Hi All,

 

Spent a very enjoyable Sunday with Karl who is local to me; detailing his Fabia vRS to almost perfection.

Karl asked me to do a brief write-up and upload his pictures of the day... but pretty much all his own work.

I was there to assist and just help with any tips or techniques to improve Karl's already well practised detailing routine.

 

 

 

The car had been fully washed on Friday; so only a quick wash was performed on Sunday morning after the rain stopped.

 

The paint was inspected and paint gauge employed to verify acceptable paint levels and overall integrity.

One repair found on passenger door and one on the front bumper - but all healthy paint levels there regardless.

 

Lots of old polish (AG-SRP) found around window seals, door handles and badges - all removed.

 

Using the light gun.... minimal swirls found, but very few RDS marks and blemishes to tackle.

To be honest - the car is a real credit to Karl - one of the best kept cars I have seen in a while.

 

After some discussion, we opted to use Britemax Blackmax Ultra fine polishing glaze and on the test panel - the results were simply stunning.

Blackmax easily cleansed the paint of old wax and oxidation plus really brought up the gloss levels on an already stunning car.

 

Karl went to work with his DAS-6 with a green pad, and I had the Flex-VRG with same pad/polish combo.

 

Rear light clusters were a bit dull, and looked like they would benefit from a light polish also; plus the black A-pillars and wing mirrors needed attention too.

 

Number plates front/rear are starting to degrade a little - so Karl is getting new plates ordered this week.

 

Exhausts were tackled with a foam polishing cone, Autosol and sealed with Britemax Metal twins.

 

Karl's chosen wax was Auto Perfection Intensify Dark Temptation... applied with AF wax-mates.

A nice show wax, and one of the easiest I have ever used. Perfect for the nice wet look Karl wanted.

I have found this wax a little grabby on application (when I tested) - but after this polish; we had no issues.

The wax just glided over the paint and buffed off easily with some 700gsm BOA towels. 2 coats were applied

 

 

 

 

 

All in all, the detail was approx. 6 hours work start to finish. Karl finished off the interior, alloys with BSD and Meguiars tyre dressing.

Heard great things about Britemax Blackmax, and I4detaining has shut up shop to concentrate on there Britemax Range. And of course the AP Dark Temptation. Thanks for posting boys and glad you've had a belting detailing day!!!

First time I've ever used the britemax polish and it's excellent. Will certainly be adding it to my ever growing collection.

Works really easily with THE DA for quite a long period and had no dust issues with it yesterday either!

All in all a very good day, even if Stephen was pulling all the old bits of SRP out the gaps and badges! :p

Hard one to judge - as Karl's car didn't have any serious defects or marks to go at on the day.

Blackmax is marketed as an "ultra-fine" polishing glaze..... so very very light cut really.

 

On other cars where defects or blemishes may have been evident - I've just done 2 passes and still made good progress with Blackmax.

I've made my way around the Superb with Menz Power Finish on an orange hexlogic pad. So the defects are mostly gone, but it needs refining at some point. Just pondering what to use. Lime prime would be ideal if it didn't fling everywhere!! Then again, it needs using. Blackmax seems to fit the bill that Lime Prime does; abrasive with decent lubricating glazing oils.

That last pic shows just how much care you take with that vRS Karl. Exceptional!!!

What speed are you using?

How much did you use on the pad?

Ive applied Lime Prime with a DA and had no 'fling'..I use setting 2 om my Flex with a couple of spots of product and work it well in on the panel

Karl is eager to try new products and I think I've introduced some good options for his detailing regime.

 

But there are always more...... so whatever you have to bring along to the party - great.

Based on my use - Blackmax should work well; especially after the experience using it on Karl's car.

 

The only other dedicated finishing polish I use is CarPro Reflect.

Certainly recommend black max! Done a lovely job of the car. Still looking good! now! Slightly dusty and dying to give it a wash but haven't got time :(

No the A pillars in this case up the side of the windscreen (top row of pictures on the right), although I guess the same technique can be used on the B pillars too?

Just to add a comment on how we tackled Karl's car on this one.

 

A-pillar was polished as per the black roof - with Britemax Blackmax on the day.

Easily polished with the same 150mm pad used on the bodywork actually - due to convex shape;

or you could switch to a smaller 3" pad if you happen to have that available I guess.

 

B-pillar was more of an issue.... in that these are vinyl wrapped on Karl's vRS.

The wrap is peeling on a couple of edges - so I opted not to polish them and instructed Karl to discuss further with Skoda.
