Never heard this phrase (maybe a Swedish thing...?) love it! Right up there with the Polish 'not my circus, not my monkey' . Will be using that one!

It's actually not a phrase we use in Sweden.

I just made that up cause I couldn't remember what you normally say in English when you're about to spend every penny, nickel and dime you have!

Just a couple of ideas for you in future.

Thank you, its been over 20 months but believe me its gets no better.....just get used to it more! our 2 little Shih-Tzu's have been a great comfort to me.

I still use her Beetle she had from new, Tried an M135i this time last year but got rid after 6 months, brilliant engine, but it just wasn't me! Looking forward to the Superb when I do eventually get it....never had a car anywhere near that size before!....I don't need it, but I want it!,

I used to "need" a Mondeo (or similar) Estate, to carry ourselves, an electric scooter, a normal manual wheelchair, holiday luggage & a small dog.

After she passed away I bought a 6-year old Mondeo Hatchback as a runaround, but once I'd managed to sort-out my financial situation that went to be replaced by another Mondeo V6 Wagon!

Ran that for 3 years & swapped for yet another Mondy Wagon 3.0 litre V6 & kept that for 6 years!

Did I really need them, no although they came in handy to carry miniature railway engines at times.

But, I liked driving them, so even though the real need for another estate car in my life has long gone, I just bought what I wanted to drive & could afford.

I also bought my 1st Skoda in 2011, to save money on fuel.....Man maths! Replaced that with my current Superb whilst still keeping the Mondy, (just in case we needed to move furniture,) which we did, but since we no longer need a wagon, that got swapped for my VW EOS! Another example of choosing what you want, rather than what you need...........

So, after a lot of waffle, my point is that you only live once & if a new Superb 280 is going to make you a happier person, then go for it!

Happy Skodaing. DC

I whittled it down to the Superb estate, Mustang and Mazda CX5....I really like the CX5 but not impressed with the anaemic 2wd petrol engine (I don't do diesel!!), Mustang had too many things I was uncertain with, mainly the year long wait for one...then the Superb 280 4x4 came out and it floated my boat instantly....trouble is....I know my wife would be saying "your NOT getting a bloody Skoda"....so sorry.

I hope I will get on with it, especially the size....my previous biggest car was an MG Montego saloon in 1990!!, though I quite like the look of the Kodiaq (only if they put the 280 petrol and 4wd in it though!).

You'll manage quite well, as I've said before, the S3 feels like a "slightly bigger Octy 3", & I'm being serious.

SWMBO & I did a test drive back in February, (SE-L 150 Combi) & her only complaint was that it wasn't quick enough.....

(She was running a remapped Octy 2FL vRS at that time, so I can understand her reasons...)

Placing it in traffic & parking seems to be quite simple, probably helped by it's fairly obvious extremities, reasonable width & parking sensors.

My only groan is, when compared to the Superb 2 & the Octy2 FL, the door mirrors are tiny, both on the Superb & Octy 3's.

Cost saving or lower drag perhaps, but it does mean that precise mirror adjustment is essential.

Still, your L&K will have memory mirrors & drivers seat so once you've found the correct setting for you, just store them in the drivers seat memory.

As for wives & Skoda's, wife no. 1 prefered a largish car (for ease of access to the front passenger seat, lifting her from wheelchair into the car required

big doors that open wide) but had no anti-Skoda prejudices, wife no. 2 is something of a convert, & would be very pleased for me to be driving a another Superb.

Only problem, we both like my current car & feel that it's not dying just yet!

But, she can't make herself like Octy 3, doesn't know exactly why, but it's just not for her.

Buying cars isn't just about the practicalities, they are emotional decisions, IMVHO.

Cheers, DC

I've had my fair share of of cars.

This is a copy of all my previously owned cars that's specified on a page called garaget.org

It's a webpage for petrolheads in Sweden.

But this will be my first brand new car.

M4NDOO:

Such a large proportion of Volvos might normally be considered rather worrying, but can, I suppose, be forgiven by you being Swedish.

I don’t know what a VW Passat 4m R-Line is, but presume your new Superb 280 will easily beat the kalsonger off it in virtually all respects.

There are some proper 'petrol head' cars in that list M4NDOO, you're in good company!

Once owned a purple GT6 with green tinted windows. Loved it.

The Passat is just a 170 bhp diesel. So yes, the superb will be a much quicker car!

GT6?

I'm not sure what exactly that is. I think we call some cars by different name depending what country you live in. Like we say Opel, you say Holden.

Close... We say Vauxhall, it's the Australians who say Holden. ;)

Sorry I actually knew that. Will blame it on a temporary brain meltdown!

I think that the current Passat 4 MR-line is an AWD 240ps Bi-Turbo 2.0 Diesel.............................

But what is a GT6

According to Google (and then Wiki), it's this. I'm sad to say I had to look it up. In my defence, I'm rather younger than it...

I would never figure that one.

But now that I've seen it I know I heard something about it before. But I can certainly see why it's a true petrolheads kind of a car!

Triumph GT6 M4NDOO. 2lt straight 6. Quite a car back in the day.

Don't think Triumph ever was marketed in Sweden, so you hardly ever see one. Not even on classic meetings. But il guess there is a few private imports around here. I normally take pride in my knowledge of car manufacturers and models. But this one got me beaten!

Sorry...a bit off thread.....

Loved the look and sound of the GT6.....drove a Herald Vitesse drop head for a while with the same lump....lovely engine. Was it the same engine that found its way into the TR6?

Yes sorry for going off-topic. I had a Triumph Vitesse 2lt drop head too. Great car.

Don't mind if we are going off topic a bit. Would be fun to here your compere the superb with the best car you priviesly (sorry for the spelling) owned. The car that I've been most satisfied with so far was the Saab 9-5 aero I had a few years ago. Never had any problems with it. Nice extras. Wonderful gearbox. It had 250 bhp but it felt like a 300 bhp car. Really nice engine. Super nice handling for a front wheel drive. Seats that were perfect for long drives and still kept you firm when going fast on twisty roads. So if my superb (when it arrives) will be in the same class as the Saab, then I'll be super happy. And I have owned a few high end cars that was rubbish compared to the 9-5 aero!

OK, my rather long car ownership history is also quite mixed; some quite cool, some too embarrassing to mention – though at least thankfully no Volvos :D

Among the best early on was probably the 1st gen Golf GTi, although its shortcomings soon became apparent on what was supposed to be a full lap of the Nürburgring where I cooked the brakes after the first few bends.

The one that will always stand out, however, is a 1974 Mazda RX4. Granted, it rusted in best 1970s fashion, handling was quite poor, it was not actually fast at all and engine life was short, but I could / can forgive all that for the unbeatable sweetness of rotary engines. Once driven, forever smitten: every and any piston engine will always be a bit of a disappointment after that. Sadly, they’re no longer feasible for use in road cars.

On the upside, I use rotary engines on race tracks to this day, where the 0-60 would comfortably beat that of my Superb 280 (see what I did there?).

The best YouTube example I’ve come across to reflect the music is in a …. boat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpxK2ub-qCs – who needs the Royal Philharmonic?
