Mirrorlink - update from Skoda UK 29/5/2015

Featured Replies

So next week I've been told to take my Samsung galaxy s5 into the dealer for them to try AGAIN! Don't know what they think has changed since last time :) I'm going to try to get them to supply me with a phone that will actually work. Has anyone got a phone that works perfectly with mirrorlink especially on the sat nav so I know what to ask for. Thanks

  • Hi all, First post here, but I did follow the mirrorlink topics here with great interest, as I'm also the "lucky" owner of a pre-w22 car (w20 ). First of all I can tell you that it's the exact same

  • I have today had a very positive half an hour phone conversation with one of the consumer Journalists from Auto Express, who are now pursuing the case with Skoda. From what I have told them of my own

  • Pictures all taken - Game on!   (Apparently some guys at Auto Express couldn't get Mirrorlink to work properly either) (Tehehe)

Next week I will get Android module for my Bolero. And then f..k MirrorLink.

Haha what do you mean by the Android module?

Same way as Pioneer and Garmin - connected between head and main unit. You switch to it by keep pressing down one of the keys. You can also connect to it AV source (e.g. TV tuner) and reverse camera.

Htc one m9 works fine on mine . Good luck with getting them to supply you a phone that works I tried and got no where . I sent them a breakdown of my costs in getting the phone to work with mirrorlink and got offered the Sat Nav or £115 cheque which I grudging accepted to put an end to this whole sorry saga .

Thanks Mick 50. Wish me luck!

Good luck , when I went to buy an m8 they had none left so they let me try m9 in the car which they said it was same software etc. I was very sceptical in until worked in my car .The only thingsI will say is that it is an ee phone and a full version of Sygic .hope that helps you .

Thanks for that, I'm with O2 via tesco mobile. I can take an early upgrade but it will cost me so I'm going to push skoda into paying it.

Will you keep us posted with our android module ? I'm interested by your solution :)

Sure I will... It's at the customs now and unfortunately I don't think I can get it today :( So be ready for the update next week.

That is the most interesting post I have read so far relating to the  Mirrorlink/Bolero problems. I have just sent a request to my local dealer, in the hope that they will agree to the same solution.

Do you have any details or part number for the Kenwood MIB Nav unit.     Thanks.

It's not possible to just update the system to have smartlink?

You know what, we hadn't thought of asking Skoda that!

It would be fair for all the MirrorLink "users". I don't know if smartlink is something special to add or not... Concerning Android auto, On the new Hyundai, you can install Android auto in your car using a USB key and downloading the software on their website in a registered area for Hyundai users. It's a 1 hour process... So it's probably not so complicated! (at least I saw that on a video yesterday).

For skodas having bolero and smartlink, Apple system and Android one are now included. Here smartlink cost in option around 115€

Hopefully if this link works, this will tell you all you need to know about the Kenwood MIB NAV.

It has been tested on the mk3 Fabia, but does not appear in the compatibility list, just so you know.

For those of you asking about just updating Mirrorlink to Smartlink, it CANNOT be done, as it requires extra hardware apparently, it's not just a software problem, or so Skoda say.

Thanks, Couldn't get the link to work but I have now seen VW Dealer advert (On Ebay)  for this Kenwood Nav upgrade for VW's and the head unit appears to be the same as Bolero.

Bolero is not affected at all, the head unit stays exactly the same.

All you get is a couple of black boxes that plug-and-play into Bolero.

You then hold down the Media button for a second or so, to access the Kenwood (Garmin) Sat Nav.

confirmation that it is only a download for Hyundai's here http://www.planethyundai.com/blog/download-android-auto-in-your-2015-hyundai-sonata/,

currently only on the Sonata, but apparently going to make the infotainment unit available to all models

so are VAG telling porkies?

It could be that the required hardware was installed, but that they needed more time with the software? Right now we can only guess because you can't find any documentation. Just get some guy to open op a smartlink unit ;)

Does anyone have any idea whether this option works (and is therefore in theory applicable to) on the Yeti Bolero? Mine, being pre wk22, gives the dreaded "Mirrorlink - You can activate the function by means of an activation code"....

My latest update from VwFS.

Since your phone that you had when you bought the car wasn't on the compatibility list... I'm afraid it's just tough luck. Even though there was two compatibility lists that have since changed and I cannot tell you why all the phones you have tried will not get the system working. Please accept this fob off as this is what Kate at skoda has told me to tell you. I suggest you take the Garmon and feel lucky we even offered you anything!!

Hi, I am new to this thread, and read your posts with interest.

Yesterday I picked up my new Fabia SE from the dealer expecting Smartlink. The car was already at the dealers when I saw it last Monday, the brochure said that Smartlink was included as standard especially as it was the end of July when I was buying the car - how wrong I was. I went back to the dealer later in the day saying that I could not get it to work, the first response was that have you checked the phone compatibility as per the web page given in the brochure, obviously the IPhone5 is not compatible with Mirrorlink hence the need for Smartlink. The salesman admitted not knowing about the technical aspects, and another more 'tetchy' salesman tried to connect my phone with no luck. His response was when are you due an upgrade!! I mentioned about the pre/post Week 22 production and they had no idea what I was talking about. In fact I asked when it was produced, they did not know or even how to find out from the VIN. Again not terribly good customer service or after salesman service!!

You don't expect to have to deal with this with what is a new car with the specifications stated in a brochure, on line, etc

I read Kevrs16's post about the Kenwood, has anyone else managed to get that offered by their dealers?

It is a possible option if Samrtlink is not available? How do people think this will affect the resale of the car by not having Smartlink?
