Citigo Wheel upgrades needed?

Featured Replies

Hi all. First post here so apologies if I've broken any rules.

I'm looking to get my first car this weekend and I'm 99% certain that it's going to be the Citigo (unless cargiant somehow has a majestic deal on the Fiesta). However all the citigos I've seen at CarGiant all have steel wheels. Do you guys think that it is worthwhile getting alloys put on afterwards? Something like these http://www.wheels.uk.com/package/create?id=EB2k7Fku8mZblbR0Y2jqceYrmUAh5BhszRkOWdO6Ftc

Also what would you guys recommend, 3dr or 5dr? I've driven both and truth be told there isn't really a noticeable difference between the handling of the 2 models based on the brief test drives that I took. Essentially there's the 3dr elegance greentec at £5k (alloys etc) and a white 5dr S model at Cargiant (with ac but no alloys). I'm a little bit stuck between the 2 models.

Thanks

I don't think the S has ESP... if its your first car, go SE Monte elegance ect so you get ESP ;)

Do you think ESP is worth it? I'd like to think I'm quite a sensible driver. Both my parents didn't have ESP on their cars until the last 3 years and non of them have had issues. (though tbh it that could also be because I'm in suburban London, all there is is a bit of rain at most hehe).

Essentially these are my two options

I was under the impression that the s model doens't have air con, but the cargiant ad says that their s model does have ac.

I work for the ambulance service, believe me its worth it..... my g/f and my neighbour (he nearly died and is scared to drive now) have both had accidents that could have killed them that would have been impossible with ESP ...... it could save your life. I have seen many fatals that would have been saved with ESP

I'd deffo go with the elegance! much better spec, and its a green tec so you get stop start too , better for fuel, and a class less on tax (free!)

and welcome to briskoda ;)

I have an Elegance...and would certainly go for that one. However....mine is 5-door, and I certainly wouldn't want a 3-door version - -doors are so much more convenient.

Hi and welcome from me too. Cargiant never seem to have an SE model in stock but the Elegance is a nice choice and they are all at a good price. I'm at 4.5K on a five door Greentech 59bhp and the esp is not intrusive. I used to have a Smart 4/4 which was very nannyish but this is brilliant. I commute into London along the 316 and bomb along the M40 into Brum every few days. The car is always so eager and coming from a diesel it is quite refreshing to use those revs, turn down the stereo and listen to the engine howl. Grip is much better than expected, even on long motorway junctions at daft speeds it feels well planted.

So far I have only put the BP 97 octane fuel in as it is cheap to fill the tank. I must confess to keeping it around the 4000rpm mark after the running in period and the worst I have seen is 49mpg. It is three months old now and I think I may put too many miles on it in the next three years.

I keep looking at my wheels and thinking I should change them too.... I reckon banded steels with some chrome hub caps would look pretty neat.

I'd go for the Elegance, yes 5 doors are more likely to sell and worth a few quid more due to the popularity, but the S model is the base model so it'd have a lower value than the Elegance in a few years time

Aweomse, cheers for the input guys. I think I've settled on the 3dr elegance. Yea I suppose if I'm giving mates a lift it'll be a pain to get everyone in. But meh, I'll hardly be giving my mates lifts haha .

Also, i believe 3dr's have rear cupholders which the 5dr's don't

Am I the only person who never considers cup-holders to be at all relevant, or even useful? Mind you, nobody ever drinks (or eats) in a car of mine...even me!

just to update. ended up getting a 2014 (barely used) 5dr SE greentech without alloys unfortunately for 6750. The bloody dealer didn't call me when the £5k came in and it got sold within 3 days :'(

good shout. Just had a look. they're about £300 for genuine skoda ones so that's not too bad :D

I've a set with winter tyres on that are for sale.

have a look in the for sale section on here there might be some. Other than that, ebay is always a good place to start.

Don't forget to tell your insurance (standard Briskoda disclaimer)

ah ok nice one. I think for now my only option is to not do anything to the car, it's my first car and I have a sneaking suspicion if i modify it at all the premium is going to shoot through the roof.

Original spec wheels probably won't as much. But yes if you are a new driver and first car insurance will not be cheap.

Tbh if I was upgrading to oem wheels I would expect no increase in premium, as they are type approved for the car

Depends though, when I phoned to say my wheels had been resprayed they didn't necessarily ask the question of have they been changed but rather are they a different size

I would stick OEM alloys on it and play dumb "the car came like this...." But I am known to be a bit dodgy.....

If I bought the Citigogogo and declared it as a stock SE and then if I'm in an accident and they inspect it and they ask about the 1.8t the roll cage the 4WD system, does that mean the "it came like this" phrase would work? :D

One question. If i switch from the 14" steel to 15" alloy. DOesn't the suspensions need a bit of tinkering?
