Who has DAB dropouts on estates with MIB1 Columbus or Amundsen?

Featured Replies

I've had constant dropouts on my 15MY VRS Estate, has gotten a lot worse recently, especially in slightly built up areas.

Car is now in the dealers with a faulty Boost Pressure Sensor that needs replacing and they've given me a Seat Leon SE to drive around in.

Have had zero dropouts in it even in places where I constantly get no signal in my VRS.

It's definitely a fault with the car, I've asked the dealer to look at it while it's in but I'm guessing they won't do much of an investigation, let alone fix it.

It probably depends on which ensemble the stations you are listening to in that area belong. Are they BBC or commercial, national or local stations? It's likely to be a few months before I can give that bit of the M6 a try to compare my MIB2 Bolero.

BBC National, 5 Live or 5 Live Sports Xtra, so no DAB-FM switching.

Do you lose signal around Knutsford on the M6?

I don't recall dropouts up that part of the M6, so if I do get them they're momentary drop outs.  I generally listen to BBC 6 music. I noticed I had quite a bit of trouble with my previous phone charger, but when I changed to a belkin USB plug type I've not had trouble since.

I only loose signal for a significant period of time further up the M6, sort of lake district way when on route to scotland.

Hi - My Reg is WJ64 BWM. My case numbers are SV-2016/01-002126 SV-2015/09-022060 and SV-2015/03/015294.

The first concerned drop outs as soon as I received the car. They upgraded my Columbus in an estate to 0390. It made the Canton better but no dab improvement.

It went back in a second time as I had a VW hire car and it did not cut out at all on my normal commute where mine does about 25% of the time. They checked it all and said that they had replicated the fault but that is normal for this vehicle (They admit it is an issue!). I told them that I was not happy with this and told them that they could not close the case. After 3 weeks they closed the case against my wishes.

The last one was a technical issue as I was considering a replacement for the Shark Fin that does my phone box and GPS with one that could do DAB as well. They told me that they have no replacement and wont recommend one. They have said that I will not invalidate any of my warranty if I chose to do this. They also confirmed that the cable from the MIB1 to the DAB antenna box on the top of the quarter light is a standard DAB cable but it will need extending by 0.5m to reach the main antenna. There is nothing on the market that will do this. I am currently considering a second DAB antenna either next to the other or possibly above the light box at the front of the car.

I hope that helps.

I have had another call from ASMA, she tells me Technical are not aware of a DAB problem on the Estate, I advised her looks of comments on the forum, her response is there may be comments on the forum but no logged calls with SUK!!!

I told her that you had been in touch, she needs case numbers to chase them up!

She is ringing me back next week, Can you assist with case number & contact details please?

thanks

Gordon Bradford

I find this hard to believe! ASMA has dealt with my cases as well so she knows that this is an issue.

It is getting a bit silly now!

All case numbers passed to my contact. I will speak with them tomorrow, I couldn't get hold of them today.

I have a case number, but there is something else on that case as well, so I will get a fresh case logged tomorrow just for the DAB.

Just had a call from Skoda - It sounds like we are making some headway. They are going to read this post and speak to Dan Wilson. My car is booked for service on Friday. In the mean time I have been asked to turn of the DAB auto retune as a trial. They will contact me Wednesday.

Just had a call from Asma, I have referred her to Dan Wilson.

DAB auto retune?

Do you mean the mute settings in the green engineering menu?

Hi Andy

He was talking about the DAB auto switching and FM Switching in the advanced settings menu. It didn't stop cut outs but the signal came back quicker when it wasnt looking for an alternative.

Just had another call. It has been transferred down to Milton Keynes to look at. The first response was that the references relate to different MIB units so not a common fault. I have explained that they are all MIB1 but the evidence suggests the fault is in the bit that is common to both. The antenna and the sensitivity settings. Next update Friday.

Excellent, progress being made. Unfortunately I'm on a site with no mobile coverage all this week so can't speak to Dan until Monday.

I've dropped them a mail and offered to speak directly to MK technical if they will let me ....

Well I have now given up with this problem!

Had a call from Asma today, she tells me she has spoken with Dan Wilson about the problem. She then suggested I take the vehicle to another Dealer to have them look at the car and see if they could determine if the car had a fault. i advised Asma, Benfield had agreed things weren't right, but stated Skoda tech said no problem, if I take the car to another dealer, surely Skoda are going to say the same as they told Benfield.

I advised her I couldn't be bother to chase this anymore!
