Stolen! 66 reg Black Sportline Estate 280 PS

I've lurked on this forum many times in last 3 months as we bought our new car; Sportline 280 PS Black Magic and made various accessory purchases for it.  I almost posted several times, but was always able to find the info I needed -- e.g. around getting a spare tyre, and purchasing OEM 17" rims and winter tyres ready for our now on hold trip to Alps next month.

So I was really getting to love that car.   But a mere 2 months after purchasing it we woke up Wednesday morning to discover our house had been broken into during the night, and car keys and our car stolen. Nothing else taken so it was a very targeted crime.

So I'm posting now to say two things really:

1/ Please keep your keys secure. It seems this type of crime (breaking and entering to get car keys) is on the rise. Our keys were "out of sight" but that's not enough. Take them to bed with you.

2/ If by any chance anyone happens to see/hear anything that could help in recovering it please please direct message me. Reward offered if it leads to recovering the vehicle.

=> Distinctive marks are a white "Meadens" sticker on the boot door, and the fact is running 17" rather than 19" rims, mounted with Conti CrossClimate tyres.      Theft was in SW London.

- Enjoy your 280 while it's yours.

That's not good :-( Couple of things though ... I always set our house alarm at night so if anyone breaks in i'm going to know about it as are the neighbours.

Other thing is if someone wants to go to the trouble of breaking into my house to get the car keys then they are welcome to them. My family comes first. Let them get in and out as fast as possible I say.

Yes, quite agree.

I'll add, I intentionally didn't list out the various security measures that were defeated or otherwise failed in my case.  My point is that this type of crime is on the rise and the Superb 280 is very much a target vehicle for it, so be aware of it.

Just picked up my new car. Executive SEL with a few extras. Also has KESSY which I did not add as an option.

Very nice. Impressed so far?

I really like the colour; suits the lines of the Superb and the chrome trim

C'mon Penguin you've been on here long enough to recognise that Petrol Blue is the colour.

Aye but I’m still allowed to pay a compliment on said colour :)

Svend often posts pics of his freshly detailed petrol blue Superb and it always looks very nice.

It is very nice to drive. Going to take a bit of time to get used to the dsg but good so far. The paddles are a bit of fun too. Seat is comfortable but a little different to my old vrs, that said I sat in a new vrs which I believe is the same seat as the Sportline and the heat rest was a little too low and not adjustable so glad I did not go for that. I do like the colour and about the only colour I liked from the drab greys and silvers which were so boring.

Worry not, it'll cope.....

SWMBO's R has been fed with 95 ('cos that all there was available in the town) & it seems to be OK.

If we shop in a Tesco then I've tried I'll top-up with their 98 &  now a that M&S/BP have opened a station on the bypass,

I've tried their expensive 97 too, but not detected any real difference.

I think the worst I had to do was some 97. It's had one tank of Shell 99 and about 5 of Momentum. Momentum is so cheap by comparison lol. My record fill was 66.13 litres :D

FWIW for anyone that's not done any numbers. If you only get 28MPG on both regular (@ £1.18l) and on Momentum (@£1.23l). I don't usually see a 5p difference in the fuel at Tesco either to be fair.

10,000 miles of Regular costs £1,913.29.

10,000 miles of Momentum costs £1,994.36

That's £81 a year

If Momentum only gets you 1mpg more (29MPG), it's cost you £12. If it gets you 2MPG more (30MPG) its saved you £51.89.

15,000 miles of Regular costs £2,869.93

15,000 miles of Momentum costs £2,991.54

That's £121.61 per year.

If Momentum only gets 1mpg more (29MPG) its now cost you £18.45 a year. If it gets 2 more (30MPG) its saved you £77.83.

Yes I'm sad and have lots of spare time at work :D

I’ve tried everything from 95 to Shell Racing 100 (Germany); couldn’t tell a difference between any of them. So 95 it’s been for the best part of past year.

To be fair though, I didn’t do any comparison of fuel consumption – too tedious to be scientific about that.

PS: Not saying you're sad, DBT85...:D

Got her back from Extreme Gleam yesterday after a week. Tom couldn't believe how bad the paintwork was after just 5000 miles. Looked like the dealer had been skating on it and he thinks it had even been through an automated wash. Anyway, job done, kidney sold. Should now stay like this for a long time.

He also does spraying so come hibernation time my S2000 will go in as that needs at least 5 panels fixed lol.

Haha its ok. A man can do great things with a can of WD40, a handfull of cable ties, some gaffa tape and his spreadsheets.

I have a job with a loooot of spare time on my hands, and I do more mileage than most so I wanted to have a look see. With the difference being so small I'll just keep putting Momentum in.

I also keep a log of all the fuel I put in and mileage etc. Was more to see how this Steinbauer box will compare when it gets refitted at the end of the month.

Bodywork looks good. Be interesting to see how long it lasts etc since it was a fair bit to get done I seem to remember you saying.

Yeah me too.

Tom said that he's had cars come back in for other work where the owner had this done and hadn't washed the car for 9 months. Not only did it not look too dirty, what dirt there was came off very easily. We'll see.

On the up side, I don;t have to wax it or polish it.

What products/treatment was used?

Any (optional) need to top up protection with a quick detailing spray, or similar?

It was SIRAMIK DIAMAS PROFESSIONALI as the main product, but that also included sub layers of the APT protection. It's also had the glass and wheels done. I may have more details on the invoice when it arrives.

He suggested using a Siramik product every 6 months to keep it topped up which I think I can just about manage. I think he said a bottle is about £25 quid.

I feel your pain. I also live in SW London, well Sutton, and my Octy VRS was stolen, in exactly the same way, last September. I keep my keys in a Farady pouch, tucked away, so the ratbags can't use a signal amplifier to enter the car, with a faint background signal from the key.

I will be selling my Sportline 280 soon, so hopefully nobody will pinch it in the meantime.

I will keep my eyes open, just in case.

@Joth I'm really sorry to read that.  Did they snap the euro cylinder lock on your door to get in? It's a very common crime these days unfortunately. No less than TWELVE cars were stolen from a single street not far from us, last week. Same MO - snap the lock in a few seconds, take the keys, and one scrote drives away the car while the next moves on to next door. Rinse and repeat. Bar stewards.

As @loadswine says, get a faraday pouch (a few quid on Amazon or similar) for your keys, but importantly replace your locks with ABS Ultimate or Ultion cylinders. Unlike normal cylinders, these are snap attack proof, drill proof, pick proof and bump proof and are two of the only locks approved to British Standards 3* Kitemark, with a Diamond rating from Sold Secure (master locksmiths association) as well as Secure by Design approval (from the police). Nobody's getting in with one of those fitted. We replaced ours when the burglaries started up around these parts, and we also installed 360 degree coverage of our home and gardens with 4k UltraHD Hikvision 8MP cameras. Not cheap but cheaper than having your car nicked and your home violated (or worse).

Hopefully the insurance sort it all out for you quickly, and the scumbags get caught. Try to get back to normal and take some steps to get control back.

All the best.

Fitted the Avocet ABS ones to every door on the house as soon as we moved in. 4 doors in our place but worth it.

Should really get around to replacing the handles too for something a little more sturdy.

While it won't do any harm, the ABS locks are 3* stand-alone. They are no more secure with extra furniture (eg reinforced handles).
