Hey all, one more TSI 280 in Sweden :)

Planned delivery week 23!

My first new car and am so much looking forward to it!

Sweet.

Have too ask do, have you had a test drive in a 280? Cause I can't seem to find a single one in Sweden.

No mate, no test drive... I replied in your sedish thread also ;)

I only had a chance to drive the TDI 190 in both Täby and Sätra... Let's just say I loved the car as such, but can't really stand the sound of a diesel... And I wanted more punch!

Diesel is not for me at all, fuel consumption I couldn't care less about, and the awful sound... Although much less diesel sound than in the new Mazda6 I also drove... The fuel consumption will be less than my current car anyway and I don't even put fuel costs into my economy :P

This makes it so much more exciting to drive your own car for the first time, doesn't it :D

OK, my rather long car ownership history is also quite mixed; some quite cool, some too embarrassing to mention – though at least thankfully no Volvos :D

Among the best early on was probably the 1st gen Golf GTi, although its shortcomings soon became apparent on what was supposed to be a full lap of the Nürburgring where I cooked the brakes after the first few bends.

The one that will always stand out, however, is a 1974 Mazda RX4. Granted, it rusted in best 1970s fashion, handling was quite poor, it was not actually fast at all and engine life was short, but I could / can forgive all that for the unbeatable sweetness of rotary engines. Once driven, forever smitten: every and any piston engine will always be a bit of a disappointment after that. Sadly, they’re no longer feasible for use in road cars.

On the upside, I use rotary engines on race tracks to this day, where the 0-60 would comfortably beat that of my Superb 280 (see what I did there?).

The best YouTube example I’ve come across to reflect the music is in a …. boat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpxK2ub-qCs – who needs the Royal Philharmonic?

SWMBO (wife) used to run an RX8, & her youngest son is quite happy with his 2004 RX8 as his daily driver.

It's a nice car but my remapped EOS can keep up with it whilst burning less fuel............

Depends on what service regime you are on.

Depends on what service regime you are on.

Not sure, I just need it to have in the car in case I need a top up, not for a full service.

You need to know as that dictates the oil to use!

If you are on Annual Servicing then you need a 0w-30 fully synthetic oil that meets VW 502 00 / 505 00 standards such as Castrol EDGE TITANIUM 0W-30

If you are on condition based servicing you need a 5w-30 fully synthetic oil that meets VW 504 00 / VW 507 00 standards such as Castrol EDGE TITANIUM 5w-30 LL FST

Of course there are options other than Castrol, I've quoted them as an example look at somewhere like http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-337-cars.aspx for information on Castrol and other brands that meet these standards.

Irrespective of the intervals I always use the best spec I can... so in your case VW 507.00

Thanks everyone. I just ordered 1lt of Gulf Formula GVX 5W-30 (504.00 / 507.00)

With the 25% coupon and free delivery this weekend from Eurocarparts it cost £6.74 delivered.

Just for infrequent top-ups (don't even know if I will need any but I always like to have some oil in the car 'just in case') it will do until service time.

Anyone hear the sonic booms in Donny ?

Sorry I caught the cruise stalk ....

;-)

Have anyone seen a laptime from Nurburgring?

Would be fun to se any numbers of what the 280 is capable of. The cupra r with the same engine had the front wheel drive record for a while!

Oh dear, let’s not get carried away here.

By definition, virtually all road legal cars are rubbish on tracks; too heavy, too soft etc. etc. etc. And that includes 99% of so-called ‘sports cars’.

A Superb would also be just awful, if not frightening, to drive on any track, let alone that one. So why do it?

Besides, unless a car is modified with racing seats and a full racing harness into which the driver is strapped very, very firmly, it is impossible to drive well or with any confidence on a track. As a driver, you need to physically be part of the car, otherwise it’s hopeless.

None of this is exactly Superb territory.

The only reason to try it might be a Top Gear type stunt. Fine. Who’s paying? Because, apart from anything else, a single ‘hot’ lap of the Ring would take years off the life of the car.

Yes, I tried it in Golf GTi in the 70s: I was young and stupid and soon found out the car wasn’t capable of lasting even a quarter of a lap.

I'm not saying I would try or it would be record attempt. But if a stock Leon St estate with 280 hp is faster than the e61 bmw m5 round that track, I certainly think the numbers would be interesting to see.

I was with you until this bit. Artistic licence, I presume? :D I know what you were getting at but a properly warm car lapping the ring isn't going to lose 'years off its life', else half the people I know unfortunately possess cars that theoretically never made it out of the factory LOL.

I think I have to agree with you, many years ago I took our new 1990 2.0I Cavalier auto round the 'Ring as fast as I could (IE quite slow...) & it didn't suffer at all.

ISTR that I went faster on an Autobahn than on the long finishing straight!

Your Superb is probably nicer than most cars to drive too the 'Rng though?

DC

Doubt that very much. It has precious little to do with the power. The car is very long, soft and heavy: terrible properties on a track.

OK, hold my hands up: some artistic licence. But nevertheless a fair share of truth to emphasise the point that the strains on equipment not made for the purpose would be substantial.

That’s one reason I’d never ‘do the Ring’ in a road car now; not my own car anyway. The other is that it would be the opposite to rewarding because the car would feel so out of place; so useless in fact.

As some of us have discovered, the Superb 280 is ‘happiest’ storming along autobahns. That’s its natural habitat.

does anyone know if there are aftermarket exhaust options available? a quick google search didn't show up anything. Also, has anyone done a remap on these? I've seen racechip offer a product which increase torque by 100nm and power by 80hp

Here is a link to a thread I began looking at aftermarket exhausts for my 3.6.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/359476-performanceaftermarket-exhaust-website-links/?hl=%2Bgestec#entry4286184

I would assume these companies, and others, will be looking at developing systems for the 280? One would at least hope so.... ;)

Edited to add:

these chaps seem to offer quite a bit for the VAG 2.0Turbo tsi unit....quite a few tuning get companies providing for the SEAT cupra 2.0R and it's the same engine...

Don't know were you're from, but in Sweden there's a few company's that specializes in vag, Audi, seat and skoda. They have lots of fun parts to the 280. Check a website called stertman.se I think you can change the language too English on their website. I know it won't be the best way for you to get parts if you don't live in Sweden, but you can certainly see what's available to your car.

I'm in Australia. Nice upgrades on that site however I couldn't see any exhaust options, just downpipes. I had a look at some of the big tuners i.e MTM, ABT, APR etc and they don't offer exhaust options either, maybe it's too early.
