So does one  ditch buying  diesels or wait  for the various  authorities to wake up?

Good question, I don't have much time to wait so ditching is my preferred option but I am checking out options posted here by helpful members.

If people were really smart they'd ban big cities. They're the cause of all these problems.

I must confess I am thinking of ditching VAG products for several reasons, and preferring a UK manufacturer. VAG have pee'd me off  with their attitudes,  plus their products are suspect, including apparently the D S G box. As my Superb has only done 23500 miles (unchanged software ) I don't need to  change soon but as our beloved London  Mayor, plus Ealing Council are about the clobber diesel owners,  the thought is always in my mind.

I have had few Hmmmms from people when I said I was buying this Yeti regarding DSG, as said above 'check the DSG oil has been changed'  so it's easy to upset them I assume if fluid changes are lax ?

Not all bad, the Fabia 1.2tsi I have had for 2.5 years now is a lovely car just works properly.

As for the clobbering Diesel owners the Bristol  busses here  kick out tons of **** on a daily basis and a lot of time are empty and subsidized but no, lets blame it on car owners

Extra ranting

Totally insane..

They carried out something called a 'service campaign 97CU-W onboard supply control unit' on the Fabia last week when it had a 20K service, no idea what they did.

Spelling for gods sake!

So now that the EU Commission knows we will see what they do about it.

Not that much probably for a year or 3 as usual.

We will see what the EU Commission does if manufacturers are taking the pith with the 'Derogation Rule' and cars built before the 1st June 2018 being allowed to be First Registered from September 2018-September 2019.

Just how many are stockpiled and are not WLTP approved but will be appearing in the UK and getting a 68 plate.

The rule is supposed to be only up to 10% of those registered in 2017.

As it is the WLTP figures that customers will look at have nothing to do with anyone buying that car then putting passengers in the seats, luggage in the boot, roof bars on the roof and bikes or bags / cases, a caravan or trailer on the back after fitting a tow bar that was not on from the factory, or putting a spare wheel in that was not standard.

So it is the test system the EU allowed to be introduced and will be further tweaked and allow kidology.

Some will produce the Co2 g/ km figures when using the cars, and get the fuel economy and others will not, just as now.

Wow It goes on and on ! I have emailed Skoda dealer expressing no further interest in purchasing their Diesel products and cited this thread and it's many links to back up my decision. Finance cancelled (without penalty) and will be collecting my full 500 pound deposit on saturday, Very dissapointing.

Don’t forget this thread is based on the euro5 scam.

The current new ones using AdBlue are a different matter entirely and likely to be acceptable in most cities for some time because of their considerably lower NOx emissions.

The individual economic argument still applies though.

'Scam' and 'likely' are not 2 words I would like to see in any purchase, imagine if I had to inquire about who made and regulated the motor in a washing machine for example.

I'm totally put off.

Thanks for the info

Euro6  emissions standard would seem to make diesel  a better choice  for Authorities around the world as  both NOx AND  Co2 are much reduced over petrol engines. I was told that in areas where diesel has been banned or prejudiced, Co2 levels have increased  so we may well not see the demise of " new "  diesels after all?.

Bosch promise a significant breakthrough in their SCR system yet to go into production at this stage.  If so, as they claim, it will meet further strictures for quite some time.  My beef is with the lifespan of the EGR cooler/valve and DPF systems which never get a mention.

Use them for a few days doing only a few miles a day and even the latest ones with AdBlue can have a blocked DPF

We will soon see if the petrols with GPF's are any good.

I won't be holding my breath, anything that collects pollutants then messes around with the engine ignition/injection mapping to make the exhaust gases hot enough to burn off the pollutants is going to have more failure modes and hence be less reliable IMHO.

Tony R,

Who told you that the Head of VW?

Which areas where diesels have been banned or prejudiced has this happened in?

I am under the impression various  places  have banned  " older " diesels, Paris, Berlin, Athens or are about to, plus London is about to  and some local authorities  will charge higher parking permits for diesels, without any differentiation apparently.

I was asking about where it is that the Co2 have increased where older diesels have been banned or prejudiced,  and who told you that?

Is this in the likes of Paris, Berlin, Athens & is this because people have changed to using petrols, newer diesels and electric vehicles or alternative transport, public, bike etc?

Oh it takes a far more genned up person than I to answer your question, but I doubt the use of electric vehicles is increasing Co2 levels?

“What is also worrying for the industry is that the publication of re-homologated models/versions is not progressing as quickly as expected. It has taken 11 months for 20% of existing model/versions in the market to be re-homologated and published, meaning the industry could face a backlog of vehicles that cannot be registered if it isn’t completed by 31 August.”

Audi (and possibly VW too)  getting round the problem of no WLTP vehicles by stockpiling and somehow working the system post September. Prereg bonanza?
