Fiat 124-Based on new MX5

Featured Replies

I like that, but I'm not sure it has enough differentiation from the Mazda!

Why would anyone choose a Fiat version?

Interested to see the Abarth version.... :-)

I quite like that. Nice to see they have the step auto box shifting the correct way round - like the BMW's and not the Audi's/Volvo's/everyone else. I wonder if it actually is the same as fitted to the BM's?

BMW use the ZF8HP for longitudinal / RWD layouts, (Except M Cars)

The ZF has an Electronic shifter though, not like the conventional shifter in the Fiat.

Because it looks like a cross of F-type and Dodge Viper, while being better looking than the Mazda, and having more power. What's not to like?!

Fiat build quality and the Fiat dealer network.

Mazda don't exactly cover themselves in glory.

No but after owning Alfa and Fiat I know which I'd rather have.

Now I get the panda being an updated version of the 80's panda, and the 500 being a modern take on the original.

But wasn't the 124 the 3-box design that went on to be the basis of the lada riva?

I thought that too. It looks great. not as sharp as the MX5 but still modern with a twist of retro. Might drive even better than the Mazda? I think I would take an Abarth over the MX5 :)

You mean you haven't heard about the new Lada Riva Spyder that's coming out in 2020? :D

Glad you said that, viper came to my head as soon as I saw it.

I think the Abarth version would be quite an interesting drive

I thought that when I had look, but look for the 124 sport spider and you can see they are doing the same as the panda/500 etc.

Personally I think it is better looking than the MX5 on paper, but whether or not this will apply to the real life version.

This is more of a road car, as a turbo lump instead of rev happy NA is a distinct differentiation.

I hope:

1. I can fit in it :-)

2. I have enough money when the Abarth version comes out :-p

Exactly my thoughts.

Skoda CZ have the skills and the Motorsport Heritage etc to now get on with Designing and building a nice rear wheel drive Coupe / Convertible

and also a Small Hot Hatch with AWD that might appeal to current Skoda Customers and attract new ones.

Maybe the VWG have something they had in the pipeline for VW or Audi that Skoda could go into production with.

Doesn't look that bad at all

Nice to see an alternative option on the engine front and one that might be up for some tuning too!

Something as good as the Alfa Romeo TCT or the Jeep Autobox will suit many as well, if that is what is going to be used.

Hopefully the Auto will be an option in the EU.

Thats a looker

I like the look of that 124, more so than the new MX5 which looks a little, how can I put this delicately, 'squinty-eyed'?

Also, the turbo'd engines should add a welcome dose of low end torque too.

I'd stick with the Mazda. Think Fiat have missed a real opportunity here, with the looks and design.

Looks like a Chrysler at the front to me  :x
