Rear Wiper Stuck On?

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I've just got my hands on a 2001 Fabia 1.4, and I'm in the process of fixing all the little niggles. The rear wiper was not working, so I checked the fuse box and fuse 32 was gone. So, I've replaced this, but once I put the new fuse in, the wiper comes on and won't turn off, no matter what the position of the stalk. Is this a problem any one has come across before?

There are loads of posts on here about problems with the FRONT wipers, or the rear not working, but I've not been table to find anyone with the problem of too much wiping!

Thanks.

I would be thinking the hose is leaking on back of wiper motor and possibly shorting it out.

New motor job perhaps.

Think that the wiper relay contacts may be burnt or fused together in the run position. Suggest finding it and unplugging, then possibly checking which pins in the relay holder are showing permanently live, and live when rear wiper activated (stalk pushed forward).

Don't think there's a removable relay for the rear (or front) wipers. All controlled within the 'Onboard Supply Control Unit' and all the relays in that are soldered in place.

When you say the fuse was 'gone' do you mean missing or blown? Does the rear washer work?

The fuse had blown, washer was working fine.

Solved this now, thanks all. I had the motor apart and there was lots of corrosion, guess the washer pipe leaked at some point or rainwater got past the seal from the outside. Fitted a secondhand motor from a breakers (£15), and it's fine now.

Make sure you use some strong screen wash effective down too -10 or even stronger for winter time.

Those hose will pop off in 1 of 4 places if not when winter comes
