Yay this one fits. All the way from Spain.

Now if only the damn pipe would go on with the turbo in place!! Won't quite go over the studs. Need to disconnect the other end but it's a total pig to get to the bolts.

Finding TDC. Got the bottom end right but top I'm not so sure about. Have requested help from Pete, who knows a lot more than me.

I think it's all good now. I got the flywheel at TDC then we lined up the camshaft. The mark on the back of the pulley isn't great and it's not clear exactly what to line it up with. Got the cambelt on and fully turned the engine about 4 times with no issues. Then Pete put the distrubutor on.

Rob click on the first picture to see it in it's full white wheeled loveliness. To be fair it sounded better than it looked. The short wheelbase is not a nice as the earlier versions. Tried to find the owner to see if I could offer him some sweeties in return for a spin in it :D

Any working theory or idea on why it wont fire? Something silly like air in the fuel lines? Or a loose earth connection? If it fired up twice, it must be something straight forward at least :(

Got the car to run for a few minutes today after tinkering with the distributor a bit. Looks like I wasted my time yesterday putting the bumpers, grille and lights back in.
I have an oil leak from the turbo feed line - the end I didn't manage to get off but I must have broken the seal. That's going to be a pain as the allen bolt is rusty and rounded. And the water pump started leaking coolant as soon as things got warm. Which is a bit of a mission to get to!
So, fluids back out again!
Bugger.

And it gets worse...

Not 100% sure why coolant is leaking from the water pump. Have tightened the bolts a little bit in the optimistic hope that I won't have to take the whole thing out again.
The oil leak is coming from the cap screw on the turbo oil feed where the red dot is - I removed it and couldn't get the other out (green dot) so put the red one back in and fixed the problem at the other end of the line. But I must have damaged the threads in the oil filter housing because it just spins.Sigh. I somehow didn't realise when I put it in that it wasn't tight. Maybe because it's such a bugger to get to.  So it looks like the whole thing needs to come off.
Remind me again why i do this stuff? :D

Also draining the coolant didn't go as I planned.

Get the oil filter housing off, put some heat on the bolt to move it, then get a helicoil insert fitted, should not cost a lot Rob.

On the water pump front, is this the first time it's had new coolant Rob?, as new anti freeze is really good at hunting down tiny leaks and chucking it out of them. Is it coming out of the bearing drain hole or the gasket area?.

Man on a mission:giggle: - well done Rob - you're getting there.

Any idea where the coolant was coming from yet?

Definitely the water pump but I haven't taken it off yet to see why. Maybe I kinked the O-ring when I adjusted the belt tension.

I did some messing with wiring too. Wired in the CB radio for Gumboot Rally

Also found some appropriate tapes. Though the Out of Sight Audio thing seems to have stopped amplifying the output from the tape deck as well as losing most of the volume on the Bluetooth connection. I think I'll remove it and write it off as an expensive mistake.

Going OT for a moment, is all ok with you and the family over there?, was working on the laptop late last night and could not believe what I was seeing.

On the subject of the car, glad to hear stuff moving forward and you are getting some luck with it.
