2006 Octavia strange brake light bulb failure

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to the world of Skoda, new to the forum.  Just bought a 2006 Octavia (I used to own a 2003 Passat so it all feels quite familiar) and noticed the lower brake light on the driver's side does not work but all other brake lights do.

It's a P21 bulb with dual filament (brake & tail light combo).  I replaced the bulb and then swapped the bulb with the one on top of the light cluster because it's the same brake/tail light combo.

The tail light works but not the brake light.  I inspected the spring clips to make sure they were stout and making good contact with the ends of the bulb. All appears to be in order.  No obvious problems with the wiring connected to the light cluster.

Not sure what else to check for my troubleshooting.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you sure it's the brake light? The top should be the brake light and the bottom should be a fog light.SkodaOctaviaRearLightBulbs.jpg

Does the fog light on the passenger side work on the Octavia as mine doesn't even swapping the bulb over for a working one ... the dash gives no warning of a failed bulb ... Peter

As standard only one rear fog works despite the bulb and wiring being there.

However it's possible to tell the car to use both. On a prefl it's simple using vcds, for the fl you need dealer equipment or vcp.

Thanks all. Especially langers2k for the picture. Yes, it is fog light and all is in order. Having 3 brake lights threw me off a bit.

Appreciate the help.
