Xenon headlight switching off/on - 2014 Octy RS

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls!

About a month ago a strange thing happened to me. My left xenon head light started to switch off and on by istelf. I noticed this on my way back home, so I turned off the ignition key, moved the light switch from "auto" to "on", but nothing helped. I then opened the bonnet, checked if the wires were all ok, but the headlight was still turning off and on by itself. In the morning, I was considering driving the car to the dealer, but the problem simply disappeared... And the problem never showed up again ever since.

I just wanted to give you guys all a heads up in case you experience this problem as well.

You can see in the following video what I am talking about:

Cheers!

How very strange!

Did it continue to do that whilst the engine was off and the key out?

My colleague had the same issue in the beginning and after a while it simply disappeared.

He had an error message on dash, check right dipped beam or similar. Sometimes the lamp flickered like a stroboscope.

It happened once or twice per month mostly when the dipped beam was switched on.

Never happened again after 20k kms.

It happened to me last year and eventually the ballast went - cost a fortune as it had to be fixed then and there.

Log it with your dealer and email them the video, at some point the ballast or bulb will go :)

Luckily it only happened that time and never again since... Will definitely be keeping my eye on the headlights, that's for sure. :)

It didn't when the engine was off. But as soon as I started the engine again, the issue came back... However, the following day everything was back to normal. Strange, indeed. :)

My 1st Octy, a 2010 mk2 had Zenon. On an inclined slip road I used to regularly get a quick off on of the lights in roughly the same place. I put it down to the road lights affecting the auto sensor.
