I hate how British cars are sold in vast arrays of drab grey, silver or dark blues/blacks. Booooring.

My sentiments exactly.

That's not what you said in the toilets last Friday. :( haha I'd love to change my username, but everyone knows me as Derv now! Wouldn't mind but I can't stand the bloody things, I was just driving one at the time I joined and couldn't think of anything original so just bunged in the first thing off the top of my head. Being honest I didn't expect to stay (I was looking something up), but you're a decent lot so I never got round to leaving. :D

I agree about the colours. I'd have loved some of the colours available on the Czech configurator! Not sure my wife would have agreed, mind... I like the ASBO orange Focus ST and the Race Blue VRS but my wife thinks they're 'mid-life crisis cars in mid-life crisis colours'...

Ordered mine in black metallic pearl.

Black rims and tinted windows.

But I really do like your suggestion about the focus St orange. That would be wicked. The green one that also was on the focus St would be cool. If I at any point should wrap it I would go for a flat gun metal grey.

CarBuyer published a video review of the 280 here. As the review opened and I saw '4x4' on the DSG lever I thought it'd be the 190, but no!

They seem to really love it, but moaned a bit about the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (as if anyone outside of company car buyers care about that). They also say the reversing camera and all round parking sensors with auto park are a must because the car's so big. Funny, as I manage perfectly well even in the city centre without any of those things! :D

A decent attempt other than that though.

Have you met old newbie2 ? Perhaps as we have the 280, 190 thread etc you could have an OAP's thread ????? :-D

< also dives for cover >

Oi you, respeck for yer elders, don't yer know?

OAP's don't rule, we just like SKI holidays / cars.............

U should peek at the VW R forum, they have an owners age list in the Golf 7 section & the ancients section (65+) has a few members,

more than they / I expected.

Enjoy your commute tomorrow, I'll still be in bed..

Ciao, DC

Is it possible that you can actually drive, rather than just steer?

I found that Superb is a little bit bigger than Superb 2, but to drive it's just like a slightly bigger Octavia.

The current Mondeo does feel larger than life though!

Only after my second or third double.  :cocktail:  :D

I agree the S3 is easy to accustom to, and 'a slightly bigger Octavia' is a very appropriate way to describe it.

I'm fairly young. 25+

(38 cough cough)

I have a huge interest in cars. Been racing cars for a while. Owned a drift car that I spent a lot of time on the track with. A Volvo 945 completely rebuilt. Around 450 bhp at the wheel. I have had a fleet of "normal" fun cars.

Saab 9-5 aero

Bmw 528 540 545 740

Golf gti golf r32

Sierra xr4

And a bunch of other cars,

can't remember them all.

But when I now got to that point when I wanted a new car with some punch, there was only 2 choices. Audi rs6 v10. But that would of been a used car. 2009 with 80000 km.

Or my other choice was the superb 280 brand new for the same money.

I thought it was a simple choice cause I always liked skoda. It completely different for what young guys in Sweden drive. And hopefully I will love the fact it is a "q-car"

This really became a long message with no points really. To end it with some sort of advice/opinions I will newer drive a bmw again. What a piece of crap that is.

You really don't need a "point" to post here, if you have a story to tell it's enough for us.....

We are but simple folk, grateful for the entertainment.........

As for your choice of cars, if a 280 Superb suits you, then enjoy it's performance & the revel in the ignorance of other drivers..

It is, after all, "Simply Clever." !

I think an Orange or Green would be really nice. I am annoyed by the colour choice and really tempted to get car wrapped.

I love the Disco Sport Orange - http://images.cdn.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/styles/gallery_slide/public/paris-194.jpg?itok=bhy_qzIf

Again people will say it's not a hot hatch but why can't I spec the car with all the Chrome blacked out? I can get an Octavia VRs with a black pack why not the 280 Superb?

I tried really hard to get a black line but it was impossible according to the dealer. So I have to order a black grill separate. I'm thinking about wrapping the trim around the doors and the roofbars with carbon fiber. Hopefully it will look good. Cause I really want a totally blacked out car.

Hmmm...why don't you just wait a month and then order superb sportline - there's your complete black pack.

Because the sportline will probably not be available on the 280. Also it will be based of an SE, not off the SE L or the L&K. Would have to drop a lot of money on extras to get it to L&K spec.

When I specced up an Octavia VRs with the extras I wanted to bring it in line with L&K Octavia, it cost a lot lot more than the L&K :(

Again I might be odd, but I want Sportline & L&K in one bundle!

There is a few reasons why.

Did not know the sportline was coming this year. Only seen a picture of it. The rims were on a few pictures in the brochure, so that's why I nagged so hard at the dealer to get them for me.

My car is not an LK. It's the Style model because I wanted the interior with leader and alcantara. Wouldn't have it any other way. But I then added more options then what is on the LK. I really do have ALL extras. The dealer here in Sweden told me that I just bought the most expensive skoda ever sold.

Maybe stupid to lots of people (including me)

But my sister suddenly died a few days earlier in a brain aneurysm. That was a wake up call for me. If i didn't get a new car now, maybe I'll never get one. This could of happened to me, so I thought f**k it, I'm gonna spec it exactly the way I want to!

So sorry for you, I lost my lovely wife suddenly a while ago and despite being totally heartbroken I am treating myself to a few things as you never know what's round the corner!

Bloody he'll guys I'm so sorry to hear of you bad times :-(

That's nice of you, thank you.

Yes, I feel for you. Just yesterday my sisters 59 yo husband died while he was at chiropractic due to some backpain. Without any warning he suffered some attack and nothing could be done. He didn't have any known illnesses and was in very good physical condition. So it could happen to anyone, anytime.

But back to cars. Yes, of course I don't know in detail Skoda policy in UK or other countries than my own (Finland), but would't it be very odd that Skoda brings a "sporty trim level" (which you cannot get bundled with two basic engines) but wouldn't offer it with the most powerful engine? Doesn't make any sense and it cannot be so. Why would you hpoom think that?

I do understand the cost issue, but I think that at the moment no-one here really knows what the sport line will be based on, or? For sure it won't be as comprehensive as L&K, but atleast in here it will be quite well equipped (have some preliminary info from Skoda importer). And we are talking about quite expensive cars here, so a few extras shouldn't really matter (if it makes it any easier, cars are way more expensive up here). I'm coming from Audi and all Skoda options are soooo cheap

Because of what happened to my sister I needed to get myself something that always been out of reach. The has always been the rs6 but even when I'm stretching my budget so hard you could cut wood with it, it would still be a used car. And I'm not really for spending a **** load of money on something used!

I always liked skoda just because it's different. Everybody else thinks you need an a6 or a 520 to have a big estate. Same people think you need a s6 or a 535 to have a big estate with some punch. Well, I can't wait to leave all those behind me. It's not what you drive, it's how you drive!!!

Bloody he'll guys I'm so sorry to hear of you bad times :-(

Me too, my condolences guys. :( I hope you enjoy your car M4NDOO, it'll be great with all the options!

Will upload lots of pictures as soon as I get my hands on it. I'm super stoked about it. My selling point to the lady at home was that it parallel park by itself. SOLD! And she was actually the one who decided color. Here car is black. Here clothes are black. And so on. Therefore the superb is black. I actually were more into a white car. But now when some time has past and I've given it some more thought, black is the way to go. Now I'm happy I let her decide. What's left now is to order some parts from SS. If I'm having a black car it need to be totally black. So all Crome bit have to go. Then I'm done. And thanks for all condolences. Sorry for my grammar and some miss spelling. I'm a swede doing my best.

Condolences.

It's been 11+ years now since my 1st wife passed away, & it was a real wake-up call.

I've not gone mad, or over-spending crazy since then, but I did buy some toys that I wanted rather than worry about keeping the money safe for the rainy day.

It's already raining!

Thank you, its been over 20 months but believe me its gets no better.....just get used to it more! our 2 little Shih-Tzu's have been a great comfort to me.

I still use her Beetle she had from new, Tried an M135i this time last year but got rid after 6 months, brilliant engine, but it just wasn't me! Looking forward to the Superb when I do eventually get it....never had a car anywhere near that size before!....I don't need it, but I want it!
