Now up to nine cars......and two saloons at around £5.5k as well as some lovely top flight estates at the pricey end of things....

its such a killer. road tax on those here (down to the co2 emissions) is 2356 euro per year :(

there is a beautiful one listed in northern ireland that I was interested in but the tax killed it for me.

the facelift though is 217g of co2 so is only 1200

Already looking at the black ex-police interceptor v6 superb..... May have to buy it and call it "MadMax"

2 of them petrol drinkers have been on the market for a while, both were on my watch list.

But.... :D

10k+ mileage and a mention of £27k....   heck I got a good deal back in 2014.

How do you find the V6? On fuel? Running costs? Servicing?

Did you go from manual to DSG?? How do you find the auto box? Do you just use D? Or do you use the manual change or flappy paddles at all?

I've posted elsewhere on here about the 3.6 economy and other merits of 3.6 ownership. Yes, I'm biased...I love the thing! On a run using D selection I can get 30mpg. Having a hoon in sport mode with the flappy paddles it drops to 20/22mpg ish. Servicing I've yet to encounter but I can guarantee that here in Switzerland it will be crazy money so will probably do it myself. Engine is pretty much bomb proof so only routine service items needed via eBay and the like (oils and fluids, brake pads etc). Most bits are common VAG bits so easy to find. The 3.6 uses the (apparently) more reliable 6sp DSG and mine is fine.....I only have about 50k miles on my car (a 2010 model) and its running well so far. You must get the DSG serviced though (oil and filter change) at around 40k miles just to keep things sweet. My Haldex and system was great in winter and it's also brilliant in the dry summer. Fantastic traction. Engine is a gem. I need to get my ecu redone and a better exhaust system to free up some extra bhp at some point when finances allow. So far so good though :)

Very fair summary of the ownership experience - thanks for sharing.

Servicing costs in the UK are as cheap as most models really.

From an .:R36 perspective with the 300bhp version of this engine;

i have no complaints on servicing, running costs whatsoever.

To get towards R36 specification Samuir1974, is it 'as simple' as an ecu tune? The engine is the same I believe (cams etc) although I imagine the exhaust might help.

Dave

Edited to add: I found this on the vxvortex forum that indicates a possible head and manifold change might be at the heart of things. I'm going to delve further on this. If I could get 300bhp I'd be happy :)

Thanks for the insight. In my current car I get about 500 miles to £65 of diesel. Im only going to see between 300-400 miles out f a V6??!! But it's that noise - the V6 with double de-clutch on the down shifts and the burble from a sports exhaust. The Q-car status of it too

£5500 car is now sold...... Unfortunately not to me!!

Hi Dave - i've never see the definitive change list; but a you found already - it was said to be more than ecu changes.

Cheers,

Ste.

wile7 have you found a direct spec comparison between the mighty 3.6 and the new 280 motor ?

If you fit LPG can you get a VED reduction?

Not yet but that's a cracking idea. I've done the comparison in my own head but it won't be too difficult to put a simple chart together. I'll sort something out and post it on here.

Not sure to be honest and have never seen a 3.6 conversion to gas - anyone help here?

I've never considered it as many of the reviews I've read on cars (different makes) fitted with it say on the hand its great, others say avoid with a barge pole. I lean towards the latter but thats just me.

Also, we travel a lot in Europe and lpg vehicles are banned on many ferrys, the euro tunnel, many underground car parks and city centres...its just not worth the hassle for us.

Which is odd given that EVERY service station (at least on the tolls) has LPG....so its another case (like diesels will get to be) "we can have but the UK cant...

LPG has a lower calorific value per ltr burnt, so you use pro rata more by about 10% than unleaded but its half the price...

On which ferries? not P&O for sure

iv. Lock your car and leave in gear with the handbrake on. All car alarms must be switched off and disabled when parked on the vehicle deck. Cars powered by LPG should have tanks switched off when on vehicle decks. Do not carry fuel cans on board - full or empty. Do not overfill your tank.

It's not factually correct as I've read up on it. A few ferry companies suggest you turn the system off on the ferry but the only method of transport where it's a no go is on Le Shuttle. I was going to say... Been with an LPG Wrangler on the ferries and they were fine about it. :)

I was careful on my wording saying many, not all ferrys around Europe but I accept that we have not used a UK/france ferry for around 15 or so years when lpg was certainly a no go. Apologies for not being factually correct and possibly scare mongering amongst those folk with LPG equipped cars.

It does bug the father in law that he can't park his log equipped car underground in Place de Capitol in Toulouse though :)

Dave

Many "Chelsea tractors" are on LPG, where it seems acceptable (at 70p a litr) and many of those can be seen at warp 8+ on the French toll roads...
