Random rear wipe

Featured Replies

Before the warranty expires, I would like to eliminate my Yeti's random rear wipe.

After leaving it dry overnight in the garage with the rear wiper column switch in the 'off' position, I regularly get a rear wipe on start-up. Annoying as it's wiping a dry rear screen which is not good for blade or screen - as well as annoying me!

I have switched the Maxi-dot automatic wipe off, too.

Anything else I can try? The salesman says that his demonstrator Yetis often do it too and he thinks it's standard! If so, why? A random rear wipe on a damp morning start-up having been parked outside would be helpful BUT NOT if it's been in a nice dry garage! Grrr........

Mine does this as well. It seems to do it more often if I used the wipers the journey before.

Come on fella's you know that the car knows best!

I find it best that I accept what it does without me asking and give it an occasional "thank you".

It's much easier on my blood pressure this way.  ;)

On start up It's never done it on mine,

Do you reverse into your garage by any chance...?

Err, yes. Doesn't everybody?

I reverse into my garage. Never had the rear wiper sweep the next morning.

Just wish my rear wiper would be keener to do more intermittent wipes when using the rain sensitive front wipers.

The tailgate window gets covered with rain/muck so quickly.

If you engage reverse with the wipers on the rear will wipe. so if you leave it in reverse with the front wipers on and turn the ignition off and on again the rear wiper will wipe

I thought demonstrator Yeti's are the same as normal Yeti's

Mine also does the random wipe on ignition. Factors:

Auto wipers, although usually off

Rear wiper off

Auto rear wiper disabled

Reverse park (always).

It doesn't always do it - it seems to be if the car was last used in wet conditions.

- Same here. And always gear lever in P.

Annoying, but I can live with it.

It's all part of the 'I know best' system that is taking over and deskilling .......it's time to take a stand and give it a good lecture.

I have this on my other car.  Where it's related to fatigue failure of the wiring to the tailgate.  For which my dealer wants £600 to fix.  Bugger him - I can live with it.

Never had that with a rear wiper, almost everything in the car twitches

when I put the ignition on though.

Would it not complete a cycle if you turn the wiper off before its park

position is reached?

I have mused that perhaps the wiper wipes to park itself properly.  There are two park positions that it assumes during use - a 'normal' one at the bottom of the sweep and a slightly elevated one that means the blade reaches "BDC" and returns a cm or two up the screen before parking.  This is to prevent the blade always being parked at the same angle on the screen.  I wonder if this little start-up sweep is to park the blade differently?

I do know it runs when it has been or is raining and reverse is selected.

Like some I have given up working out what it does at other times.

Always reverse into garage each day/night.

Never had rear wiper operate on start up in the mornings, even when car put away wet.

My Superb does it occasionally, very annoying.

Can't pinpoint the factors for it doing it though.

Probably set to Off in the Maxi DOT

Have had the same thing happen on my Yeti. No MaxiDot & No DSG. Could be related to Parking in reverse as I do.

Has one other quirk also from new/day one. It doesn't let me Un-Lock the central locks when the fan is blowing in the 2 highest speeds"6&7"...

Does pulling the wiper arm down for a single sweep, activate the intermittent function and when you reverse in it's still active, including 'rear'?.....I think our Pug does it ......hate all this automation ......let me decide thank you!
