Hello folks,

Obtained the HID kit from London Colour/ A&E Trading.

It has taken one half-day (aborted attempt), and today a full day at my local garage to fit.

Bumper off, headlights off, he needed to cut and re-solder some wires, a right pig was the verdict!

They come on with a quick flash, then go dim, then steadily come brighter over maybe 5 seconds; is this normal?

Much brighter than the "Plus 130" H7's, only a brief journey home though.

He does not relish the thought of having to change bulbs again, bumper, lights, wheels off again!  How long do HID last? Should I order a spare pair of HID bulbs?

Thanks

Richard

Perfectly normal, the flash is the igniter lighting the gasses in the bulb and then you have to wait a few seconds for the bulb to warm up.

Exactly why you cannot use them for main beam, because of the delay in getting up to colour temperature.

I have an Octavia with OEM xenon's and a Superb with the London Colour kit fitted.

The OEM set-up on the Octavia gets up to normal light output very quick, say 1-2 seconds.

The London Colour kit takes at least twice as long, I'd guess about 5 seconds. For those 5 seconds the light output is low, steadily increasing and very blue.

Once they are up to temperature then they are almost as bright as the OEM set-up.

Considering the factory fit xenon's were close to £1,000 and the HID kit from London Colour was £26 I guess there are bound to be a few trade-offs!

Is it normal to have to remove the front wheels, bumper and headlights to replace a bulb on a Roomster?

If not then I can't see why he had to do this to fit the HID kit, as long as you can access the bulbs then you can fit the kit.

Wow, that sounds like a mission.

I have to say, I'm confused as to how/why the garage went about removing the bumper/wheels/headlights and soldering etc.

I managed an HID install on Slottys Fabia in the car park of my work place, in about an hour, with some long nose pliers, and a Stanley knife.

I took the bumper off on mine only so I could hide all the modules and wiring

But everything is accessible without doing all this if required

Still can't work out would the garage would need to solder its all plug and play

Only thing I had to cut was the boots on the back of the headlamp and used the after market clips for bulb fixing

DITTO to the above. I would never have fitted mine if i'd had to do all that Richard describes.

Sounds like he made a right job of that.

I can fit em on about 30 mins now ive fitted and removed em a few times.

Not sure what he was soldering either. Abit strange.. The kits are plug and play...
