Side light?

Featured Replies

My sisters little Citigo has nearside side light out, swapped DRL's to prove the lamp is OK.

Are the side lights on separate fuses?

If so any ideas on the numders please?

Fuse No: 22 is DRL's (both)

And OMG laying on my back with a door sill has a back rest with my head on the throttle pedal, tourch and vari-focals all steamed up is not a good place to be. Wish they could have put the fuse box somewhere easier.. :)

No idea which fuse, but I have a feeling that front and rear parking lights may be fused (as a pair) separately on each side of the car, so if you're referring to a front one, check the rear on the same side, and vice-versa. If both front and rear are out on the nearside, look for a bust fuse.

Take a digital photo of the fusebox, then examine at your leisure on a big screen? May be able to spot the bust fuse visually that way, without the contortionism.

Yes it's fuse 22.

Had this myself once.

As far as I know the fuse for the parking light is fuse 15 or 45, it's named as "light switch" I had a set of dodgy DRL's that blew that fuse

It was a dodgy led that blew fuse 22, so managed to replace that and stuck a pair of brand new standard lamps in, then noticed the side light out on N/S, so sounds like your right ^^^ David :) best I get that one changed.

My DRLs are out at the moment....side lights work fine lol took one look at the fuse box location and decided to do it another day.....it's been 3 weeks now haha

So what do you think....fuse or the bulb or a mix of the two?

Think if the switch fuse you mention, controls only 1 x lamp then it will be the fuse but find it strange if the side lights function would be on 2 x separate fuses as the 1 x DRL fuse controls both lamps.

The lamps are fine because if I swap them over the side light filament works on both lamps.

Have you checked to see if front and rear parking lights are both not working on the nearside?

Interesting, as far as I know there are 4 fuses for side lights, 2 for passenger side and 2 for driver side

I had the same. It's fuse 22.

Even the dumbass dealers couldn't fix it so I replaced fuse 22 and they worked. I went back into them just to make them look idiots.

Page 140 of the owners manual seems to suggest that there's another dozen fuses at the driver's side end of the dashboard on vehicles with Start/Stop system. Fuses 9 & 10 called simply Right light and Left light. I wonder what they are?

Not yet, I will ring my sister to check them.

Take it, its the leave the indicator stalk turned on to which ever side you want the park light showing, then switch off the ignition?

That'll do, but couldn't you just switch them all on at the light switch? (Parking lights is just another term for side lights + tail lights).

The fuse layout in these is strange. As david said, there are two fuses for the running light function, one for each side, (labelled light switch in handbook) a master fuse controlling drl function (22) and two for sidelights

Hi Wino,

Wasn't ignoring your very first reply (which was the most sensible approach) my sister lives miles away and explaining checking various lights is an event ;)

Just thought someone may have known definitively straight away if the N/S & O/S side lights were on one fuse or two and which fuse number/s.

I have already replaced fuse 22, for the DRL's as they weren't working and are OK now.

I will get her to put the side lights on and check the rears are both on too or if the N/S rear is off with the front...then I still need to identify the fuse?

The manual is pants in a way as it numbers the fuses and a chart tells you which number does what but it doesn't tell you the default fuse rating required for each item.

So as well as being a contortionist you have to mind read the correct fuse rating is the one already fitted and hope no one has been meddling and fitting incorrect size fuses.

Unless there is another page with fuse no: 3 = windows = 7.5A etc as an example?

Fuse 23 is the NS front and rear side/tail lights. Had the same thing, did 22, and still out. took it to Skoda and they said in the hand book, all fuses marked " headlights " are both side and or headlights. They put a meter on my fuse box and it was 23 blown

Westover?

No Meadens.

Just ignore the service manager then they're alright.

I see LOADS of Citigos and Ups with failed DRLs. Is this a common issue?

From what I've seen on the road it tends to be the 62/13 plate models with lights out, just depends on how much driving they have done really

I had a DRL failure a few weeks ago on my 13 plate Citigo, which had about 11,000 miles on the clock at the time. The bulbs were quite blackened.

The car does a lot of short journeys, and the trip computer shows an overall average speed of 27 mph, so that works out to bulb failure after about 400 hours, which doesn't sound very good.

But then before DRLs became commonplace, 5/21 watt dual filament bulbs were normally used for tail/stop lamps, so the 5W filament would be on with side or headlights, and the 21W only intermittently when braking. Used as DRLs, the 21W filaments are on all the time, so the bulbs will run much hotter, reducing their lives.

I've replaced them with standard Bosch units from Halford's, and we'll see how long they last (if I still have the car by the time they wear out).

On standard lamps I have seen virtually new cars with one DRL out, its the joys of filament lamps and good old roads/potholes vibrating them along with being on at 21w all the time.
