Front brake upgrade options for 2009 Fabia 2 1.4 pdi 80

Featured Replies

Hello,

This seems like a helpful forum so I would like to ask a few questions regarding my motor. This is my first car In years and I was lucky to get it cheap from a family member. It seems to pull much better compared to some small petrol engines I have tried. My mate with an evo laughs but he wont be when the clutch blows up :)

The good news is that it's only done 33k is very clean inside has a full service history and black metallic paint. Bad news it was sat outside all winter and basically has not moved for almost a year, I got it serviced at a VW specialist. They had to do the timing belt+w/pump as it had not been changed in over 4 years. The MOT passed even with the very rusty front disks and slightly misshaped tyres the drums are rusty too but I think that is just surface rust, they look poor as does one of the alloys which has a small bit chipped off near the edge.

I am going to need replace the front brakes soon so I would rather get some better brake parts but I don't know what my options are, any ideas? As for the chipped alloy can that be repaired or shall I start to look for a single 15in wheel?

I would like to spray the chrome? grill black which I don't have a clue how to do and lower the car a little as I find the handling a slightly boat like. I am also going to get new tyres but who makes good price/performance tyres nowadays?

I know it's a lot of questions for my first post but I would be grateful for any advice.

Cheers

Tommy

I have the 1.4 tdi 80 aswell, and with new brake fluid (should be done every 2 years, as the fluid absorbs water, making the fluid more compressible) and new standard pads, I think there pretty good really! I used pagid parts from euro car parts, the prices were pretty reasonable too! I guess an easy upgrade would be to get some 'red stuff' pads

Also on the tyres and handling, from what I've read, installing an uprated rear anti roll bar seems to the one of the most cost effective mods you can do. Also with this you will retain more comfort than lower and harder springs/ shocks.

And for tyres, I've got hankook v12 on the front, and in the dry they are VERY grippy! (And are about £90 a corner) but I find the wet grip a little questionable.
