I don't need winter tyres because I am so awesome thread

Featured Replies

I like it, to wrap around the neck of the plonker in front blocking the road slithering around on his summers, right?

No, seriously, to tow them out of the way!?

:D

Just kidding, chains or socks, just don't do what this kid did, spot the deliberate mistake...

That's a quality picture. I can imagine him telling his pals at the pub (or on a forum!) that chains/socks are a waste of money.

Or maybe he prizes steering over moving?

LOL...Brilliant...LOL

At least this thread has passed a few minutes of boredom!

Do I use winter tyres? Yes.

Do I mock people for not having them? No

Do I care? No

Next subject please!

Now the wintertyre tests starts popping up in the newpapers.

The difference in brakingdistance from the best to worst studded tyre was 24meters. This is with a speed of only 50kmh. A summertyre would probably still be sliding....

Peoples driving is bad enough as it is, and they dont generally adapt to conditions.

See plenty of em come flying up to junctions and hammering the brakes on expecting the car to stop. And oh. It doesnt.

Winters help abit, but theyre still gonna come a cropper i reckon.

I dont worry about driving in the snow. I go at what i think is the right speed, slow down n build speed up before hills etc. n sll you get is some mug tailgating in a 4x4 thinkin it helps them stop. I worry about people crashing into me lol

Mods this thread is for people that are so awesome they don't require winter tyres yet its been hijacked by those professing the virtues of said winter tyres with flagrant disregard for the topic.

So back on track

= I am awesome and I don't need tyres full stop I can get about on the rims.  :notme:

We've gone around in circles on this tread...er...thread.

So you are just doing donuts?

Will the esp in the Octy 3 allow donuts? Have to test when the winter arrives!

It can be switced to a so called sportsmode. Dont think it can be 100% disabled without fiddeling with VCDS and unlocking some options.

Isn't it some sort of EU ruling that TC cannot be total turn off incase the lil darlings hurt themselves?

Still as long as I don't cover myself in Jam and peanut butter and run naked down the street shouting then it's all good.

Despite frequent winter trips to the French Alps and the Lake District at all times of the year, I have never used winter or any special tyres - I do have and have used snow chains. Having said that, I am considering getting a set of winter tyres if I can find a decent source of steel wheels.

Hmm not sure. You can turn the VDC off on a GTR though if youre brave enough haha. Pretty sure that leaves you with no aids.

vxh26,

Is there some sort of issue getting the steel wheels you need,

there are plenty of decent sources, just stick up a wanted ad in Briskoda maybe, or look in a scrap yard.

That's the bit I can never work out.... why everyone wants to put steelies on in winter, half the time a second hand set of alloys are as cheap.

Getting tyred of this now!  Coat on!!!

Aye. I'm feeling a little deflated about this whole tyre saga.

Some people put steel wheels on with winter tyres where there is the need for winter tyres because they might

still slide and hit a kerb, steel works or pot holes that have opened up, and sometimes the steel wheel survives

where some old alloy wheels just do not take the hit. .

But then some old or new steel wheels fair no better.

its snow joke

I am flaked out.
