Yeah that's a good looking motor .... I didn't like hatch when it was first released but it has grown on me.

We don't want to drive around in "sport / race" all the time, but SWMBO would like the throttle response to be a little sharper, ( dainty feet....),

could you tweak our new Golf as well?

I'd also like to loose or reduce the Soundaktor racket if that's possible, the car is noisy enough as it is with artificial engine noise! (IMVHO, of course...)

Folkstone isn't too far for us, we need to get some miles on the car & it's an excuse for a trip to the seaside!

TIA, DC.

Yes that will be no problem, I can do this weekend if you are free.

Better continue this via PM

Thanks for the offer, but I needed to make an attempt t blanking out the plates.

Warwickshire is a long way from here, especially if we brought the fleet with us................

Cute review.....got the brolly thing wrong though! and no....I haven't seen Batman Vs Superman!!!!!

Yeah as if Batman would stand a chance against Superman ... STOOPID film !

Yes, all very well, but I find it difficult to look past the sloppy writing and reporting.

That said, he has certainly picked out an interesting ‘competitor’ (or did the Skoda marketing dept. quietly feed him that one, too?).

Let pictures doing the talking then, stumbled across this:

I haven't changed the exhaust flap as I'm yet to be convinced it's advisable. Those exhaust flaps, being located in the tailpipe, can serve two purposes - [a] adjust the engine note and  to help bring the catalytic convertor up to optimal operating temperature.

Thanks BillyJim, hadn't realised the catalytic converter point, might steer clear of that one for now!

In the driving mode options scree on our new Golf R, there is an "individual" mode, where you can tailor throttle response, ride comfort, steering feel, etc. to suit your own preferences.

Is this not available on a 280?

As per BillyJim's reply, the menu is there but you can't separate out the throttle response from other "Drive" characteristics. So switching to Sport brings to the same issue as before – you get the improved throttle response but also the other characteristics of Sport e.g. holding onto revs quite a lot.

Have found a mate with VCDS to make the throttle response change, will report back...

Got it.

I'm sure that VCDS can provide an improvement, please do publish the results as & when the work is done.

I'm still uncertain re. making the changes, currently it suits the running-in process quite well.

I'm quite used to a "long" throttle in the Superb, but it does suit the car, especially when chauffeuring passengers.

Our EOS has a very "perky" gas pedal, it's fun, but needs lighter shoes to drive it smoothly. Not really a winter car......

So, after being involved in the whole NCD debacle and losing my order with only 12 days off delivery I have decided that I will ditch the oil-burner route and join you 280PS guys.

Ready to push the button on an L&K 4x4 hatch.

Awesome ! Well done mate :-) You wont regret it believe me .... ( I hope ) ...

You won't regret it, possibly the best car overall I ever owned after 25 years and 15 cars (including a BMW 535D, Impreza JDM, ST220, Accord type-R and many more, both European and Japanese special editions).

Thanks Nick & Michael.

Better luck this time I hope.

14 weeks for delivery so I'm holding back a week in order to get a 66 plate.

Excellent choice, sir! I'm sure you won't regret it. They're actually quite frugal engines provided you don't run them cold every time. I struggle to get my 220 under 30mpg around town and it mostly gets late 30s locally and 40 plus on short motorway trips. Fantastic engines! I wouldn't worry about that extra week though, transport delays will inevitably do that for you.

Cheers Derv, I'm a bit nervous TBH after such a let down.

My missus made the C4 Dispatches film highlighting the emissions scandal months before VW held their hands up so she's well happy I've gone petrolhead.

Just noticed this....good for you, decent engine this time around as well (haha) If you don't mind me asking, did you use another broker and/or get a decent discount?

Only had the car a week and first recall - for the Panoramic sunroof. As if I'm going to dangle my head or fingers in the sunroof whilst using the 'convenience closing' - I ask you. Of course I'll regret that remark when I read that someone has decapitated their passenger!

Seriously though, 350 mile trip over the weekend, and apart from lane assist giving me the heebie jeebies (since found out how to turn it off) , everything is as wonderful as I expected, with the oft-remarked shortage of cubby holes and storage being my only present gripe. Running in but have noticed that using Econ for non-urgent travel is improving economy , also my Green Score is 99% (humour me, I'm a pensioner).

Sorry lost the thread on this - I'm having trouble getting convenience closure to work on the sunroof (I.e. it won't do it!) even though I have reset it as per the manual. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I've just done a 240 mile round trip to Norfolk near Norwich, out on A roads via. Baldock in Hertfordshire as my mate had left his laptop at a customers and back via. A11/M11 and the MaxiDot is telling me an average of 37.1 mpg (On Tesco Momentum 99) now I know that the onboard computer can be optimistic but that will do me nicely :)

Does 99 make much difference?

I run the wife's 225bhp Audi TT on ordinary and it goes like stink.

Where I live its the same price as Sainsbury;s Super and they are less than a mile apart!

It may be a mental thing but the car does seem to give better fuel mileage don't notice anything performance wise as they go like a rocket anyway :)

Boom....I've joined the 280PS petrolheads.

Ordered L&K 4x4 hatch.

Fingers crossed this time :)
