's post?

Personally, having read your story, I'd simply reject the car now unless you got it for an absolute stonking price.

Order a new one through a discount website (drivethedeal, carwow etc).

Only way dealers and Skoda are going to realise this is an important issue.

Don't you think that everybody should contact trading standards I have and it seems they know very little about the problem, for goodness sake just all make the call and lets bite Skoda's arse. Was told on Friday in no way will anyone get anything other than the Garmin unless their Dealership comes to an arrangement with them that does not include Skoda UK. Once again please contact TS

I am about to buy a new phone and was wondering if anyone has testet Mirrorlink with a Samsung S6 Edge?

This link does not work anhmore it seems.

Edited by puntable

I have tried the s6 I could not get it to work with mine. I just recieved an error screen with Mirrorlink:error.

It did however do a lot more than all the other phones I have tried.

On a side note, my dealer reckons there are only 40 affected customers in the UK with mirrorlinkgate related problems. 40 knocked off garmins = £2k ish = cheapest hush money ever!!

I think your dealer must be in laa laa land if only 40 people are affected, though it would explain why I have seen only 4 other Fabias on the road lol

it works with my S4 and samsung seem to be on the favoured list. BUt smartlink is temperamental, sometimes my S4 is flagged as being non compatible. Last night I tried my neoghbour's moto x and it said it was incompatible, then we installed android auto on the phone and suddenly it worked. The perils of being an early adopter

Smartlink / android auto is compatible with every phone having "Android LOLLIPOP" 5.X...

My Nexus 5 isn't working with mirrorlink, but it's working fine with smartlink.

The main problem with smartlink is, for the moment, that if you lose connection, google maps will not be able do to a new search... it's a little pain in the A**. What do you think ? = / And the Amundsen GPS is pretty expensive...

My moto g 4g has lollipop 5.1, doesn't work with smartlink

@domhnall: Then, I beg you pardon :)

So, this is really problematic.... the smartlink was on the paper the mirrorlink problem killer !
I wanted to buy the car today or tommorow, and I still heasitate with Ford Fiesta with GPS... ^^

It's not a skoda issue, this is the solution all companies will be using.

Hi Puntable,

Think I'd ignore the compatibilitylist.skoda-auto.com site - it just confuses matters further and makes you spend more money on phones that don't actually work!

I tried an Galaxy S6 (although not Edge) - no good as others have reported. Says connected but blank screen on the Bolero.

Also not working despite having Mirrorlink:

Samsung Galaxy S5, S5 mini, Note 4

HTC Desire 620, 820, One M9

Unreliable:

Sony Xperia Z3/Z3 Compact (connects but screen doesn't update in sync with phone)

Working (for me, at the moment):

HTC One M8

After more phonecalls from skoda UK I have now been informed that my mirrorlink will work if I buy sygic.

Can anyone confirm this for me? I suggested that sygic is not a platform to allow the other apps to work also such as auepo or parkopedia etc and since the s6 has the phone itself listed as a mirrorlink app then it should connect and not cancel the connection.

All I have ever seen on my mirrorlink is connection cancelled and mirrorlink error.

I feel like I'm going round in circles with this.

I got my new phone today (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) and ofcourse it not works lol. Same problem as with my Samsung Alpha. Tries to connect > Phone says "Connecting" > Lost connection / Connection cancelled > repeat > repeat.

Impressive they can not make it work with Samsung flagship model.

They are surely "Simply clever"

I see What Car mention the Fabia Mirrorlink problem on their news page as of yesterday.

http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/skoda-fabia-mirrorlink-problem/1358525

Unfortunately it just states facts and says the phone list is "restrictive" rather than the more accurate "appalingly limitied", Doesn't express an opinion upon how lame it is of Skoda to launch a car advertised as having the latest infortainment technology only for it be effectively obsolete within less than two months of the first cars being delivered to owners in the UK. Nor does it question the lack of detail from Skoda about the solution they are proposing

As WhatCar's Car of the Year endorsement of the Fabia at the UK launch was one of the contributing factors to my Fabia purchase and I suspect for other owners, I can only hope they (What Car) feel somewhat embarrased by the situation and many apply some little influence upon Skoda to do right by the inital adopters. I live in hope!

That's the info they gave me too. You are right that Sygic is just a certified Mirrorlink app, and in itself won't make the handset work with the car, just that it should be allowed to remotely display on the head unit whilst the vehicle is moving.

Don't spend your money on it - I couldn't get it to work on the Galaxy S6 with purchased Sygic.

Agree with other comment regarding the Sygic App, the wonderful truth speaking Kate from Skoda insisted that it would work and yes I listened and downloaded it to my Samsung S4 mini and insisted that if it did not work I would be reimbursed and you've got it waiting to be reimbursed although my dealership has informed me that there is a cheque winging its way to me. On another note was asked to go to my Dealership and collect my Garmin which I did today and could not believe the cheek as I was promised the model covering Europe and got the basic UK model I am assuming it is on its way back to where it came from, does Skoda just enjoy winding its customers up.
