What did you do to your bike today?

Order the tail tidy, half normal price so hope is OK, looks OK on Amazon.  Leathers will arrive Monday apparently, hopefully the right size, bit of a guess.  99 in one direction, quick up and back whilst in the running in period, first service tomorrow and a recall apparently.

Ordered leathers online? Hope they fit, but that is quite a guessing game!

Recall? What for?

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Indeed a bit of Russian Roulette.  Order XXXL which I am hoping is EU/UK size ie about 40 inch waste, sometimes have by thermals on underneath, and the jacket should be around 48 inch, again a bit of room for me to wear thermal top and maybe another layer of a shirt or something.  Hope it is not US size as that is around 54" Jacket and 44" trousers which will be way too big.   Think it is coming out of Europe somewhere though most these items are made in Pakistan or near by.  If one of the two pieces fit OK I will be happy.

This R3 recall is a double one for the lower part of the ignition switch and the vibration mount of the back end of the fuel tank I gather.  Oil and Clutch plate was done whilst dealer had in stock.  Always in two minds ie great it is a thorough system, second flip side is whether there is a prevailing issue with it being made in Indonesia rather than Japan.  I tend towards the first theory.  Beauty of it being under warranty is it is not my problem and if I can time the recall with the service then great.

Hoping bike comes back more willing and able for a good thrashing and looking forward to it spending much more time between 10k and 14K revs !

I think your Russian roulette maybe on the what you buying rather than the fitting of it. Never heard of the brand before and looking them up they are German retailer with everything on permanent rock bottom discount.  At those prices the materials are going to be budget with very little if nay testing. The stitching shows poor workmanship and there are lot of panels in those so would expect to see it fall apart before it offered any real protection in a slide.

You're also buying from a retailer that specialises in blouses and traditional German women wear. It wouldn't inspire me with much confidence if I was to take a spill.

Took a day off and went for a mooch around North Wales, a brew at the ponderosa and then about turn and back down the A494 / A5104 then turned back in around some of the backroads of Chester, did about 160 miles on the R nine T, nice to feel the chilled air in my face :)

Not today, but saw a couple of LED related posts, I've fitted a H4 LED to my R nine T, it's Luxeon emitters and has just a heatsink, no fan. Heat build up in the headlight bowl of the R nine T has not been a problem at all. I reversed the heatsink, and used some CPU Thermal paste when refitting the heatsink.

I've got the same Luxeon LED Setup for the Twin H7 Main Beams in the K1600, that has a Dynamic HID for dip, and these are working really well. They mirror the layout of a traditional bulb filament and so there are no dark spots.

I've got a H4 left over if anyone want's to make me an offer :) They are CANBUS friendly.

This is the kit I fitted http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182449459475?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Fitted the BMW adjustable footrests and controls made by Gilles.

I predict no performance difference but they do look tidy

Guess I will find out Monday.   Lomoko have about 40 lines of clothing on Amazon and the German retailer looks like they are doing a TK Maxx as it is mainly the large sizes left so at worst it might be just a bit of street wear acquired (jacket not the pants).  Will check the labels for TUV etc.  Usually found the Amazon tend to deal with reputable companies and I still have not got the nerve to trust ebay for much which is a shame as I do need so wing mirror extenders and I can't find them anywhere else but on ebay at the moment.

Hope they turn out ok but give them a thorough inspection before putting your trust in them. Leathers can be replaced but skin grafts look crap.

Be be careful in your trust in Amazon. Third party sellers aren't checked out as well as they used to be. I've seen items that have been too cheap and held off buying only to see others never receive the goods and then have claim back through Amazon which takes a long while to get the money back. Plenty of others hiding their true location so place an order only for it to take a month to arrive from China. If not fulfilled by Amazon I tend to avoid now.

Lol lol, for your mirror extenders contact this guy on Amazon. I've used his extenders on various bikes and they've always been really good but the bolt is generic so you may need trim them down.

Not so simple for an R3, or R1, R6 etc, as they need shaped billets to extend the mirrors rather than threaded male/female stud/outer threaded tubes.  Still looks a bit naff, you can get electric blue ones which look much better IMO.  Just ordered some blanking plates for them which I will either use to act a building blocks or just to do without the mirrors for a while and just do the turn head.

Or go the whole hog an integrate mirror and indicator which Kiwav do (and blank off the standard indicators)..........

Integrated indicators look better.

Gone back to the stock cans on the R Nine T, they are Akrapovic anyway, added some Rizoma tips and ditched the noise control flapper valve and baffles and a new Z8 rear tyre, it's been a busy 24hours

Also got these on the K1600 as well

Leathers arrived today, two days earlier than originally notified.   Size is absolutely perfect for both jacket and trousers and connecting zips good quality.  Leather I would say is more around the 1mm thickness rather than 1.2mm mentioned in the UK government leaflet about.  Plating, I would guess, is PVC rather than Kevlar but overall very pleased. Stitching looks

good.  Knee sliders I have removed for now,

Probably got it early as I had a portable washer to be delivered so they bundled the two items together.  A plus is I can actually see what a bit more in the mirrors wearing the leathers as opposed to the weather suit !

Having converted my 2001 47k miles America to belt drive a year ago I have just taken off the rear pulley to be measured to change it from a 65 to a 60 tooth rear pulley. The 65 tooth pulley put the America back to original gearing but I like the longer gearing that my 902 conversion (17 to a 19 tooth front sprocket at the time) gave me. Going to take about eight weeks for it to be put into the production run as it is a one off.

(Wednesday)

Ran out of petrol :D

Although in my defence, my fuel gauge doesn't work. Luckily I realised what I'd done when it first coughed, so I feathered it into the next garage. Was a long 2 miles at 15mph!

(Yesterday)

Used to to brighten up the prospect of a 100 mile round trip to a boring training course. Decided a 125cc scooter ain't the best thing to go over the Wolds on on a windy day, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

(Today)

Realised I'd done about 2500-3000 miles on it since I bought it.... ordered a service kit.

It could have been worse. On the way to pick up my new bike I ran out fuel on the motorway. Luckily I managed to freewheel it to the start of the slip road. Unluckily it was a mile up hill walk to the petrol station on a red hot day, I was drenched in sweat by the time I reached it.

Glad I didn't do that, CVT doesn't really do freewheeling!

I take it you were trading it in n didnt wanna pay for a drop of extra fuel? :D:D

I am not sure what I need to do to be noticed on the bike after two vehicles pulling out on me on Friday taking the R3 for its first service.

Firstly a woman in a Discovery pulled out as if I was not there, luckily there was a cycle lane to dive in to (usually curse the cycle lane but not today.

Then a large taxi did similar on a round about about 100 yards further down the road, he did apologies though as he got bulked on the roundabout.

Must get a louder horn, and a camera set up.

Ah dear.

Maybe some of those small but bright bullet style lights tooked behind the fairing. Might catch their eye?
