Uniroyal RainSport 3 - much cheapness

Featured Replies

Read that they've got particularly soft side walls and wear quite quickly.

I've owned both of those and tbh there's very little between them. The Goodyears will be hopeless in snow, if you don't have a dedicated set of winters, though.

RS3s are one of the best vfm tyres going. As said, a bit soft, but awesome grip in most conditions.

Had RS3 on the front of my vRS. Lasted about 18K miles with mostly A and B road driving.

Good enough in the dry and gave plenty of confidence in the wet.

I've put another set on recently.

VFM I don't think you can go wrong. True there are better tyres but you can be looking at up to double the price of the RS3.

Highly recommend these. I don't know why they are so cheap. I had them in 17's on my Saab 93 and they were about £70 a corner..

When the vRS is needing new boots I will definitely be using these. Camskills service is very good, always use them for new tyres and the prices are almost always cheaper than a garage even factoring delivery and fitting etc.

Tbh, the 18" size tyres are actually very reasonable for the vRS and cheaper than all my previous cars using 17".

Have a full set on the VRS and am happy with them. Just increased the psi to counter the softer sidewall. They do appear to be wearing a little quicker than the previous Michelins, but as they're that much cheaper it balances out. Good in the dry and inspire confidence in the wet.

I'll second the above, they are fantastic tyres in wet and dry conditions, just the wear is a bit of an issue!

I also have 16" steel winter wheels with Continental WinterContact TS850 tyres on them. Using these too, means the Uniroyal's (RS 2's at present) last long enough. Need two RS 2's replaced now so will get the RS 3's and get them fitted while the winter wheels are on.

I bought a pair of rainsport 3s for the my vrs yesterday (front). Interested to see what they're like long term. My maxis MAZ1s got destroyed by potholes by the wonderful roads of Sheffield.

Ive fitted a pair to the front of my vrs today, they seem good value for money, hopefully they are as good in the wet as people say as the roads i drive down to work & back are shocking when its been raining heavily. Weird looking tread pattern on them.  :D

Had the RS3's on my previous car, a Saab 9-3 estate. Great grip in all weathers but they didn't last very long (4 wheel alignment done as well at time of fitting), I got around16k out of the fronts.

Since getting the VRS I put 2 Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front. They've currently done 22k and have been given some stick, I reckon they've got another 5k left in them as well! They will be replaced by 2 new Goodyears for definite,

Appreciate that's comparing the tyres across 2 very different cars but a relative had a similar experience with the RS3's on a Golf GTi.

Happy to report that these are very good in the wet,im very impressed.

I love them. Got them on both my octavia and my celica. X tra load versions on the lardy octavia and find the side walls fine. Non xtra load on the celica and you can really feel them flexing. Excellent grip in all weather and lasting well so far.

I've got a set of 17" Monzas for winter wheels and am thinking about fitting four of these to that set. I've found the right sizes but (stupid question alert) I'm stumped by the differences between the four in that size shown on Camskill

http://www.camskill.co.uk/m54b2829s16p0/Car_Tyres_-_MPV_Tyres_-_People_Carrier_Tyres_-_17_inch_Uniroyal_Tyres_Car_Uniroyal_RainSport3_Uniroyal_Rain_Sport_3_-_R17_inch_-_225_45_17_225_45R17

Can anyone shed any light on the difference between the four types listed?

They are different speed ratings V & Y and different load ratings standard and XL (stronger sidewalls)

What speed rating do you need? V is up to 149mph and Y is up to 186mph .

Do you want less flex? If so go for XL.

FR means that the tyre has a raised rubber bead running along the outside edge of the rim that offers damage protection.

Thanks Millser. I think I'll be ordering four once they're back open.

Ive had RS3 on for a few months, there really good, seen as we have 10 months of rain a year, Im glad i didn't get winter tyres as the temp has been 9 -12c lol. I think i will be sticking to these. I do find them a little noisy, but the grip in wet is fanatic.

Just purchased a pair of these for the car at £67 a corner (205/45/17) with free delivery from oponeo, arrived within 2 days. Never used but heard plenty about these so I guess I'll find out when the winter decides to have a break. I was more drawn to the fuel and water ratings they were claiming the tyres do. Think it was C for fuel and A for wetness.
