VRS APR Stage 1 question

Featured Replies

Heya fellas !

I am looking to do a remap and so far I was impressed by APR around here in Israel.
The thing is, I've heard about a few guys who managed to demolish their turbo.. like make it explode to smithereens.

Now, I'm not sure as if they were driving around with almost no oil, or just red-lining it all day long, but it does make me scared :P

Any heavy footers here with an APR Stage 1 2014 Octavia vRS TSI DSG (5E if I'm correct, not the wagon) ?
I'm usually going on a heavy load trip twice a month and on a day to day basis I'm trying to "enjoy" my car in the city.. not killing it though, and obviously never reaching the high end RPM on daily basis.

Also, if you know how does Skoda look upon the remapping upon service/inspection/whatever..

I am asking here and not an APR official because I assume they might be biased since they are trying to sell me a product, even though there is the whole "Try it & if you didn't like, money back" thingy.. more like wondering if anyone got issues with it so far in the long run.

Thank you :) !

Read this re warranty, it applies to all VAG group cars - ultimately it will depend on your dealer but if you blow anything up after a remap then it is very unlkely that Skoda/dealer will cover the cost, and they will be high if a turbo explodes and sends bits directly into the cylinder head.

Interesting, that sure shad some light on the issue at hand.

Though I'm still waiting to hear opinions from people who tried the ECM upgrade and can share some info.

Thanks anyway !

APR provides a very powerful map, perhaps too powerful because there are widesprerad reports of turbo failures shortly after fitting.

I think they pushed things a little too far in pursuit of big numbers. If I was buying APR I would lean towards the low-torque map, which closer matches rival tunes for bhp and torque. Less power but safer.

Regarding warranty, it will be voided if VAG finds any evidence of tuning.

You may wanna take a look at DTUK's tuningbox if warranty is a concern

What he said, as by chance I may/or may not have investigated this route thoroughly   :notme:  ;)

Regarding warranty, lots of things can void it! Exceeding maximum revs, track days etc.....just depends on how good your dealer is and how Skoda what's to keep their customer happy.

I would suggest being in a possible hotter climate to make provisions to help cooling when under the extra load.

Hey guys, thank you for the help !
I was away for a while and couldn't "close" the topic..
I didn't see any "low power" remap on APR site, anyone has a link ?
And regarding the warrenty check with the DTUK's tuningbox, I'll check it out :)

I also can't believe I wrote ECM instead of ECU.. (ECM = Electronic Counter Measures which means I've been reading some military stuff again haha XD)

Hi,

I installed APR stage 1 on my Octavia VRS 2.0 TSI 6M just last year in December with 20.000km and now it is 42.000km No problem what so ever. It is worth every cent. Performance:

Here are few videos that I made. Since it is 6M I had difficulties in holding a steering wheel with one hand and camera with another, so I made in 4th & 6th gear only:

It gives a clue about the performance.

I had a stage 1 Apr on my mk1 and a revo on my mk2. No problems whatsoever...

84.000 km on OEM clutch & APR stage 1. No issue what so ever. Fuel consumption is like for like, mainly the same as stock. The difference in power, acceleration & top speed is huge. Just to give you an idea, here is one of my YT videos, comparing driving dynamics to BMW M550d EQ Performance 3.0 i6 TriTurbo 431HP & 810Nm. Would I do the same again? Yes, no doubt.

APR did one of the first maps for the MK7 golfs. It was at the time that the turbos were failing even on stock cars, Especially the IS20 but also the IS38 aswell.

APR have always seemed to have maps that achieve a few BHP more than many others, some say there are reasons for, and consequences of, that.

There were some reports that the map resulted in the turbo overspeeding resulting in failure although there was little recorded evidence that I saw to support that.

I think as the IS20 turbos have become more reliable with each revision the APR map 'problem' has mostly gone away too

Do it! Mine was done 2 weeks ago, good experience, effortless performance increase.
