What did you do to your bike today?

Featured Replies

Oy don't knock the Old Gits!  We still have the wherewithall to get out there on the bikes and reap the benefits of all those years of experience.  I know some day I will no longer be able to ride but hopefully at 62 that is a long time off yet and I am adamant that until that time comes I shall do as much as possible on the bike.  We are planning a touring break in The Lakes in July and I never take the car if I have chance to ride the bike so I am one happy Old Git.

Don't worry Kev the weeks will soon pass by and you will be like a kid at Chrismas.

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Chris. I am with you on the old git view of the world. I could have driven down south with music playing and cruise set. I chose to ride the bike. I recall reading an article a couple of years ago that explained the intense thought processes involved in riding a bike properly. is: riding to the system. It argued that it was a very healthy brain exercise.

My wife understands why I still like riding, which is always helpful too.

It's just the buzz though isn't it. Hard to explain if you don't ride.

Funeral run done!

A good 40 odd bikes. Caused a good queue around Buxton. Bikers are every junction and roundabout blocking them off. Then over the Cat and Fiddle. Stretched over a good distance.

The Rev was a biker. Came out of the church. Jumped on his Honda Deauville and sat there redlining it, getting everybody to join in revving :D. I see why hes the Rev now!

A good send off. Family very thankful. Well organised and a job well done.

Rode back from Plymouth today...........aghast at the number of drivers on their mobiles.

On one stretch of the M5 despite my early signalling to move from lane one to lane two, the approaching Mercedes gave no suggestion of moving across so I stayed in lane one. As the driver reached me she hurriedly swung right. That's when I saw her tip tapping on the phone. Scarily, she had not seen me at all until the last seconds. Idiot!

By way of inspiration, here's a quick pic of my father.

It was his first time on a track.

He was 74.

Yesterday I rode this

2016-05-27%2009.30.39.jpg

Didn't really like it. The ability to easily lift the front on the throttle at 100mph has a certain appeal until you lift the front on the throttle at 100mph.

Actually, that was my main complaint; the short wheelbase and light weight make it far too keen to pivot around the rear axle. From my limited experience of rocket ships, the Hayabusa and H2 are a lot better at going fast as the front wheel has more than a passing relationship with the tarmac.

Sounds just like my Tuono then. Ive had the front wheel up at 120.

Short wheelbase and it steers fast. Which i sort of like. Because the fun is at fairly reasonable speeds and its abit bonkers.

On the same stretch that ive had the wheel up at 120 on the T (which sort of made me back off a little) ive been a fair bit faster on the VFR, even though the T has loads more power and grunt. But i find the vfr less exciting because it just stayed planted.

Im not setting lap times or anything though, just having fun. So i quite like it.

If it was for racing, id of certainly bought the faired RSV instead.

Who needs a loony plumber?

I suspect you are only pulling the wheelies because you can't actually hear what is going on now you have your new ear plugs Oli! :D

Took it for a ride.

Enjoyed it apart from a couple of numpties trying to spoil it.

I'm sorry to say one of them was driving a Yeti. Left lane at a two lane roundabout, me in the right. He decides to straight line it as I'm right along side!

One of my 9 lives gone.

Life number two was despatched by a fiesta driving yoof in Kingston, who thought it OK to squeeze me into the kerb to let an ambulance on blues n twos get by.

Oh well, home with a hot cuppa and cake now, so life is good again.

Theyre certainly out and about today mate. Bank holiday weekend n'all.

Ive had a couple. Most annoying was a biker actually. Following him n he starts overtaking on solid white lines... Then he's overtaking with bikes coming the other way, then he's not going where its perfectly safe to (i was more thsn keeping up by overtaking in safe places, he was a hinderance actually). Then finally he did a U turn in the middle of the main road infront of me when the lights turned to red.

I only didnt go past him on the fast bit of road because he was so bloody unpredictable. I didnt know what was going to happen next :D.

And a few more idiots to add to that. Only nipped to the shop in the car.

Some asian bloke stood in the middle of the road shoutin at somebody. Wouldnt move though and just gave me a dirty look when i beeped.

Dno what it is with bank holidays. People just remove their brains somehow

Theyre probably very successful, intelligent people during the week.

Nearly wrote it and myself off.

Came around a left hand bend to find a Merc exactly in the middle of the road, for no reason. Just driving there.

Fortunatly i always leave loads in it so was able to flick it to the left, tighten up the corner and avoid it. Just.

Had i been one of these people that ride at 99% though, i think thatd of been it...

That is exactly why you approach every corner that you cannot see around thinking there is a dead cow in the middle of the road (or a Merc).  Well done Oli.

Possibly :D although theres a chance ive already used a few more than that :D.

It was lucky tbh.

I still cant get my head around what he/she was doing there. Gonna kill some bugger though if they carry on.

Reminds me of when Guildford basically shutdown due to a3 closure.

I was going along on of these roads where if both parties are careful then you can just about pass....the amount of times I had to basically drive into a hedge or a ditch was unbelievable

A friend of mine on another bike forum found a Merc the other day, sideways across the road.

Unfortunately for him it did a u turn right in front of him.

He hit it broadside and ended up with two broken wrists and a written off bike!
