Bye Bye Furbie

Featured Replies

right it looks like getting rid of the furbie is a strong possibility now and have been offered a '99' Octavia slxi estate 1.6.

the octy has 68000 miles but looks totally immaculate for the mileage all the toys work and into the deal i am getting 4xnew tyres a cambelt change and headlamp protectors, it was serviced before the car was traded in to the dealership and seems good mechanically.

Can anyone tell me of potential issues with these cars ?

sorry forgot to add it is up for

Well, considering the trouble the furbie has given you, and you can afford to run a costlier/bigger 1.6 Octy, I'd say GO FOR IT!

I'm assuming Rob's is a 1.6 SLXI too, so he may be able to advise too...?

Many thanks

dont forget the fact it might be the driver and not the car.....

Tis true, Rob is somewhat of a demon behind the wheel.

(bows down)

:D

Mine's the Ambiente, so the SLXi is actually a relatively higher spec - whether this does equate to more toys I don't know.

The problems I've had on mine have been teething issues, at 68k I'd imagine these would all be resolved, so it shouldn't give you any problems. Keep an eye on the suspension though, as we did have a 1.6 owner on here who had an apparently unresolvable "pull to the left".

Whole lot of car for not a whole lot of money... :)

Rob.

 Alex. I'm kind of hoping that all the teething issues that would have arisen on my car, have already done so as I'm now at 44K - I guess the turbo is the only serious one that springs to mind - no suspension pun intended

Recommend eibach lowering kit for it next... :D

cheers for the support now i have similar problems as Q as in SWMBO.

what the hell i am going to go for it.

toys wise air con leccy windows central locking trip computer (?) and a lunatic behind the wheel (hopefully):D

rob what kind of performance and mpg do you get out of yours?

any one got any vrs alloys for sale?????

Thanks again

I had a W reg (2000) SLX TDi and that had climate control as opposed to air con.

x4 electric windows

central locking

twin front and side airbags

trip computer

alloy wheels

single cd player (crap!)

So it looks like the only thing the SLX hasn't got over the Ambiente is the CD and multichanger. Which I replaced anyway...doh!

Performance - 0-60 not a clue, top speed 121mph on GPS on a straight stretch of track. With a slight downhill slope... :D

Economy - On motorways I've had 45mpg, if I take it easy around town around 35mpg. So normally I get about 30mpg. ;)

Oh, and you can fit an under-counter fridge in the boot without dropping the rear seats... :D

Rob.

Was the SLXi trim available with the 1.6 engine?

If I recall correctly the SLXi had the 1.8 20v, 2.0 and TDI (110 bhp) engines.

The 1.6 was in the GLXi.

Freakcrab the pedant.

:-)

Initially the 1.6 wasn't available with SLX trim, but it was introduced at a later date...

At launch the 1.6 LX was the 75bhp unit, the GLX the 102bhp unit. I'd imagine the SLX will be the 102bhp unit.

Rob.

Has it got leather seats, fab?

Oh, and you can fit an under-counter fridge in the boot without dropping the rear seats... :D

Rob.

... you've a thing about fridges in the boot, don't you mate!:p

I just like fridges in general...marvellous things... :)

I did have to remove the little fridge to get the big fridge in though, but I still don't think that's bad going... :D

Rob.

and you give them away free as well!

very chilled out:D

Well, it was more of a cost-saving exercise - was no good for storing anything in, as the cats could open it which would cause the contents to spoil/high electricity usage/high compressor wear. And I wasn't going to pay for eco-friendly disposal... :D

no leather i am afraid but thinking about a chest freezer for the boot:D

Alex - You could install a microwave oven, fed off the battery and keep then you could cook from frozen, in the comfort of your estate.

PS: you could have used my 170A welding cable to power the oven, and I've taken it back.. :(

maybe a chemical toilet as well!:D

70A cable would be more than enough for powering a Cat E microwave though... :D

Rob.

But where would the kitchen sink go?

Across the back of the rear seats.

Rob.

Let's put a poll into Skoda UK for a Octy camper van, or even an Octy winnebago

Niki! There's your assignment for tomorrow! :)

SLX trim changed about oct 1999 a single cd was included from this date, as was the 2.0 8v and 150bhp 1.8T 20v petrol with full leather trim. The 1.8 20v non turbo was also dropped, replaced by the 2.0 8v unit. Electric Sun roof was omitted initially with the inclusion of climate control.
