Isn't cruise control great

Featured Replies

My old F**d had much better controls - on the front of the steering wheel

Mine are steering wheel mounted - lovely :D

Tsk! :D

Button on end - set (when no speed set) and decrease

Button on front - push towards steering column to deselect' date=' push further until it clicks to turn off cruise altogether. Pull away from steering wheel to resume, and to increase speed. As with my old F**d, individual presses of the + and - result in 1mph increments. Press and hold for continuous acceleration/deceleration.

K gave me a brief tutorial, but neglected to mention I could turn it off. Obviously doesn't want me to, and I doubt I will actually bother to turn it off. Never seen cruise control on the steering wheel though, but then I've never driven a ford good enough to have it on. (maybe that should read, "I've never driven a good Ford" ? ;):D

It's kinda fun though when the road is empty and you just hold it on 'increase' to see how fast it will pick up  (sad I know :P )

:o I did this on the M1 - It touched 1.2 bar. Felt quite nippy

Hi

What part are needed for the conversion and is it a big job I have a fabia vRS

:D

Just love it. Like being able to speed up/down on the stalk - never knew they did that. After eighteen months of having a cruise stalk its finally working - thanks I believe' date=' to the fact my car's insides are vRS.

Took my interior wiring loom out the PD100, for K to cannibalise the cruise loom fitted SO long ago (was funny to see him battling with it to get all the wires he needed, :D - I'd forgotten all the gear was in it after the conversion, and nearly sold the whole loom. :o But now, a quick reinstall and it worked 2nd time of trying - bloody thing had to have the battery disconnected to get it to read it.:rofl:

So now I'm hoping for a slightly better mpg on my home Sunday night - It did pretty well coming back to Leicester down the A49?/M1/A46.[/quote']

Don't you mean Column ????

Big K done mine, and I'm well pleased. :handshke: I'm getting 60+ miles more to the tankfull

But then, when I get fed up with trying to beat my last record ,,,,,,,,,, things may well change !!!!! :drivesaf:

Yes OK I mean column. Sheesh!

Its not a big job really. He did mine in 1 hour and it was more or less a 95% job, as I'd already removed the glovebox and some trim, and I did "little easy bits" like feed the infamous "white wire" :D through to the engine bay. Give big_k a shout on here.

Loads of info about it on here or you could ask someone to do it for you.

To clarify, I KNOW HOW THE SWITCH WORKS, I just find it unergonomic to use the deselect function.
Try placing 2 fingers under the stalk and switching off with your thumb. It is much easier - and more ergonomically friendly - than it sounds. :)

I find the cruise control stalk a doddle to use. Never accidentally triggered high beam either.

I normally use the stalk to turn off cruise, but find it smoother to match the revs on the gas too... seamless.

Hi

The Fabia cruise is easy enough to use, I just prod the end button when I am at the speed I want to be travelling. Tiniest tap on the brakes to switch it off again, or ease the throttle and cancel it with ball of foot on brake or switch on stalk to smooth out the off transition.

The Layout is a bit fiddly compared with the Omega. On this, you get two switches on the flat end of the indicator stalk. The upper switch is a rocker with one sticky out bump at one end and one sunken dimple at the other. Press the bump to set current speed, further presses add 1.2mph to the speed, press and hold to accelerate continuously. Press dimple to reduce speed in 1.2mph increments, or press and hold to reduce speed continuously. Press lower line textured switch to disengage system. Press dimple to resume previously set speed. Fun in auto when you have been cruising at a good pace, then hit the resume button from 35mph or so. Really simple, never need to take your eyes off the road to work it, even on first use.

Chris

use i lot and dont have any problems with it - has a great effect on economy.

BUT

It does prove what an annoying bunch of t1ts other road users are - - the ones that keep going past then slowing down  i always used to think part of that problem was me gently accelerating after they pass but now its proved that my speeds constant and they DO come past and slow down in front.... WHY???

I have.... :D:o

Also found that if I use the spped up function on the motorway it uses full boost - 1.5bar of boost using just a stalk.

glad your happy with it j

as a pig in mucky brown smelly stuff. Not sure I've seen mpg saving yet, but my dodgy right ankle appreciates it on long journies. I turned it on, on my trip back to Devon, at junction 9 on the M5 - I didn't turn it off until about 150 miles later, after the M5 had actually finished and I was within 5 miles of home. Just a little slowing down/speeding up needed at times. :D
