I thought it was intended to be the other way around as the title was sarcastic :D Goes to show (something)

Agree the title is definitely sarcastic lol. Reading the first post suggests it was intended to create a playpen/cage to contain all the anti-winters people so they don't "hijack"/contaminate other threads and annoy the pro-winters people hehe ;-)

Either way it's abit weird if you ask me.....

Precisely

Yes but of course AG should be requesting copper or brass tyres for his choo choo since they're more malleable at lower temperatures.

It's like the winter tyres in my Mk2. They just carry them on the train and the extra weight does the rest. Same applied back when railways first came about.... They always carried a good stock of Victorian winter tyres.

Do they use smaller wheels too?

I personally wouldn't mind if we followed Germany and other European countries where winter tyres are mandatory.

While you're using your winter tyres your summer tyres are sat in the dry not getting worn so in the long run it doesn't cost you much more. Very convenient too if you have a separate set of winter wheel pre-fitted with the tyres like most people do in Europe.

Presumptuous comment!

What about all those who live in flats and/or don't have garages or sheds to store them?

If they have safety concerns they can:

Use winters all year around.

Use all-seasons.

Not go out.

You can also buy waterproof covers / jackets if you need to store them outside.

This is a big reason I'd like to see them delivered with all-seasons in the UK.

And the on cost to vehicle manufacturers would be negligible.

This whole topic is bizarre.

You don't see this kind of hate against people who buy bicycle helmets, spec optional airbags on their cars etc and these things (or their absence) don't even affect others.

Hell there's even a pretty unanimous agreement around this forum on the subject of buying good quality summer tyres over Ditchfinders. With many of the same arguments as with winter tyres (car control & safety vs cost). Yet, I can't recall any instances of someone saying 'Nah, I don't need RainSports. Waste of the £20 more it would have cost me for a full set. I'll stick to my Linglongs and just drive carefully in the rain.'

I think a lot of men take Winter tyres as a slight on their manliness?

Disclaimer: I appreciate that some men do not find Winter tyres as a slight on their manliness and also many people can't afford the initial purchase or store a second set.

Not for the first time I shall say again.  Some folk just like to argue!   Some cannot tell the difference between debate and picking a fight and some people have little if no people skills.  They walk amongst us and frequent threads as it possibly gives them some sort of sense of achievment.

Funny old world.

Arguments to purchase winter tyres "because temperature is below 7C" is tottaly stupid. At the other hand, I'm big fan of winter tyres, but when put in their world - snow.

What is going on there is that 7C thing is marketing b/s. Yes, winter tyre will have better grip at -20C then summer tyre even if road is clear and dry. It will just be more flexible and will grip better. But how important is that difference if road is clear and dry? Not at all imporntant! Difference is so small, that difference between new winter tyre and same but 3yr old winter tyre is much bigger in such scenario. In other words, I would much rather be on new summer tyre than on weared winter tyre at very low temperature if road is dry.  Also, difference between premium tyre and cheap Chinese tyre will be again much bigger than difference between premium winter and premium summer tyre, both weared the same, at -20C, if road is dry. Also, there is much bigger difference between dry and wet road, then between winter/summer tyre at dry road....

So if 7C thing is b/s, what is not? Snow and ice. Particularly snow (at ice, everything is bad except studded tyres). Winter tyre is sooooooooooo much better at snow than summer tyre that it is completely impossible to compare them. This is the difference and this is the reason of having winter tyres.

Always strange that people thing Ditch Finders are from China or the far east,

yet respected Major Brands might actually be manufactured in South Korea, Taiwan etc.

& also well advertised and promoted brands manufactured in European Countries as well as less well advertised but of equal quality and performance for less of a retail price also manufactured in EU Countries.

The Named and Respectable Companies Tyres fitted to Quality cars and not always that good performance wise, and when we talk Summer Tyres, some OEM ECO Tyres are just shocking in the wet, let alone in Cold & Wet.

Including OEM fitment to quite expensive Premium Brand Part time AWD vehicles and 4x4's.

Now you mention it I have to say those that wear helmets and spec airbags are obviously feminist communists who should be driven out the country.

They probably buy cheap Chinese winter tryes as well and put LED collars on their pets.

Agree, I remember one of the clothing reps I dealt with had a VW Passat estate in a Bluemotion trim (always fully loaded with samples)...............

It was on ECO premium tyres with correct high pressures....................zero grip in wet conditions, arrived once with face as white as a sheet.....I think he told his boss to stuff it, boss drove it & nearly crashed it .............. :D ........next car was not on stupid high pressure ECO tyres............

Funny you should post that I was looking this afternoon for a LED collar for the dog.  He had a couple of LED lights last year that were great when he had them as it looked like he had his own disco glitter ball.  Sadly he lost them both in a matter of days.

If you need goggles to cut metal, you're doing it wrong. I just look away when using my angle grinder and cut slowly.

I tend to just squint when im using a grinder that way you can still see almost what your doing. ;)

Indeed - i thought we'd done this topic to death last year (and the year before and the year before that....)

My advice is if you think winter tyres are good, put them on your car. If you think they're not needed, then don't. But either way, don't waste you're life slagging off other people who don't have the same opinion as you.

When I first got this car I attended a meeting. Dieseldarren was there with his winter tyres on his Octavia 2.0 PD140 Sport.

We popped into Ikea for a cuppa and we nipped to see my mum who lives at the top of a fairly gradual hill that doesn't get gritted.

I had my foot to the floor, wheels spinning, traction control kicking in crawling up the hill... Darren simply just drove up the hill and wondered what all the fuss was about! lol

They do make a HUGE difference.

Tbf, putting your foot to the floor is the worst thing to do aswel lol.

Need to gently milk every little bit of grip out of it as you can haha.

All i know is.. I wont be without winters or all seasons anymore.

They just make light work of it, and i dno about you, but i dont enjoy digging in freezing conditions. I enjoy turning the heater up and letting the tyres do the work.

No chance id go back to summers in winter again. Theyre ****e at everything cold.

I live in the "snow"donia and I'm 54 driving these roads for nearly 30 years and never had winters and never had any issues
