Anyone hear the sonic booms in Donny ?

Sorry I caught the cruise stalk ....

;-)

Just turned the key in the ignition on my S2 when the first sonic boom happened. First thought was I'd blown the engine, then the second sonic bang shook the whole car. Sleepy Aberford.....not tonight.

does anyone know if there are aftermarket exhaust options available? a quick google search didn't show up anything. Also, has anyone done a remap on these? I've seen racechip offer a product which increase torque by 100nm and power by 80hp

Lots of remap options on the 280 engine, 340 bhp and a 150Nm / 100lbft torque increase is standard.

Most cannot unlock the latest ecu on the superb only the ones from early last year. Anyone confirm to you the opposite? Any specific links please? Thank you!

I don't think I'm bothered about a remap. Bloody thing is fast enough as it is... I would like to have a go in someone else's car though :-D

Agreed, would only consider it after the warranty is over.

I had my 140BHP Octavia Mk II remapped to 175 and it's fun for a while (especially on the way home the day it's done) but after a while you don't really notice the power. You do notice the increased insurance premiums and the number of insurers who won't touch you with a bargepole though.

Would like to know if anyone is applying the "Audi" VCDS mod to the 280 and reporting back. Tempted myself but have to hassle a very kind VCDS owner and would prefer not to hassle the kind soul for the third time if it wasnt any good. I see the lowly 190's owners seem to like it ;) but is it OK for us that bought a proper engine :D (just joking) but would genuinely like to know because I do think there can be a bit of a flat spot on the 280 which goes from sedate to hold onto your pants.

Interesting, we still enjoy both of our remapped cars, better economy, easier to drive & & a little perkier as well.

Our insurers were/are reasonable, premiums increased by £50+ PA which seems reasonable.

Both cars are 2.0 TSi's, that gained 40 to 50 ps + a lot more torque, with fatter power & torque curves, maybe the petrols respond to remapping better than the diesels?

I don't get it.

If you remapped your car and added a few more hp:s, do you have to pay more for your car insurance?

Yes, as per my earlier post, we were charged approx £50 more per car per year.

How do the insurance companies know you upgraded the car? Why just don't keep quiet about it?

Because when DC slips up and runs into a Bentley the insurance company 'would' find out and DC would be considerably worse off ..

Don't hesitate to ask, L  :sun:. Same time, same place, whenever you're ready!

I saw Gizmo's "Audi" post and admit I was somewhat sceptical, but thought I'd give it a try.

My feedback: if you've got a 280 and VCDS (or access to it) you owe it to yourself to do it.

It's changed the car's deportment at urban speeds (sub-60 mph), resulting in a much more responsive beast.

I also switched it back to the "Seat/Skoda/Volkswagen" setting and did the same route in reverse, if only to prove to myself that I was't just imagining it.

I read in the VCDS thread that someone with an ACT didn't notice any difference, so I'm guessing more power results in a more significant change.

Edit: I should add my thanks to Shahoff for finding it and Gizmo for posting.

Ok, we don't have that problem in Sweden. Insurance companies don't care if we remapped the car. If it goes through the mot then it's fine. Only when you're car haven't passed an mot , then your in trouble!

Do have a question about all the things you change with vcds. I get that you could do good things with it and even change the way a car perform. But doesn't it screw up the warranty?

No, it doesn't. You can even ask for some of these modifications to be done by the dealership - assuming [a] you know what to ask for and the dealership has the wherewithal.***

Unlike a remap, where you are completely reprogramming or replacing the Engine Management Control Unit, with VCDS you are simply enabling/disabling pre-existing functions, akin to flicking electronic switches.

What you will do is exonerate the manufacturer from liability. Example|: cause injury because you disabled the remote boot alarm with VCDS then that's entirely down to you, not Skoda.

*** I asked the dealership to enable remote closing of the electric rear hatch using the interior switch. They said it was possible but not permitted by Skoda as it was considered a safety issue, thus making Skoda liable if they (or their agent) changed it.

We told them what we wanted to do, & asked what it would cost us.

We were happy with their charges & paid the money.

Why, it means the car is still insured, which is a good thing....

We are very honest peeps...........

No, I assumed same ecu as the 2015MY 280 engine as used in the cupra 280. I had mine done, shark do it, REVO do it, Apr I'm sure also.

Our country's are very different in that point. We are aloved to upgrade a cars performance by a few Procent. But if you tune a car from 150 bhp to 400bhp you have to do a ****load of work the get a new registration and mot.

I don't get it.

I didn't with Greenlight, made no difference at all with both my vrs petrol octy ant the cupra.

No chance of getting used to the remapped cupra, it was bonkers.

So if a get a hold of someone with vcds knowledge in Sweden, what are the changes you recommend to do. Been a lot of talk about changing the throttle and turning off start/stop. Anything else? My car is a 280 tsi

what are the changes you recommend to do.

Personal choices. See Gizmo's list.

I won't enable/disable/alter functions just "because I can" but rather "do I have a need or desire for it?".

Thus the only adaptation I would recommend, and only because of my 280 experience, is the throttle response.

It's a great car but with the default setting you need to give the accelerator pedal a bit of oomph to get the engine to respond.

To introduce anthropomorphism it feels like you telling the car "Okay, I'm finished dawdling, now let's go".

After the change it's the car that is now asking "Why are we dawdling? Let's go".

APR cannot do the superb 280 yet, a friend asked 2 weeks ago. Not sure about the rest but they don't list it on the website. I wish someone does it and measure the differences in acceleration :)

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the brakes/disks from the Golf R are larger/better and, if yes, would they fit the 280?
