Skoda Fabia 1.2 tsi 110ps SE L

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I received my brand new Skoda Fabia 3 days ago. I was over the moon with the design and look of it!

After driving the car around for a few days I am amazed by how nicely it drives. The 110 engine was defiantly the right choice as it is quite nippy for a 1.2.

I only have one downer at the moment

1. It doesn't come with a spare wheel. Even on the SE L spec! You have to buy it as a added extra which I thought was shocking as I had purchased the most "deluxe" model.

I have taken the car on a 60 mile round trip so far. The cruise control is defiantly a bonus as it makes motorway driving better.

The car seems to be drinking a lot of petrol at the moment. I don't know if this is because it's a brand new engine? I have done a bit of town driving but it does seem to drink it quite fast.

What I found strange was that the tank "full" is displayed at 582 miles or something close to that but my half a tank displays a 130 miles range? Again is this because its a new engine.

I have attached some photos of the outside. If you guys want any info on the car etc just ask and I will try to do my best to answer them.

Thanks  :D  :D  :D

The spare wheel is listed as an option.

For the milage it will settle. At about 7000 kms since May Ive got 5.8l/100 kms, but that is either stop and go city driving OR motorway. Nothing in between. Im not easy on the gas either and neither very respectful to motorway limits in this sparsly trafficated country.

So my milage is more than fair.

The tank gauge shows full for quite a while before it goes down. You could use the car info for a second opinion, whether its more precise is yet another question.

Nice colors that car has. :)

My wife has that engine in a Polo SEL with 6 speed box, only had the car for 5 days and only I have driven it, but I'm impressed with the economy from new, maybe I'm driving it too carefully though as I'm scoring very high mark using the "blue trainer" eco thing! (sad but true - my other car is an Audi S4 so when not driving hard, I do tend to drive with a very light foot).

Today I noticed that the engine revs increase when you change up a gear, even although you have "feathered" the throttle, this only seems to happen if you have passed 3000RPM before changing up a gear, curious that  (overtaking traffic).

Hi, glad you like the car You may find that the reason for the range not being linear is that you accidentally 'vented' the tank when you filled it. In the filler orifice there is a little button at around 2 o'clock. When you fill the tank, the auto cut off will operate on the pump as the tank becomes 'full'. If you now push the button in the filler orifice you will hear the escape of air, and will subsequently be able to get more fuel in. What you are doing is filling the expansion volume, so it is a good idea not to use this facility unless you are confident that you will use the first gallon or so immediately or that the car will be stood somewhere that it cannot get warmed by the sun or that the ambient temperature will rise significantly. I tend to use this when I am filling up the night before a journey, so I know that the car will be cooler than the temperature at which I filled it and I will be using the fuel in the expansion volume before the day heats up. Using this facility tends to fool the quantity and hence range predictions, though it sorts itself out.

I tend to get around 52mpg (long term average) now that the car has done 5k miles - it started at around 45mpg - though my commute is open roads. Use a heavy foot around town and it will be a different story!

6000 miles & long term average up to now is 58.6 mpg[1.2  110 engine]

You must be driving like Miss Daisy! Is that what the trip computer's telling you, or calculated?

Getting some left-field hassle from my wife about car choice. Was all ready to press the button on ordering a Fabia MC estate with quite a few toys, when 'er indoors says she'd prefer a Captur. Why can't life be simple!?

Do it! Join the Monte Carlo estate club :) and be prepared for a long wait.

Theres a contradiction here somewhere.... :D

The small fly in the ointment is that the car is for her. I was so close to ordering the MC. If the salesman I was dealing with hadn't gone away for a long weekend, the deed would have been done by now. Sixteen options selected, discount and finance deal all sorted in principle. Gutted :(

Just ordered a Fabia SE L Hatch, 1.2 TSI/110bhp, DSG. Car is from UK stock, (didn't want a long wait), and has some options built-in.....panorama roof, heated seats, auto lights/wipers, f&r parking sensors and a spare wheel. Quite happy with those and deal done.

Colour is Topaz Brown. Dealer hasn't seen one in this colour, and neither have I, (but have seen Hondas in what I think is similar), so a bit of a gamble. Anyone seen a Fabia in Topaz Brown?

She has issues about driving a car when I am in it, that only normally happens if I have been allowed drinkies!

Anyone noticed that the action of the start key just initiates the start sequence, ie flick the key round and release it immediately - and the starter runs until the engine fires, just thought I'd ask that question! I am used to that in the B8 S4 - just jab the key into its slot and off it goes, seems like it will be the next thing for these cars.

Seeing as this car could be very economic, I made a conscious effort to stop at the "click stop" and just complete "that" litre of fuel. Should make a change to fuel costs what with petrol so cheap right now, this car happy to use 95 Octane and a more efficient engine. It is so easy to drive when compared with the old but reliable 9N Polo 1.4 75PS. Trouble with brimming the tank (for immediate use) was, I found that some nozzles could get jammed under the vent valve! I will need to explore the higher end of the engine rev range soon, not too high yet, maybe 4000RPM, the economy part of testing has been completed!

Miss Daisy indeed .... my engine has NEVER gone over 3,000 rpm....why do you need to in 6th gear in the U.K.  >>>>> well over 70 m.p.h....YOUR SPEEDING !!!

A few small comments about wife's new Polo 1.2TSI 110, maybe none of this concerns the Fabia:- +VE terminal of the battery is not covered - I've bought a cover from an A1 to sort that, it is just that I did not like to leave the non-earthed side of the battery exposed:      fuel sender module wiring, under the rear seat base, it looks like there has been a design error and the cable lengths are slightly wrong so the cable does not sit in its recess in the grommet:     manual locking points in the front doors are open - ie do not have bungs to cover/seal them, I've ordered in a couple to sort that, I'd be interest if Skoda had covered all these points that VW didn't.

Wait a minute, the intention is to run the engine in correctly, not exceed the UK speed limits, failure to exercise an engine can leave it drinking too much oil.

My comment was in jest; I was alluding more to the fact that you're getting such high mpg than passing comment on your driving style. Peace. :)

Anyway - was the figure from the trip computer, or calculated from brim to brim fills?

Brim to Brim....reckon the cars calculation is reading 1 m.p.g   MORE than it should....for such a device is pretty good! ,for the advice given , I know plenty of drivers who allow the engines to "LABOUR" in too high a gear...equally some drivers "REV"  engines in too low a gear ! I will continue to drive the car & ride my motorcycle as I have for years... with consideration to my vehicle/ machine and other road users.......and you do it your way !!

That's very impressive mpg then. Better than I get from our Citigo. The gear change indicator on that seems to make its sole task life that of keeping revs as little over tickover as possible - even if that means the poor thing shudders with the effort of pulling a high gear. I just ignore it now, as it's such a sweet-revving unit. I was similarly impressed by the refinement and drive-ability of the Fabia TSi 110 engine and six speed 'box.

At 1750 miles in, my 1.2 90  is doing a fill-to-fill 43 mpg - differing from the cars calculation of 42.6 !

That's a mix of town, country and m-way. Mostly town.

Not liking my more frequent trips to the filling station. Missing my old Passat 110TDi - bigger tank and c.50mpg.

Hoping it loosens out over the next couple thousand miles.

We tested a 75 bhp Citigo & apart from being a smaller car& definitely made to a {lesser] budget than the Fabia...did NOT feel that confident on the motorway...power wise nothing in reserve & DEFINITELY more at home for city/town iourneys....good for what it was made for !

Well, I'm taking our Citigo in for its first service tomorrow and all I can say is that we'll agree to differ on that one; I find it a very capable car with superb handling. Yes, it's a bit underpowered at times, but I've not had a car that is so much fun to drive for many, many years. I've done quite a few trips where I've gone through more than a tankful (i.e. 420 miles+) in a day, on all types of road, and I find very few faults in it. One thing's for sure - whether we end up buying a Fabia 3 or a.n.other car, the Citigo's not getting the chop. This one's a keeper.

Theres a contradiction here somewhere.... :D

Well wife has finally driven her new Polo 1.2TSI 110PS, question -  "does it feel any better (more powerful) than your old 75PS Polo" - answer was a non committal "yes" !!  "the brakes are heavier to use than the old Polo" - I have not noticed this, but if she says that I'm sure it is kind of true, though I did notice when I washed the car that there was not much of a gap between the discs and the 16" wheel rims, I'm guessing that that car has 288mm front discs and it has ATE front callipers, which is exactly the same as my old 2000 B5 Passat 2.8V6 193PS 4Motion - now that is progress, Polo 75PS used to be 256mm I seem to remember. Another comment, now that I think about it, the handbrake "weight" seems to have been increased, this could be down to TRW fitting stronger handbrake lever internal return springs, either way, I have fitted the usual (Sharan/Galaxy) external return springs.

Sorry to highjack this thread but I'm thinking of getting this model. Have been quoted £13600 including metallic paint. Is that a good deal??

Ignore me....
