I reckon you wish that you still had these judging what they make on that well known auction site, very nice list by the way. In your motorcycle list were there any 2 stroke Jap screamers like Suzuki GT250, I had one in blue........I can smell the burning 2 stroke now :D

One of my old Bosses had a 05 Subaru WRX Prodrive and He used to let me use it sometimes, seriously quick but I felt the interior was a bit naff, engine wise it could not be faulted. I see you are after a Fiat Arbarth 500.  Years ago Fiat ( Fix It Again Tony) were laughed at like Skoda were....Funny how things have changed

It's a cliché but the Impreza always put a smile on my face and it never let me down, a real hero of a car.

The wife would shake her head every time we went under a bridge as I just had to put the window down so I could here it. :notme:

I never liked any newage Subaru enough to buy one though.

I've had my Abarth a year or so, I won't say that I don't have a bit of trepidation about our two cars being a Fiat and a Skoda!!  :D

Very nice selection there.......I assume that the VX has the Vectra engine in it so it must really fly :envy: ........................................ .Why have I not ever owned a French car ? :notme:

Yep the Z22SE shared with the Vectra. 0-62 in a shad over 5 seconds. But with a small amount of fettling (163bhp) could sneak under 5, or for a couple of grand dive under 4 (260bhp-400bhp Supercharged).

147bhp and 930kg made for fun. Nothing I have ever driven has been as communicative. That includes a few Lambos and Astons.

I do, especially the 1300 Sport Escort - it was near mint in white with black velour upholstery. Sadly I didn't keep it long as people kept on pestering me to sell it and eventually I gave in and sold it. Even though I sold it for nearly 40% more than I paid for it, it's still a regret.

My bike history included an FS1E DX (in yellow) which I wish I still had given the prices they go for, an RD125, KH250 and now a DT400E. Still love the mid seventies Japanese two strokes, particularly the Kawasaki triples - just love that noise!!

I always wonder if those 70's Jap 2 strokes did go as well as I remember because it has been an awful lot of years since I rode one.

I recall the Subaru my Boss had was quite thirsty when driven enthusiastically :D  low 20's were very common :whew:  Thinking of the old Fiats, an old friend of mine bought a Fiat 126 from an auction :peek:  years ago to find out when he drove it home the engine was held up by a piece of scaffold tube wedged in the engine bay :D .....the joys of motoring in the old days :sun:

I had a Subaru Impreza Series McRae with Prodrive Performance Pack back in the late 90's, most of the time it was in the teens mpg, never really seen above 25mpg.

On the plus side at that time the residuals were rock solid.

I lost about £1,500 after 2 years with my first Impreza, the second one wasn't quite as good as by then people had stopped laughing at the fact I drove a Subaru and started to take note of the press reports. There were more on the used market after that

Would you have a Subaru now ? I would not want one for everyday use as I seem to remember that the ride was very firm and I don't fancy my butt cheeks pounded by all the pot holes around :x

I had mine from 94-99 and to be honest, by the time I sold my second one the image had become one of reverse-cap wearing young thrusters. I even had mine broken into (they couldn't start it) which considering my left-field car choice for most of my life, came as a bit of a surprise. I think the Scoobys image continued to be damaged as the kids fitted exhaust the size of family sized pizza and the second hand values plummeted. They were an expensive car to fix too if they had been badly modified and/or thrashed.

I do occasionally look at the latest ones and 'wonder'. I guess if they built a more modest looking car with the full WRX/STi stuff I might be slightly tempted, but I can't realistically see myself going back there.

What about you? Would you get one?

I know what you mean as there is a Guy down the road from us who has a WRX with what looks like a dustbin/incinerator bolted under the rear, I reckon that noise would be really annoying after 30 mins on the motorway

At first I loved the noise at it was unlike any other car on the road at the time, but it became the cavalry charge bugle call of the chav after a few years. I think the car has become more of a classic these days, with a mix of chavs and enthusiasts, but it's not like the glory days of Colin McRae and Richard Burns hooning them for a living. I think people either don't realise, or they forgot, that the original understeered like a stuck pig :D They quickly sorted that out thankfully. I do miss mine, but some 'ex's' should left as an 'ex' :(

I wish I'd kept my Series McRae. Colin McRae had No1 and his family still have it. A collector has my old one and looking at the tax checker he SORN's it through winter and runs it to events in summer.

There was a program on Motors TV on Christmas day about a Series McRae event and Colin's L555 BAT Impreza was there and it's now valued at £3.5 Million.

With the Prodrive Performance Pack the Series McRae was 240BHP and just 1250kg kerbweight even with full time AWD.

Not long after I sold my second Scooby I was sat in my Golf and witnessed a bank raid opposite me. The thieves jumped into a Scooby and shot off. I gave a statement and the Policeman asked in a slightly sarcastic way did I know what sort of car it was? or at least did I "know what colour it was?".

He was surprised when I not only told him the exact model but the colour was Mica Blue (as was my second one)  :D

Any of these would bring good money now, I used to love the big Datsun, I used to have the Datsun 180 Bluebird....Strange because it was orangey red

88 F Lancia Y10 1.0 Fire LX.....awful but had an alcantara dash.....and lots of rust and dodgy electrics. The horn used to go off when it rained and bits fell off the tailgate whenever it was opened

92 J Fiat Uno 1.0 Fire "Spark" special edition.....quite a nice shade of cornflower blue but with an awful lime green interior....spent much of my informative youth driving around in that thing.

98 R Corsa 1.2 Breeze....good car....1.2 8v SPi with a whole 45hp being the downside!!

2002 52 Punto 1.2 Active Sport....basically an Active with the Sportings interior fogs and alloys. Revvy 60hp motor so a bit better than the Corsa. Was my first car with Airbags!

2005 05 Corsa 1.2 Twinport SXi....first brand new car and actually was excellent. First time Id had AC too. I paid naff all for it too thanks to my brother who works for Vauxhall

2006 56 Astra 1.8 SRi XP hatch...125hp non VVT - Black

2006 56 Astra 1.8 SRi XP hatch...same but Silver

2007 07 Astra 1.9 CDTi SRI XP hatch....brilliant car - Silver

2007 07 Astra 1.8 SRi XP hatch...face lift 140hp VVT - Black

2007 57 Astra 1.8 SRi XP sport hatch....had it a couple of days and swapped it due to a knackered EPS column - Black

2007 57 Astra 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi XP sport hatch....kind of glad the previous car broke as much preferred the 150 CDTi's - Silver lightning

2008 08 Astra 1.9 CDTI 150 SRi XP hatch - Black

2008 08 Astra 1.9 CDTI 150 SRi XP sport hatch - Black

....I had a sweet lease deal where I got a new Astra every 3 months/6k miles for a couple of years..v cheap but the insurance was v expensive. A good few of them I funded with a car allowance.

Then first forray in company motors....

2006 06 Astra 1.7 CDTi 100 Club.....yuck having come from my SRi's...was only a stopgap whilst waiting for a Mk5 Golf Bluemotion

2008 58 Golf Mk5 Bluemotion Match....excellent car but renouned for DPF issues...mine was always OK....

2009 59 Golf Mk6 2.0 TDI GT..swapped the Bluemotion for it following a promotion...was a few months old with about 4k on the clock but was fortunate it had some accidental additional spec (auto lights/wipers/dimming mirror)

Then I went back to car allowance....amd my first Skoda!

2011 11 Fabia vRS Estate

2013 62 Octavia vRS Blackline Estate DSG

2014 63 Octavia Mk3 2.0 TDI Elegance Estate

Then back to company car.....

2013 63 Astra 2.0 CDTi 165 SE.....rental, drove really well bar epic turbo lag

2014 64 Golf Mk7 GTD...stopgap for a few months whilst my factory order turned up

2015 65 Golf Mk7 GTD...my current wheels.

Wheels Ive had an opportunity to buy and (regrettably in some cases) didnt....

91 H Mk2 Golf G60 3 door in 2004.....fresh German import big bumper model in Tornado Red....one owner, immaculate and low miles about 45k....still had the dealer sticker and plate surrounds on it. Pulley upgrade was making circa 200hp. Lots of rare spec including electric mirrors, power steering etc. Guy wanted 4k for it and felt it was too expensive at the time....sadly Ill probably never find another....

94 L MR2 Revision 5 GTS Turbo....immaculate JDM import that a friend owned and wanted me to buy.....250hp, rear wheel drive....was absolutely stock and immaculate....I regret not doing so.

95 300ZX T bar 2+2 Twin Turbo manual....mate contemplated selling it for reasonable money.....sadly as much as I wanted to I didnt have the means or justification to have a 3rd car as a plaything......a 430hp one at that!

^^ Wow the Lancia White Hen. I never actually met an owner of one! I loved the styling when they came out :)

Haha I know right! It wasnt as terrible as I make out....was v quirky but few of my friends had cars with electric windows and central locking....or a suade effect dash!

My late father at the time was mad for italian cars having run Alfa Romeos himself for many years. When it came to buying a 2nd car for my older brother to learn in....this was what he chose. My brother then spent a good few years driving the ass out of it and frankly wrecking it....it then remained garaged for a time until I was ready for it.

Really (given it was carb fed with no rev limiter and had so much valve clearance you could just rev and rev it) it was dangerously fast for how it stopped and steered even with a relatively mediocre 45hp...had a 5th gear too so you could actually sit on a carriageway at speed without it feeling too busy.

I had it for maybe a year/18 months to the point it had degraded so much (and I think my parents started fearing for my safety) that it got sold on and we bought the Uno instead. The Uno was v basic by comparison but a much better car..I am sure it was galvanised as it never rusted in the years I had it.

However my mate then proceeded to pass his test and inherreted his sisters Nova 1.3 SR....different league altogether that thing!
