VW Emissions Scandal Thread V2

And market  diesels  under the Skoda  brand instead. Skoda have not been sold in America as yet but the Kandiaq apparently will be sold in America, probably the forerunner of other Skoda models?

Wouldn't they be petrol powered?.

If people were really smart they'd ban big cities. They're the cause of all these problems.

Could be but  could also a facesaving ploy  by V A G to get diesels back into America,  and they will presumably have to set up a new network of dealers to distance themselves from the scandal they are involved in under the V W banner?. Also by the time the Kardiaq is ready, there may well be more petrol engines to  choose from?. Everything is conjecture  at this stage

Until car manufacturers know just how tough the Euro7 emissions are going to be to be achieved there looks to be little planning to produce cars with diesel engine in European or North America beyond the short term and the focus will be on petrol, hybrid-electric/petrol and pure electric.

But what is needed is a 'real world' Euro 7 test as even now we know that whilst the diesel Euro 6 with SCR meets the test spec it's still worse in the real world.  I would much prefer an honest real world spec that maybe looks worse than say the Euro 6 but could be relied upon in all circumstances, conditions of road and weather.

Absolutely.

As long as the emissions of the particularly dangerous outputs ie NOX and PMs, are significantly improving between each generation of engines we should be happy with that progress.  Instead of a simple map of emissions at a standard "lab" Normal Temperature and Pressure let us hope that the new real world road test deals with the testing properly to what these cars actually pollute.  If it is a real reduction from 200 mg/Km of NOX to say 150 then that would be a very good thing and the 80 mg/Km per level that was a false level to real world use can be consigned to the past and a lesson learned.  We must take account of what the effect is on pollution in these urban areas where the thousand of premature deaths are occurring and combine the new emission standards with restrictions of access of certain cars to certain urban areas and certain times seems needed in conjunction with the improved emissions of new cars.

I am disappointed that VAG did not take the Renault route of doing something sooner to improve their cars emission as Renault did at the start of this year.....

Renault Will Offer Emissions Fix for Nearly 700,000 Cars After Office Raid

Renault will also recall 15,800 Captur SUVs to repair emissions systems.Renault, Ford and Mercedes-Benz have come under scrutiny by the French government for Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions higher than legal limits, French newspaper Les Echos reported last week. The new Captur SUV along with the Espace were cited for polluting well above legal limits.   While Renault maintains that it isn't using a defeat device like Volkswagen did, it will recall 15,800 diesel engined Capturs to fix its emission control systems. It will also offer a voluntary software patch on 700,000 diesel powered cars to reduce NOx emissions. The company said the total number of cars that will need the software update will likely be lower than the 700,000 cars it has produced with Euro 6 engines.  The raid of its offices sent its stock prices tumbling last week, but Renault said it believed the raids were "linked to the consequences of the Volkswagen rigged-engines affair," in a statement.  Even if there was no wrong doing on Renault's part, it's clear that both government officials and investors are fairly spooked in the wake of the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal. More fallout like this is likely as more organizations investigate automakers.

Surprised no-one has posted this yet:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/sep/19/many-car-brands-emit-more-pollution-than-volkswagen-report-finds

A year on from the “Dieselgate” scandal that engulfed Volkswagen, damning new research reveals that all major diesel car brands, including Fiat, Vauxhall and Suzuki, are selling models that emit far higher levels of pollution than the shamed German carmaker.

(Utterly not surprised by the article itself, though.)

Next thing you know someone will be pointing out that hybrid cars actually get **** MPG in real life because no one drives for only 3miles after fully charging the battery every time, except inside a lab. [Daily-Mail-sad-face]

Braunschweig Regional Court " has added extra staff and storage space to handle a flood of 1400 investor lawsuits  against VW seeking damages worth £7bn.

On Monday alone 750 lawsuits arrived from a single law office as a possible one-year deadline to file approached "

& as hard as the Volkswagen Group have tried to always have it in the media as the VW Emissions scandal and keep Audi & Porsche from being mentioned

it has not worked.

Audi are as much part of the scandal as VW, Skoda & Seat.

Its nice to talk and the US authorities want the truth from Audi employees and VW Employees even Porsche Employees as they all work for the same company really.

How on earth did a picture of a woman holding up a bra make it into this thread!?

:D

All going t!t5 up for the VW Group and some of the Senior & Ex Senior management need something like that to cover there arses.

Possibly they used them as blinkers or ear muffs since they seemingly had never seen or heard anything about defeat devices.

Soap on a rope now available to any senior member of VW flying into the USA just incase they are arrested on arrival.

At present rate VAG will be soon worth half if what it was 12/15 months ago.

It was a Huge Fraud was it not as an engineer pleads guilty to taking part in the fraud.  No huge mistake.

That huge mistake seems to have been attempting to cover up the fraud.

His english is really quite good when he wants to give statements in english.

Odd he chooses to reply in German and need a translater with the BBC questions.

Sounds like a nice gesture.

The UK's last Secretary of State for Transport is now a Lord and also the Chairman of the Conservative & Unionist Party so if he along with the New Transport Minister Chris Grayling MP (He was before this job the Secretary of State for Justice after all)

and the DfT get their backsides in action VW could be encouraged to get on and make a very similar gesture in the UK or the UK Government could get on with the legal actions.

If they do it for one that represents a precedent I would have thought and surely they couldn't deny others so affected.

Australia is obviously not in Europe / EU and has a Government & Government Agencies that do not just assume the position because of being scared to hold the VW Group responsible for 'Mistakes'.

European Governments are scared of the power of the Car Manufacturers and also that they have so much public money invested in the Car Manufacturers.

An update on the claims against the Volkswagen Group

We write to update you about the recent developments in this case.

Over the past few months owners of 2.0l vehicles have been contacted by their local dealerships in order to have their vehicles repaired. We understand that the German regulator recently approved the fixes to be applied to 1.2l engines and expect that owners of these vehicles will also now begin to be contacted to book their vehicle in for repair. The fixes to be applied to the 1.6l engines are yet to be approved. Volkswagen has pledged to repair all EU vehicles affected by this scandal by autumn 2017, almost a year later than they originally planned. To date, neither the German regulator nor Volkswagen has released any information as to exactly how the fixes will work.

The decision as to whether to have the fix applied to your vehicle is ultimately for you to make. Having your vehicle repaired will not prevent you from being able to bring a claim for compensation. Please also bear in mind that it will not be possible to claim for any losses arising from increased fuel consumption or performance related losses if you do not have the fix applied as these losses will only begin to arise (if at all) once the vehicle has been repaired. Further, the other side may also argue that you have failed to take all reasonable steps to minimise your losses if you decide against having the fix applied to your vehicle.

Volkswagen is continuing to deny that the software fitted to vehicles sold in the UK was illegal under the applicable law. They maintain that they will be able to repair the affected vehicles in the UK and so are refusing to make any compensation payments.  This is in spite of the apologies made in the days and weeks following the emergence of the scandal and despite increasing pressure to pay compensation being applied upon them by EU and UK parliamentary bodies.

In the US, there have been fresh allegations made against Bosch suggesting that they worked with Volkswagen to cover up the scandal. These allegations have been strongly denied by Bosch’s lawyers.

We remain committed to achieving a resolution to this dispute on behalf of those affected and in doing so are actively pursuing defined categories of claims by way of test cases. We have already contacted those owners who qualify to be a test case at the moment.

Finally, you are receiving this email as you have previously registered your interest with us. Please let us know if you no longer wish to receive these updates. "
